Wow, you've certainly been through a lot this month. I am so sorry to hear about your loss, we're a tight community and you have ALL our support. Took a month off drinking earlier this year and I felt awesome, ended up sleeping much better, but never lost any weight. That being said I wonder how things would be if I consciously took the time to think about how I was feeling about the health effects in the moment while I was still drinking.

Thank you for tackling a difficult subject, very easy to set the wheels in motion and spiral out of control. Ultimately homebrewing is the pursuit of creating amazing beers, learning and enjoying. That doesn't mean we have to drink the stuff everyday - made me reconsider my own intake, so thank you for that. Keep up the good work.

Thank you! It absolutely was, became a bit of a test of will power there and I’m glad I managed to curb it, I can see why people might give in though! Also completely agree there, I love the things I brew, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love a nice macro brew also!

I have been drinking perhaps a bit less than a pint per day for the last year. During the working days I drink usually some weak gruit ale that I have brewed or weak ale you can get in the shops here in Sweden (Folköl), and on the weekend I enjoy some stronger ale. I drink because I crave it similarly to milk in that they are both something between food and a beverage, both quenching thirst and sating hunger. I have rarely drank more than 2 in a day and if so its probably the weekend, I agree that it is very hard to limit yourself, it takes an iron will sometimes or simply keeping busy in another way. I cant say that I have felt any difference in my mood, energy or skin quality but of course its hard to say when its over a long time. Something interesting that I have noted for myself is that I have become a healthier weight for my age and height and also more muscular. I think this is because I have a rather physical job and lifestyle and though I typically eat good and varied food I am bad at eating enough! Probably I have been in a calorie deficit for some time with the Christmas season probably being my only saving grace! I wonder if drinking the ale every day has helped fill that deficit slightly, or perhaps it has helped spur my appetite? Just my two cents anyway, always be careful with alcohol, its a slippery slope.

That's really interesting thanks for your comment! I wonder if because weak ale is lighter it doesnt have the same effect as stronger 5%+ beers do!

First of all sorry for your lost. That's a very important message to all homebrewers. It's hard to not drink when you have pretty decent amount of fresh beer in your tap. Raising a glass for you here in Brazil.

First off, sorry for your loss, and I am glad COVID did not knock you down too hard. I almost skipped this one as a bit click-baity, but I am glad I watched. I surprised how often you are not drinking a homebrew. I can really get in trouble with "sampling" homebrews where I try a 12 oz of this one, 12 oz of that one, and crack open a bottle of that one. I also really enjoy hitting local breweries and pubs to try out new beers. Well, keep up the good work!
@NikitaVorontsov2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! Glad you did! To be honest it’s more from a perspective of constantly having things either on the go or conditioning so there’s a fine line where I can actually drink them properly! Instead I just end up bottling them up in existing bottles from macro beers I’ve saved up :P
2 жыл бұрын
Having homebrew on tap brings the possibility of a smaller cup that you can't have with commercial beer. I always have one tap of sub-5 % beer normally in a range from 3-4%. But I somehow limit myself to 1l a day, if I have anything else over 4% that day. Sorry for your loss.
@NikitaVorontsov2 жыл бұрын
That’s a very good point too! Most of the cups I have for drinking homebrew, while fancy looking, are around 300-350ml each, which after allowing for headspace is a fairly small glass which helps not overindulge! Thank you

Funny I have had 1+ pints every day for the last 6 months as I love my beer, now I am not trashed every night but in those 6 months I would say there were probably 5-6 days where I was sick that I didn't have any. As for tolerance drinking 1-2 every day will increase your tolerance, I can drink about 5-6 6+% beers before I get wavy. I haven't noticed any skin changes personally.

