FFIV rando will wreck you for being sloppy, not saving, and rushing if you don't know what you're doing. Basically it's going to hit every single one of Jerd's weaknesses. This one is gonna get rough.

Some general tips: -Need free healing? Visit chocobo forests and talk to the White chocobo. They'll restore your MP for free. There's also a free heal in Damcyan, the Dwarf Castle, Cecil's bed, and the Lunar Whale -the original SNES version has a "peninsula of power" far north of Mt. Ordeals, but since you have the airship, it's easier to just level around Agart, south of Baron. -Cid can equip axes, bows, and hammers; Edward can equip knives and bows; Edge can equip claws. The Cat Claw will increase his speed, giving him more attacks per fight, and might be worth keeping in one of his weapon slots. -generally, you'll want wizards to equip rods and healers to equip staves, as they will increase magic power. -Berserk is a good spell to use on Cecil, Yang, and Cid -some bombs will explode the entire enemy party if they're hit with lightning

YEEEESSSS, my favorite RPG randomizer to watch finally on this channel! There's just something about FF4 Free Enterprise that hits in a way that Chrono Trigger Jets of Time and Super Mario RPG Randomizer don't even though I love those vanilla games exponentially more. Re (limited) help: + Items not present in the final Western versions of the game such as the AgApple were added back in. + If you have boss scaling on, then the randomized boss that appears in a given location is scaled to match the original boss of that location, though I forget if it's scaled to that level (and therefore all the stats adjust accordingly) or only to that HP. + You'll probably want to do a few easy checks first like the Cave of Mist just to make sure that your party can handle Mt. Ordeals enough to class change your Cecil since you pretty much have early-game characters. + That Darkness Crystal that you started with was the trigger for obtaining the Lunar Whale, and if you're not already using a tracker program like EmoTracker (which can auto-track if you use SNES9x or BizHawk) with the Free Enterprise pack or a Free Enterprise-specific tracker to track at least key item locations and what's open/available to do for at least this first playthrough over your usual pen-and-paper notebook method then it'd probably behoove you to do so. I even wrote a no-frills web tracker of my own for FF4 Rando purposes and put it on GitHub but it's extremely manual, no connection to running programs of any kind to automatically determine what's gotten where.

As someone who is very experienced in this I'm both happy and sad this isn't live I could help but keeping my mouth shut would be a problem. To anyone who wants to know more about the seed and what he has enabled read bellow. Also Jared if you are ever stuck go to Baron city and talk to Rosa's mom in one of the buildings she will tell you all the checks. For a general overview of what Free enterprise is an open(ish) world randomizer in FF4 where the only locations are blocked by the key items needed to trigger the way. IE to get to the underground map you need either the Hook to go through the Eblan Caves or the Magma Key to open up the mountain well. While getting to the moon map requires the Darkness crystal. The final objective is to get the Crystal key item and defeating Zeromus. As far as the randomization is concerned the scrips and bosses change but they have the stats of that location like the Baron king location will have the Kainazzo stats even if the Boss is Bahamut. First of with main being the only thing he has enabled for key item shuffling he will not have to fight the summon fights or moon bosses for checks. The Pass which gives a fast way to the Zeromus fight without going through the moon dungeon is included in a random shop. For characters, all character locations are enabled with the abilities of the Japanese original release but not the spells. The characters also start with a random lower level weapon and no armor. Finally he has made it so not all characters are guaranteed to appear meaning you could be missing out on say Rosa, Cecil, or FuSoYa three of the higher powered characters in the game. For treasure he put it to Wild chest randomization which means that the chests can include anything with no restrictions all the way up to adamant armor. He also made it Sparse 80 which means only 80% of the items are in those chests the rest are empty. For shops the standard randomization is in play which makes higher value items less likely to appear make it less likely you will steamroll the game with no other changes. For the bosses he has the standard randomization again which makes it a little safer in so far that the bosses with the insane move sets wont be blocking access to the underground porthion of the game. The last thing I can see enabled is whyburn which is also a safety thing to make the seed more playable in disabling the Wyvern bosses opening MegaNuke which it does no matter the location usually leading to full party wipes unless you cheese the game.

town of Baron: upper right you can go through the trees to the left and get items. Cecil as dark knight can only wear the dark, shadow, and black equipment. to equip a weapon on someone who has a bow and arrows, first remove the arrows then select the bow.

