I don't go to church but we are to live a life of Christ outside the church. I have participated in communion two times at my local church across the street and another time at another. I ended up fine because God knows I truly am for him and follow him and have very strong desires for him so I don't know what happen to unbelievers that partake in communion but I know nothing happens to us true believers in Christ. Sad to say right now because it feels like God is telling me even Christians that been in church for years shouldn't even take part in communion although it seems they should but many in church aren't following the right path of God and want things their way and not the true way of God. I beg the Lord to take me me higher and consecrate me. I want to be everything God ever wants me to be.

Perfect analogy! When I see non-believers partake, I'm scared for them. No, my pastor doesn't allow it, per say, but when I see the party on Saturday, saved on Sunday people, many still hung over from the night before, coming to the alter to take communion, I shake my head in shame for them...

Very good teaching. The Lord's Supper is a deep spiritual event in which true Christians share in some way in the body and blood of Christ. Non-believers shouldn't take part. That said, it is good for us to want non-believers to join us at church services (as we find in 1 Cor 14:23-25). And we shouldn't want them to feel unnecessarily uncomfortable when they are with us. So I think it is good for Christian leaders to say something like this: 'We are about to eat the Lord's Supper. This is something that only Christians should take part in. So if there are any non-Christians present, please don't eat the bread and wine. But please don't feel any embarrassment about not doing this. And we hope that before long you will give your life to Jesus and you will be able to join us in this. But please don't take part at the present time.'

I was a Jehovah's witness and I was a believer most people in the kingdom hall was baptized their beliefs is not to partake in the Passover but to just pass it around only the anointing who are the one hundred and forty four thousands could partake and they read this same scriptures you read . Now I am no longer a jws I am a believer of Jesus Christ and I keep the Passover and partake.

It is not expressly stated how often we are to do it and it can be up to individual churches to decide. Some churches do it weekly, some monthly and some more than that. I personally belive we should do it every time we gather, but my church does it monthly and I do not fight with anybody over it.

I think there are clues in the New Testament that suggest that early Christians typically did this at least once a week. Firstly, in 1 Cor 11:20 Paul says: 'When you come together, then, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper.' He must mean that when they gather to eat the Supper, their conduct is so poor that it is as if they are not really eating the Supper at all. But his words most naturally imply too that the typical gatherings of the Corinthian Christians would involve eating the Supper. Reading between the lines, then, it is probable that when the Corinthians came together as a church, they always, or at least usually, ate the Supper. And it seems very doubtful that they met less than once a week. And secondly, Acts 2:46; 20:7 also most naturally seem to suggest that it was a weekly thing, or even more than that, in the early church.

@@limpingllama57 I think part of the reason why the Lord's Supper is eaten less often than it should be is because many Christians misunderstand it. Many see it simply as a symbolic thing, a way of remembering the cross of Christ. So they think that if it is eaten too often, people will become too familiar with it and it will lose its impact on us. The way I read 1 Cor 10-11, however, is that the Lord's Supper is a much deeper spiritual thing than just an outward symbol. I'm really not sure exactly how to define it, and I am sure that Catholics go too far with their idea of transsubstantiation, and that Lutherans go too far with their idea of consubstantiation. But I think God is at work in it in some profound way in the lives of believers. I think it is much more than just a symbolic remembrance.

What about taking the Lord's supper before baptism? Can you just be born again to partake or must you also be baptised?

The prerequisites for both things are faith in Christ for salvation, so you can be an unbaptised believer and take communion, but the nature of baptism is a sign of faith in Christ and is something you should do as quickly as possible upon conversion, so you really shouldn't be doing communion for an extended period of time being unbaptised. This is why many churches only offer communion to baptised believers, because it is implied that you are baptised very soon after salvation.

The answer is simple, accept what God did for us by offering his only son to pay for our sins. Jesus was a gift take it or leave it. Love God and strive to obey him, honor him and above all love him. In doing so you honor yourself and others and the rest will fall in line. Look more for what you have in common with others than nit picking over details and trivial differences.

In the New Testament we consistently find that new Christians are baptised immediately upon coming to faith. For example, in Acts 9:10-18 we find Paul being baptised on the day he is saved. And in Acts 10:44-48 we find Cornelius and his family and friends being baptised on the same day. In fact, in Acts we never find any evidence that any Christian was baptised any later than the day they came to faith. In the Bible, Christian water baptism is directed first and foremost towards the person being baptised. In Acts there never seems to be an attempt to delay it so that others can witness it. This is an unbiblical tradition.

If you are born again you are already Baptistized by the spirit. The physical baptism is a symbol of the actual baptism. Duncaning in water does not save you. It is a symbol that you are saved.

I once had a few non-believer nonnative speaker of English friends come to church with me. As they couldn’t quite fully understand the meaning behind the Lord’s supper and they came from a very communal culture where standing out is something to avoid, they ended up taking the supper with everyone even though I did my best to explain it. I often wonder if I should have been more emphatic about them not taking the supper, but at the time, I didn’t want to make them feel more uncomfortable than they already were in a completely foreign environment.

That's a tough one - as a young atheist I was told I had to sit alone while everyone else did this ceremony, and I felt insulted and hostile towards Christianity as a result. Obviously nobody bothered to explain why, and that was the real error, but it gave Satan 50 years of my life. I think erring of the side of being gentle was correct, and hopefully you had a chance to explain the ceremony later.

What happens if you partake and you didn't know the real meaning behind the Lord's supper. When, I was younger, I would be taken to church with a family member. In August, this year, I've only really gotten to know Jesus. I feel ashamed. Do I ask for forgiveness? Or am I in trouble? Thank you.

When you become a Christian, all your previous sins are forgiven. You don't need to try to think of each sin that you have committed to repent of it. That said, if you remember a certain sin that you feel ashamed of, it doesn't hurt to tell the Lord that you feel shame and to apologise specifically for it. But we do need to let go of sins. God doesn't want us to continue to feel guilty.

My exact situation too, but my conversion was 51 years ago (I am 77). I was told that night that God had separated himself from my sins "as far as the east is from the west". (Ps 103:12). In my ignorance of scripture at the time, this meant nothing. However since then when I read that psalm, those words leap off the page, and they cover your and my problem precisely, my friend.

My church offer unbelievers to accept Lord Jesus and if they choose to do they will recite the sinner’s prayers and accept Jesus into their lives. Once they do that they are welcome to take communion.

One point I may add is that the disciples were described by Jesus as "faithless" both before and after they had the last supper, and they were truly saved by virtue of receiving the faith to believe by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost as is pointed to in Acts 11:17, which would be well after the Last Supper with Jesus. Just a note, these were men who God was sanctifying, and called by God, their salvation already assured except for Judas. Maybe this is why he betrayed him after the supper. It is no light subject any way you view it

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them. 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? 2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? 3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of Menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence. 4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? 5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination? 7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here? 8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? 9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? 10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I'm confident you can help. I'm not disagreeing with Pastor John's point on communion and this is a great channel, but these verses are being used somewhat out of context. The 1 Corinthians 10 quote is being used to make a valid point but the context Paul is writing about is somewhat different. Please, please read 1 Corinthians with a couple of good commentaries rather than building your response to questions like these on 'soundbite verses'.

But, doesn't he say what the unworthy manner is exactly? He says "therefore" which refers back to the previous section in verses 20-22. Then he wraps it up referring to the same unworthy manner in verses 33-34. The unworthy manner that he is talking about is not being sinful or being a believer or not. It just doesn't say that unless I pluck that verse out of the context. Thoughts anyone? I'm happy to be mistaken.