My wife started buying me beer a year after my mum died. Which I feel spiralled out of control some points with the I’ll have another one. The mad thing is though she says she actually prefers me after a drink because I chill out (lethargy sets in) whereas when I’m not drinking I’m constantly on the go and if I’ve got nothing to do I find my mind races and I create issues and problems. Which can lean me to getting angry at times. Obviously a mental health problem there that needs dealing with. I will say though because drinking has made me aware of this problem I’m able to cope with it better now because I never new I had that issue before. So drinking for me, has caused me to reflected upon myself and the person I am, or at least me slowed me and my mind down enough, so that I can observe who I am and address my issues. Sorry about your dad.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, I also lost my dad around Easter and found myself wanting a drink each day more to take the edge off than a social experiment. Noticed the same things as you, lethargy, skin breaking out and while not gaining weight just feeling a bit more ‘flabby’. Tolerance, absolutely, 4-5 beers in the pub and going home feeling totally fine is a strange thing.
@NikitaVorontsov2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Sorry for your loss also! It's interesting as I feel like I went slightly the opposite way of just not wanting to drink at all after that, was a very bizarre sensation that probably helped slightly after a months of drinking. Yeah exactly! The feeling flabby was very bizarre, just more...puffy I guess?

Oтличное видео братан! I've been drinking half a pint (0.3 l) of beer every single day for the last year or so. On some days it was a whole pint (0.5l). I've never noticed anything wrong - no hangovers, no lethargic feeling, nothing. I've gained a few kilograms, but I don't think beer was the main reason. So I think it's ok to drink daily, only if you can limit yourself to a pint a day. Cheers!

I think that's the exact issue is it's easy to have more than one beer, but only after you've already had one. It's like a gateway

Thank you! It’s funny because I think you put your video up just as i had started this one which was a funny coincidence! Yeah without alcohol could be a potential one, with maybe just having Alex sit in for the tastings while I watch eagerly! Hey mate, firstly sorry about the father figure, that sucks big time. On a brighter note, loved the little cuts of different clips, added a bit of fun! As an experiment could try how you feel 1 week of having heavy pints (8%+) vs a week of light pints (3% and less) ABV. I feel like from personal experience and your vid that the week of heavier drinks will leave you wanting more, in a bad way. Again another great vid!
@NikitaVorontsov2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed! Tried adding in random clips to make it more exciting than just talking head format! That's an interesting experiment actually! You're probably right in that heavier pints will definitely leave you craving much more just by virtue of consuming more alcohol. It would probably also suck from a pub perspective where if you just want to enjoy yourself but drink a few pints while you're doing it, then drinking a few Leffe's probably wouldn't what you need!

Dude 80% of those beers was commercial. Where’s the 3 batches of Homebrew going that you brewed in that time. Is the D&D group coming over and smashing a keg with you?
@NikitaVorontsov2 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, a lot of the bottles I had were from homebrew batches that I bottle in commercial bottles I get from friends. Otherwise yeah, multiple batches I do end up giving away very heavy handed-ly in bottles to anyone who gives empties in return!

I hate seeing people go through this kind of 30 day challenge. It always hurts. I liked the video to show my support for you, but I'm worried for you. I know you're grown man and can handle yourself, but seriously, I've lost people to the drink, there is a reason alcoholics become alcoholics. not all of them are drowning out issues. many of them just have built a higher tolerance to the point where they don't know where the line is between sober and raging drunk. And I don't want one of the better small content creators I've had the pleasure of watching to accidentally serious hurt himself. It's bad enough you lost your dad. I don't think any of us, or your remaining family want to lose you.
@NikitaVorontsov2 жыл бұрын
Totally get your point and that's sweet of you to worry. I'm glad that I have a strong enough will to be able to stop and took a good 2-3 week break after this of no drinking at all which has curbed any cravings entirely and was a good break :)
@asimovstarling88062 жыл бұрын
@@NikitaVorontsov I'm glad you do as well. The possibility that I might become an alcoholic is part of why I don't drink often and is also part of why I worry about others on these kinds of challenges. I can handle 3 liters of vodka in 15 minutes without a buzz. And I know that because I actually tried it. no buzz at all. My tolerance is high enough that If I try to find that line I might accidentally cross it without knowing. and given my size, riot gear might not be enough to even slow me down if I were that far gone and on the warpath...Still love watching and listening to people talking about the processes of making beer and spirits. and that fact will keep me watching your vids for as long as you continue to find them worth making.