Admittingly I'm surprised it took so long for this to happen but hey glad it's here! Gonna do my thing of explaining stuff based on the gameplay featured. Someone explained most of the flag stuff and such so I'll just focus on what happens in each video and stuff that could be potentially missed, or even tips for those who want to try this out. As the name says, the game starts you with the Enterprise, the first airship you get from Baron normally, and lets you explore about 70% of the full game. The underworld is unavailable as is the moon from the start, unless if you're given one of the key items to access it, such as the Magma Key (Underworld) or Darkness Crystal (Moon via the Lunar Whale). A concern people might have with the OG FFIV is characters just up and leaving your party. Good news, that doesn't happen. Once you hit 5 characters, if you recruit a 6th, you can choose who you want to replace, or just get rid of whoever joins. Since the OG FF4 does also have characters join multiple times, you can get multiples of the same party member easily. Just who is the question. As we see in the 2nd half of the video, the npc text has been reworked for all stuff related to the Randomizer, from tips and jokes. This also includes hints as to where certain key items are located or even party members. Bosses can be randomized as well and are scaled based on the location. But a MegaNuke is still a MegaNuke. The rewards (EXP and Gil) can be increased to compensate the players using No Random Encounters, which tends to be the way most people tend to play. As for Gil, cause bosses don't give a lot, since there's a lot of treasures you can find, you are expected to sell them for any and all funding. If you don't find many of the amazing party members or good items early, checking the boss locations early on normally (Mist Dragon, Antlion, the Octopus thing) to get some early levels can help. Since we found 2 key items...well started with 1 and found 1, let's go over this. Darkness Crystal: Gives access to the Lunar Whale and the Moon. Moon means we can see the Fusoya location for a character, or even check out the shops there. Moon does mean some pretty good tier items usually. Hook: Lets you grab the Hovercraft to access the Underworld and is the alternative to the Magma Key. It is possible that a seed will require you to use the Hook to get the Magma Key from the underworld itself.

