Thank you Ashura Nero, Archana Agarwal and patrick h. Any time you change something significantly and/or quickly, the body will react. It is getting a shock so changes will happen. It doesn't really matter if it a change toward something bad or something good. Change is different. In the long run there are certain things that the body needs so just learn what they are. That's what this channel is about..😄

I’ve been keto for almost 2 years and every thing Dr Sten says has happened to me plus now I find it really easy to maintain my weight. I eat very low carbs and I weight train 4 days a week on an empty stomach each time. I have tons of energy, I’m 54 and feel 24. Keto and the gym together is the fountain of youth. Thanks Doc!

So encouraging. I figured I was too far into "mitochondrial decay for anything to make a difference. Now, I'm easing my way out of WAY too high of a CHO intake, & into a Ketogenoc diet. At day 3, I can feel a difference. Teaching us the REALITY - that we need to STAY WITH IT - FOR MONTHS for it to really "kick in," is very helpful. Stay the course! Slow & steady wins the race!!! What good news this is. Thank you Dr Ekberg !!

@@michelleduncan9965 One of the side effects of eating fake food is massive weight gain. Think of that unwanted fat as some horrible tumor out of control. Once you start eating real food, along with less than 50g carbs a day you will get your health and energy back. And with good health and good eating habits, comes the weight loss. Avoid fake food like the plague, always.

Tusen takk!!

Discovered this channel 5 months ago and the progress since is amazing. This really works and you don't need to do everything perfect 100% of the time for it to work. You just gradually cut and replace the weak points in your diet and find what works. People have this misconception of the word "diet" like they are stepping into freezing water and hence do not make progress and give up.

I have learned a lot from your videos and changed my whole life style and feel better than ever! Only then do you find out that at least 90% cannot be called food in the supermarket. In the beginning it is mainly reading labels and different (delicious keto recipes by the way). But once you get used to it, it turns out that cooking has never been so simple. The first few days I had everything you listed but already after 3 days more energy! One thing I want to tell you and your readers: the first few days I still had a phenomenon about which I have not heard anyone and which was also difficult to find. I regularly got a kind of goosebumps in different places in my body and now and then a sharp stab as if I was being stung by something. It appears to be due to the enormous dip in your glucose, neuropathic symptoms that can also occur in diabetics. Of passing nature. Actually a good sign! I ate a lot of sweet things the week before (to unlearn it haha) so maybe that played a role as well. So, who recognizes this; no worries. Thank you for your insights which have greatly improved my health! Greetings from the Netherlands.

I thought I'd miss the intro, but I did enjoy jumping right into it. NOW, I loved this video! I've not seen anyone produce such a concise utility for understanding a totality of the process of moving from carbohydrate dependent to fat adapted. Well done! I think it addressed and resolved some key misconceptions that often drive people from taking advantage of what low carb diets have to offer. Also, I think you successfully catered to both: 1.) those that just want to know what they need to do to accomplish what results and 2.) those who also want to know what the body does to accomplished those results and why within a convenient sequence. ( ; As offered at 19:29, I would like to see a video based on such studies.

I have been really sceptical about Keto for a long time, but watching your videos has changed my mind. I've been researching intermittent fasting which is how I discovered your channel. Too bad I had to waste hours upon hours before I found the information I needed, so much misinformation on KZbin. I'm not overweight and never have been but I've been trying to lower my body fat percentage down to 12 - 14% for about 1year through calorie restriction and getting absolutely nowhere, even cutting out refined carbs didn't really help too much. In fact I started to crave chocolate and other sweet snacks instead when I would rarely eat these items before. I inadvertently started Keto on October 1 and my body fat percentage has gone from 18.6% to 17.7% (In 6 days!) In comparison it has taken 3 months to get from 19% to the 18.6% I was before starting Keto.

This is pretty much an exact breakdown of my experience! Very nice to see the graphical explanation! Go slow in the beginning was the key for me who started of big (BMI 40) and got hungry as soon as my belly was empty. I did low carb without reducing my "maintenance" calories for 4-5 days. In my case that was 2700Cal/day which is a lot of volume in low carb (when you don't intentionally add fat to keep the calories up) and I split this to 2 meals per day. I then changed this to Keto and for the first 1-2 days I had some hunger cravings as now the volume of food was dramatically reduced. After this I found it difficult to eat as much as 2700Cal/day over 2 meals on Keto so meals naturally got smaller and I then later switched to 1 meal a day and started doing a 24hr fast once a week. In hindsight I should have taken another 2-3 days upping my fat to my low carb meals so the reducing eating volume had not been so dramatic when switching to Keto. Other than those 1-2 days of uncomfort I would say my journey to now, BMI 23, has been goal focused but otherwise effortless! Learning how your metabolism works and that you need to target your insulin resistance rather than trying to lose weight is the key to health. Thank you for your invaluable presentations Dr. Ekberg!

Doctor Ekberg always make things become crystal clear ! In this video I saw "a part of fat and carbs metabolism mechanism". I wish one day we all can see an "overall mechanism for carbs, fat, protein metabolism", from there we have overview how foods is digested and why they are different, how fat is store, how LDL is developed !

