Aldi used to have the reputation of being lower quality. They’ve done A LOT of rebranding over the last decade, but I wonder if some folks still think of them that way. I’ve always loved them anyway. I kind of miss the days when people avoided them though, because the stores were a lot less crowded. 😄
@julieannelovesbooks3 жыл бұрын
I see this with a lot of my friends that they grew up when Aldi had lower quality foods and their parents really drilled it into them that Aldi and Lidl etc aren't good to shop at. They still hardly ever shop at Aldi even though I save so much money by going there and I mean, the food is pretty good quality now. The only difference I notice is the one in my wallet.
@davidthescottishvegan3 жыл бұрын
In the UK a recent survey was done and Aldi came out as the cheapest supermarket it got 5 stars for price but 3 stars for quality so as the saying goes you get what we paid for and when you go to Aldi and unfortunately Lidl also had the same quality standard problem you are paying for low quality.
@julieannelovesbooks3 жыл бұрын
@@davidthescottishvegan In the Netherlands I haven't found that to be the case at all. Especially the produce is really high quality. Some things like the crisps will obviously not taste the same as something like doritos but that's also not something that I get regularly so those items I do get at a more expensive store. But like day to day stuff like bread, canned stuff, pasta, hummus, condiments, bread toppings like peanut butter and of course produce are really good and I don't notice a difference in regards to quality. Of course they don't sell things like vegan cheese so I get that at a more expensive store every once in a while and my soy milk I get from a brand, because the Lidl one really really sucks. But that's the only thing really. A lot of the lidl meat replacements are some of my favorites aswell.
@davidthescottishvegan3 жыл бұрын
@@julieannelovesbooks The products i have bought usually canned tomatoes, beans and the plant menu (their vegan brand in the UK) items have been 👌 and I would buy them again. In the UK it is only Violife the hard cheddar block and the grated vegan cheese Aldi sell. They haven't got round to introducing their own vegan cheese or vegan yogurt.
@julieannelovesbooks3 жыл бұрын
@@davidthescottishvegan yeah the Netherlands is pretty behind on good quality vegan cheese (only from violife) or good quality yoghurt products (only from alpro) we have seen some yoghurt products from oatly but due to so weird things with investors in China(?) or something like that???? I have stopped buying those products (I’ve never liked oatly in the past so the thing that’s been going on basically insured that I won’t be tryin them again for a while).

I used to go to Aldi with my mom when I was younger but she stopped shopping there for some reason so when I went back after years it was so great. Even their blueberries had great prices. I like to mix about 40% steel cut oats with 60% quick oats... I usually just pour in boiling water and then cover my bowl with a pan or lid and let it sit for about 5-10 mins... Comes out perfectly! I prefer the texture of rolled oats but I love the extra thickness that the steel cut oats add.

it was just the same cookie recipe we normally use! just experiment with how long to cook it in there because it will cook differently / usually faster. the recipe is in the description! we used a lil extra flour than the recipe says in ours but thats just cuz thats the way my roommate likes them. idk how much of a difference it makes

I think steel cut oats are infinitely better when made with a plant milk! You do have to use a bigger bowl to account for overflow but i find it gets a lot creamier when u cook the oats in it rather than just pour it on top

For pizza we have a similar tray and one trick we learned from either Isa Chandra or Lauren Toyota can’t remember, is to put the pizza directly in the bottom of the oven, it really helps crisp up the dough, and then finish by broiling for a bit. Have the oven set really high

Pro tip with pizza dough let it fall off edge of counter while constantly turning it to roll it out. Don't roll it out with pin it flatens the bubbles which flattens the taste by getting rid of the gases in the dough. Also cook on highest setting of your oven most conventional can get as high as 500 degrees. The high heat and the gas in the dough will create very complex flavor and emulate the heat in a wood fire oven! Be sure to not cook for more than 7-10 mins or it'll burn. Or just cook with oven light and watch untill golden brown. Bon appetit!

Get an oven thermometer. They’re pretty cheap (under $10) and hang out in the oven. The temp you input might not actually be the temp inside the oven, so then you can adjust as needed. Also for pizza, get your oven ripping hot - max it out and let preheat for like 30 min.

All the steel cut oats hate in the comments makes me so sad ☹️ cooking them in an instapot/pressure cooker with some soy milk, water, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and sugar makes them SO delicious! Also, adding the toppings to the pizza and letting it test for 30 minutes will help it get fluffy again bc it’ll have time to rise back up. It’ll also help to just stretch it with your hands so you keep some of the air in instead of pushing it out with a rolling pin.