Never before has humanity created something that moved as fast as me clicking on this video. After watching the video, I'll put some tips down below, based on my knowledge of FF4 for you, Jared. Hopefully they aren't too railroad-y or demanding. Please consider them suggestions for paths you could take, and nothing more. Good luck on the run, I'm already excited for this, I love FF4 and have always wanted to try this randomizer myself, just not tech savvy enough (and brave enough) to try and set it up. [EDIT]: Alright. Finished the video. 1. I actually don't remember, but I think Cid can use daggers, so that Mute or Assassin knife could work for them, but you gotta remove the BOW first for him to be able to do so. Game's clunky like that. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong and I don't mind that, but if they can use daggers, definitely better than the bow in times of need on Cid. 2. Palom is the game's BEST mage, statistically... from what I remember. This isn't me telling you how to play the game, you use who you like (I like Rydia and Palom), but he's an actual powerhouse of a mage, so beefing him up and keeping him around might not be a shabby idea. 3. The free'est characters I can think of to get are some of the ones you've already gotten, bracketed names for who they are in vanilla game: [Palom/Porom] in Mysidia, and [Edward] in Damcyan. If you wanna try for someone else to swap out a Cid, you could head to the caves just below Damcyan for [Tellah]. Similarly, East of Damcyan Castle is Mount Hobs, clearing it you can find [Yang], though you WILL have to find Mom Bomb. Darkness will be a huge boon here, as I believe she's weak to dark element. 3b. If you want my thoughts, go for [Tellah], as he's basically free. I dunno if the game has character checks or not like some randomizers do, but you have Cecil and [Tellah] might want that. He's also located RIGHT by the south-most cave entrance. It's just a little NE of Kaipo in the southern desert (which itself is just East of the village of Mist; if that helps). The whole Damcyan Cave is loaded with easy treasure to get, and is early-game dungeon, so the fights shouldn't be too bad. You could potentially even clear the boss, [Octomammon] or whoever it ends up being, getting some sweet sweet gear, just consider getting some wooden hammers at least for the Cids. Some thoughts: 4. I definitely think you should consider looking over the rest of the overworld towns. Don't forget you died and thus missed the loot in some of the towns, such as Mythril (the one with tiny folk/pigs/frogs). There is also several items in the Village of Mist (in the grass and in Rydia's House) that might be worthwhile. 5. If you are just traveling around, consider swapping over to the Lunar Whale. It has a free Inn and Bank inside it. Even I didn't know this as a kid, but you can always return to the Blue Planet by touching the Crystal in the Lunar Whale to swap between Blue Planet/Moon, and use the block-shaped Helm to simply Pilot it. Hope that's not too hand-hold-y. But it is useful for the free heals. 6. I agree with your plans to do some early dungeons, especially since it looks like the chests in the game are fully-sent pure Chaos. Easier enemies, better treasure. Once you get some better gear, you can move on to bigger leaps. Pretend you are playing the game normally for a while, until you are feeling brave. Hope the wall o' text didn't intimidate. I tried to break it up a bit so it wasn't so mind-numbing......... honestly, looking at it, that does feel like an info dump overload. I'm gonna leave it there and say "hope it's not too much". Tips for people getting into the Free Enterprising fun. - Rosa's Mom's house that Jared went into, if you talk to her she gives you tips based on your seed. - Don't be shy to toggle off random battles. Bosses give alot of EXP and are not very hard until later on. (Dark Knight Cecil in the end game areas is terrifying.) - Watch the speed runs. Some of the seeds they run are alot of fun. - Press Select for more info on items/equips. Super neat they added this. Happy Randomizing!

As a general tip for the randomizer, its good to go to areas where you get party members without fights to try and build yojr party early. Also, dont be afraid to sell items you loot for money as you will get plenty of equipment for your party.

Just a heads-up if it isn't already discovered by the time this goes out. Free Enterprise has party member checks wherever a character would join or rejoin the party. For example, Yang has one check where you would normally get him and another check in the bar in Baron, hence there being stuff like why you have two Cids.

ok I might leave a lot of comments. a few tips: -first thing you wanna do is loot, loot, loot. caves, towns, dungeons, etc. -if you press the Select button on the item screen, it'll bring up a submenu that lists all the stats and effects of all the weapons and armor you have -your goal is to gain access to the moon (to fight the end boss). you have to find a path that gets you there by obtaining Key Items from defeating bosses. HOWEVER, depending on your difficulty setting and randomizer flagset, some Key Items will NOT be obtainable by defeating bosses. You'll have to find them in certain Key treasure chests. -if you at any point obtain the Pass item, you can turn it in at the cafe in Troia and it will open a gateway leading directly to the final boss. -bonus tip: if you want to cheeze the game, there's an optional flagset called Omnidextrous which allows anyone to equip anything anywhere. For example you in theory could have Palom dual-wielding Crystal Swords and be wearing an Adamant armor on his face, body, and arms :) Have fun Jerd! ps sorry if any of this is redundant I'm only 4min into the video 😄

In the early game of a run, your first goal usually should be raiding as many treasure chests as possible to get gear and cash. I usually start by making a run through the early game (watery pass, Damcyan castle treasury, antlion cave) which gives you a LOT of chests.

In this randomizer you can get multiple of the same character because it counts the times they rejoin your party. In my run I ended up with 3 Kains. In Mysidia, you can go to the tower and change up your party. In my run I played it through it (mostly) linearly, but I did jump to areas where have party members join your team, like Tellah, Edward, Yang - although you're likely to get completely random characters.

Generally encounters off is so you can wander area's where enemies would otherwise introduce your face to the ground, find treasures in those places and then turn it back on when your party has any kinda chance

In the versions where you can build your final party, Edward's stats get extremely high starting level 70 (kinda like Onion Knights in ff3 sucking up to job level 80 and then mauling everything).