Another great video that either refreshes what I already learned or offers a new or deeper perspectives on important health issues. Love your videos and the detailed, clear explanations. As far as the new intro, frankly I miss the usual format. I found it a good idea that you introduced what the video topic was about and how to avoid the health problem (IR, diabetes etc). I think it is important to keep a successful brand format especially for the daily new viewers you have. Anyone of your subscribers who just want to get into the video, will know approximately where to fast forward to. Nee, for me this intro was just a bit too abrupt. 'Coming right up...'. I missed that 'signature'. ;-)

Hi Sten. I've lowered my carbs intake for 18 days now. I feel great-light, no stomach pains.I have candida and have no symptoms because of fewer carbs. Im relying on carbs from my veg intake. I would also like to lose weight but realize that it will takes months. From special testing, I learned I produce way more insulin than the average,so low carb is great . I just hope im not eating too much fat? I have 2eggs in AM with cheese & butter on it , next meal is at night veg, chicken or salmon, & a salad,. I add butter to vegs. Then later I am tuna with mayo. I very impressed by the actual results-who ever thought carbs were my enemy hahah. Maybe i can make an appointment with you in a month or so,just to get a check up. Thanks for you presentations.

Eat 2 meals a day, walk to everywhere and still dont loose weight. I am going to start keto again in the New year or do omad. So proteïn and fat is for the body the best fuel. Although i hate it having restricties in diets. I am ging to start it in the New year and will discover if i get better again

Hi Doctor! Big fan for a few months and on Keto and Intermittent Fasting since June. It's now October. One of the best decisions along with having my daughter and quitting drinking, I've ever made. Can you please do a video on the importance of Salt, Magnesium and Potassium on a low carb diet? I felt pretty weak for months until I realized how depleted I was on salt. Good news though, I literally now have never felt better and fully am enjoying the benefits of transforming my eating habits to this wonderful way of life. Thank you so much for all your work you do for all of us. ❤

As an Indonesian people, I'm not so fully mastered in English. That's why I often replay your videos in order to understand your explanation better. I try to understand nearly all of your related videos as much as I can. Then I begin to practice it in my daily life starting from consuming low-carb-high-fat diet for a month, goes on to intermittent fasting 18-6 for a month, and I get better and better health. My body weight downs from 82kgs to 60-62kgs, my belly circumstance downs from 102cm to 80 cm, 170 cm in height, 63 years old. What makes me amazed is the results of my blood-work. My HbA1C is 5.0; triglyseride :52; blood glucose 97; HDL 60; LDL 16; Hb 13.5 and UA 3.0. Before practicing your advices, my blood work are always above the normal treshold. It seems that I am younger and younger. Thank you very much, doc. I will share your holostic health point of view in my simple native ways to Indonesian villagers who are often confused and frustated with their becoming worse and worse health conditions. I do hope you don't mind of that. Thank you....

Great video! I'm glad you talked some about endurance athletes. I do a lot of long hikes/runs (20 to 40 miles) in a day and I wasn't sure if my body would be able to handle low carbs for these activities. When I've been doing these long hard endurance activities, I've been switching off IF/fasting and eating more carbs that I would normally on my lower carb diet

I can't say I've ever heard of any top notch endurance athlete fasting before/during a marathon/ultra, or an Ironman, etc. In fact they are always making sure to fuel their body with food during the competition. Why is this if they don't need to?

Dr Sten, I love all your videos and how you explain them. After teaching myself over the last 20 years, everything you say seems to line up with what I have learned and even if it didn't that would not make you wrong necessarily. I could be wrong, of course. That said, anecdotally, I don't think that high intensity explosive type athletics goes well with Keto. To clarify, I am not referring to long distance type events that are essentially glucose and fat dependent. I am referring to short explosive type movements that would use ATP and CP and some Glucose, but very little fat (obvious, we use all fuel sources at all times, just in different mixtures). In my experience, and from most other athletic people I know, is that even after months of keto and fat adaptation, the high end just isn't quite what it used to be. I am talking about "less than 10 second type explosive efforts", so sprints, jumps, anything that truly relies primarily on ATP+CP+GLUCOSE in that order. My ability to generate power on long-term keto is much less than when I am glucose dependent. I have gone keto at least 8 times in my life for 3+ months at at time, and near the end of the phase of each, I still never had top-end power at the same level. I had GREAT stable energy, I could run for hours, which lines up with everything you say, of course. But my 100M, 200M and 400M track times were at least 10% slower, if not more. So from personal experience, it sure seems like the top gear is missing, even when fat adapted. Again, not to say we can't do high intensity exercise, just that it seems to be lacking the extra gear that glucose dependency seems to have. I can't imagine football players, for example, being able to play at their best on a ketogenic diet. I'd be curious to hear why you may or may not agree with this. Not that this is complete proof, but there are many experts and even studies who echo this, which lined up with my personal experience. I would go so far as to say that my experience is the prevailing opinion on the matter, which of course, doesn't necessarily make it true. I know even in your own past videos, you seem to concede (I mean that in a positive way) that if you want to be a professional level athlete, or very high level, that you probably want to avoid low-carb or a ketogenic diet. For everyone else, including us weekend warriors, the ketogenic diet or a low carb diet is better for health. I mean, I don't believe that professional athletes or Olympians are any heathier, in fact, they may be beating up and abusing their body to a certain degree to get that few extra few percent improvement. I get that, and I agree with that. In other words, high-level athletics doesn't necessarily mean the person is healthy, or has long term health in mind.

When I first started watching, i was already fasting. My fasting was for religious purposes. I was doing a 48 hr fast each week, for 7 weeks. I didn't lose weight because i ate lots of carbs. I found your videos which taught me what to eat. Since then I had to cut down on my blood pressure meds. In rwo months i went from taking 6 pills a day for BP to just one. So thanks.
