My favorite part of pilates is how it really calls out where you have weakness instead of working out and building up to an injury

I recently began Pilates and have been searching for a video on the benefits of it for added encouragement. I was disappointed so far but your video was so honest, realistic, and so spot on. Absolutely refreshing and encouraging. Thank you for all the info you included in such a candid way without over exaggerating the results/benefits. You’re amazing and I wish you the best with your RA and success in your classes! You go girl! 🙌

Pilates just makes everything better: my lifting sessions, yoga, the way I walk, and when I used to dance. I had more power when I danced, and better engagement when I workout, as I don't "dump" on injured limbs as much. Would you talk about RA and pilates sometime? How it supports your well-being, how you perform Pilates during a flare, pretty much anything you would like to share? People assume this only affects the elderly, and this could add to a wider conversation on what exercising for wellness might look like as well.
@MargaretElizabethLLC2 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest, I really covered just about as much as I had on doing Pilates with my RA, I'm not sure I really have that much more to say or that I could do a dedicated video on it. But maybe in the future I will have more to say!

Just watched your 30 day results, 90 day results, and now this. It's SO refreshing and so desperately needed to see a fitness influencer, especially as a woman catering to other women (not that you exclude other genders at all), NOT be obsessed about changing the way your body looks or losing weight. So much of the fitness sphere is dominated by influencers with body dysmorphia and disordered eating and people who didn't go to school for health or fitness, and it's very frustrating!! I have found that only two forms of exercise keep me consistent, Pilates and rock climbing (bouldering in specific). As much as I love bouldering, it is so high-impact and dangerous and it can be really painful. Pilates has been a safe space that still challenges me, but allows me to do things at my own pace without the risk of falling off a 15' wall :') I know it's so beneficial for flexibility, core strength, and balance. Pilates makes me feel like a graceful ballerina without the messed up toes, haha. Thank you for putting these videos up and sharing your journey. It is much appreciated!

After surviving cancer and having my miracle baby boy my body is not something I want to punish anymore. Pilates has kept me feeling better and almost eradicated back pain. I have lost weight doing Pilates- mostly because I have more energy and feel better overall so I’m more likely to cook at home or do other healthy things in my life. Thank you for being you!!!

I've been thinking that I "should" do resistance training at a gym or fitness center, but I'm afraid of exposing myself to viruses. Somehow, I've convinced myself that pilates (yoga, qigong, walking/hiking etc) is "not enough" .. I also swim 3 times a week. I think I may be too hard on myself. At 65 I'm probably more active and fit than 95% of women my age. I'll stick with what I have been doing and now the pilates... at least that is what I'm trying to convince myself to do :-)

OMG Margaret the first words out of your mouth were "I am not going to talk about weight loss." so resignation with me. When I text my friend Tuesday that I didn't want to do the cardio workout with the fitness trainer that I was following since the beginning of May and I wanted to do my magic ring with you and be barefoot she suggested I do it. I felt guilty for not staying with her program but I felt guilty for not using the magic ring I invested in and at 65 years old with Arthritic feet I don't need to kill myself with cardio and don't have the money or the space to keep upping my weights. I just posted on one of my fitness groups that I think the best workout is one I will stick with. I will most likely do Pilates 5 days a week yardwork 5 days a week one live with the trainer I follow and yoga or foam rolling on Sunday's plus the usual laundry and housework and if anybody has a problem with what I do then they can train me for free.

That’s a lot! Very active lifestyle - nothing to justify. the healthiest and longest living people on the planet live in the blue zones- they don’t go to gyms and do much structured exercise, they keep active tending to crops, gardening, walking, socialising and achieve higher levels of NEAT through their environments alone than people who just regularly exercise.

I've read a lot recently about how resistance training is important for aging bodies. I'm in my 40s and I love Pilates (also love weights but Pilates is my #1). Can mat Pilates be considered a form of resistance training? I don't have a reformer and classes are too $$$.
@MargaretElizabethLLC2 жыл бұрын
Yes!! Mat Pilates is definitely a form of resistance training - in the case of mat you're using your body weight as resistance or whatever accessory you are using. And Pilates will be something that will only continue to help you as you age!!

Hi so your tiktok came up in my fyp and I got super interested in trying pilates and I know exercising isn't just about losing weight but for a beginner would it be a good way to start for belly fat?
@MargaretElizabethLLC2 жыл бұрын
I’m glad I sparked your interest!! If you’re a beginner to exercising I think just increasing your overall activity can help in weight loss - pilates can help you strengthen your core, which is essentially everything that isn’t your arms and legs. Could it help you lose belly fat? Maybe. It depends on a lot of things and it would be unrealistic of me to give you a definitive answer because I don’t know you and your goals personally!