30:00 this is a more advanced technique for people focused on speedrunning. (hopefully I will explain it correctly) The character in the center position is your "agility anchor" from which the agility of all the bosses is based. So if you have a character with a high agility in the center position, the bosses will all have a higher agility. So, a strategy people like to use is to equip the cursed ring on your most *useless* character and put them in the center position and leave them KO'd. That way your anchor's agility score will always be 1.

some free FF4 randomizer strategies, just because you asked! - there's plenty of characters out there you can get for free, any excess characters usually go to mysidia for you to trade around, so don't feel stuck with someone! - as someone else said, chocobo forests are your friend when haz no healer. - Don't worry too much about fighting battles, sometimes just going around looting is enough and you get the XP you need from boss fights. I've had runs where my random encounter total is less than 50 other than required encounters. - Do be mindful of your inventory space. It feels like you have a bunch at first, but you'll fill up on space fast, trust me! - just enjoy the experience and the "oh god where can i go next" and the rest of us will enjoy the ride!

I think the reason you're getting multiple Cids, Rosas, etc. is because these people leave and rejoin your party at different levels throughout the original game. So you're getting the different versions of those characters.

I've played this mod a lot. Quick note: the experience scaling is on the boss fights, so it's way more fun to disable random battles, because that exp. doesn't really matter by the end.

Also it may help to turn encounters off at the start of a randomizer so you can quickly check early dungeons for (hopefully) some good equipment. You can also check where you encounter new party members, such as Waterway (1st Tellah), Mt. Hobs (1st Yang), and Mt Ordeals (2nd Tellah) - of course these will be random characters. Once you have things more set, turn encounters back on so you can get that Exp and GP And also, you'll need key items to trigger new party members, like the Package for Town of Mist and Sandruby in Kaipo

We have multiple Cids because they're technically different instances of Cid joining the party. So following that, it's possible to get two Yangs, two Tellahs, Rydia at different ages, post-fever Rosa and post-kidnapping Rosa, and sleeper Kain and freed Kain. From memory, I will try to recall the locations of key items and party members, feel free to ignore this as it's mostly for me. Baron: Package/bomb ring, Odin, Kain, Cid, Enterprise hook, Falcon drill Baron town: Yang Mist: Young Rydia Water Passage: Tellah Damcyan: Edward, hovercraft Antlion's Cave: Sandruby Kaipo: Rosa Mt. Hobs: Yang Mysidia: Palom and Porom, Big Whale Mt. Looking forward to the nostalgic parts of the areas and the music (FFIV boss music slaps SO hard), and I've been looking forward to this treat on this channel ever since I learnt Free Enterprise is a thing. I played this back when it came out in the US, and not much since, so also totally don't remember all the treasure spots. But! With Encounters Off, I bet we could take little pleasure cruises into face-stomping dungeons and grab some LOOT? Looking forward to this weird adventure!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Lunar Whale has a healing crystal or something in it, so you could use that as a free heal instead of paying Inns.

I love Jared's huge laughter whenever something happens in randomizers. Rosa? Nah! Kainazzo!! Also, and I may be wrong, but I don't think you can check if someone can equip something. If they have both arrows and a bow equipped you have to unequip one of them

I never really played the main line Final Fantasy games besides 9 (the only one I finished so far), 10, 12 and 14, so, just like your playthrough of the original FF, it surprises me how much of the other games is in FF14. The music, the characters, the names... For example, I thought the bunnies with the "-way" names were a creation for FF14.

Oh, this is only the first episode, but this is already so hilarious 🤣. Final Fantasy IV was my very first game in this series, back when it was released as Final Fantasy II in the states. It got me into RPGS and video games in general. It holds a very special place in my heart.

The wooden hammers for Cid were only 80 gp. You could sell the bows and arrows and probably have that money. You could use Peep to see if you could have beaten Cagnazzo. Probably not, but we would love to have seen that. Lol

I’m not familiar with the randomizer but I think when you do story moments where party members leave or when you get new party members, it’s effectively like Russian roulette where a random person is removed. That might be why there’s two cids
