You are a huge inspiration of mine! I am 24, and I don't come from a family with the healthiest eating habits. My young metabolism has saved me, but watching your channel always reminds me of the importance to not coast in life. I always try to be kind and classy, I try to be mindful of what goes in to my body, I try to get moving (which is hard with a computer job), and I try to be easy on myself when I am not perfect. Even my fiancé says I have been different lately in the way I treat myself. I find you to be such an uplifting person and I hope you continue to make videos as long as you are able! I see you have worked hard and been blessed with many nice things and I hope that continues for you in your life!

Excellent Dominique! Eating reasonably and healthy is definitely key. Your meals are easy but tasty. I agree that it is a lifestyle,not a diet! And I love that you chop/prep all of the veggies for your salad in advance. Not having those readily available can be a downfall. I wondered how you shared meals with your family when you work such a late schedule...thanks for sharing! Happy, healthy 2019!

Dominique, I wanted to say thank you for doing this video. I’m overweight and really need to change my eating patterns and i have been so discouraged lately because I just didn’t know where to start and felt so overwhelmed every time I would think about giving up the things I love. You just showed me that it’s really not that hard to make it a way of life and that it’s okay to enjoy the things we love sometimes as long as we’re making better decisions on the regular. I finally feel more motivated so thank you!! I’d also love to know what supplements you take. Have a great day Dominique and btw I love your new haircut! 😊

good luck Hannah. I'd been a dieter and bad eater all my life. Then last year I took myself in hand and devised a way of eating whereby I cut out bread, cut out all processed food and only ate lean proteins, seasonal veg and drank only milk and water. It is basically what Dominique is advocating. It is absolutely incredible how the craving stopped once I cut bread and processed food out of my eating. I have stuck to my good eating plan now for 7 months and I just don't go rummaging through the cupboards anymore searching for more food. I lost 2st. Another key for me was advanced fault planning. This is basically where you plan in advance what you are going to do when you encounter a 'fault', in this case the urge to eat rubbish. I realised that I was an emotional eater, so what I did was to identify the emotions that led to me eating and worked out a tactic that I would use instead of eating. So for example if I wanted a treat then instead of buying food I bought myself a plant (cos I like plants). If I felt stressed then instead of pulling into the nearest petrol station and buying chocolate, I breathed deeply and tried to relax. That really helped. Another strategy I used was microgoals. This is where you set a really small achievable goal. Mine was to only lose 3lb every month. This was easily achievable and when the scales went up a bit I didn't get despondent and reach for the biscuit barrel angry with myself, I just said 'I only have to lose 3lb this month, keep going and see what happens' - and I did! Lose 3lb every month. One final strategy that also really helped was to say a daily mantra, it helps remind your subconscious brain that this is your goal and that throughout the day to stick with it. My mantra was 'this month I will lose 3lb and be ....., I will do this by eating lean proteins, seasonal veg, doing 30 min exercise each day and remember that food is for nutrition only, it can't do anything else for me, If I feel stressed breathe deeply, if I feel bored play an instrument, if I want a treat buy a plan, if I feel sorry for myself think of something that happened yesterday that I am grateful for etc etc'. Hope some of that helps, good luck. 2019 will be your year when you beat these bad eating patterns. Go for it!

Do you think the Keto diet or the Mediterranean is the healthiest
@Foofie20055 жыл бұрын
Teresa Mccallie It really seems like a personal choice. I’ve tried a Keto style diet, but I feel so constricted that’s it’s not really sustainable for Me. But that me.. I know tones of people who thrive on it. So, I would say a Mediterranean style is what I enjoy more. Basically make fresh healthy food choices 🥬🥒🥑🍗 and keeping myself active is what I try to do! Whatever you're doing Dominique, is obviously working! I've been intermittent fasting (early dinner, skipping breakfast) for over 3 years now, and it's made a huge difference in my appearance and health. According to 23 and Me, I'm predicted to be 40 pounds heavier than what I actually am. Thanks to focussing on a whole foods keto diet with intermittent fasting, I've been able to outsmart my genes! Curious about where you get your nutrition/health info? Maybe you could do a video about your favorite health books, websites, podcasts, channels, etc. So many women admire you and would benefit from having those doors opened for them.
@melvern9466 жыл бұрын
Predicted to be heaver does NOT mean you have to be. I am predicted to be 10 lbs. heavier on 23 and me too.No thanks! Keto is not healthy and does allow for fiber and vegetables and fruit and whole, complex grains. I know, I did it and lost only 5 l bs in 3 mos.You will loose weight easier and keep it off easier if you try vegetarian or allow much more fiber in your diet, "Neato."

It's great that you've found a way of eating that is working for you, but I've been eating keto for almost 3.5 years, and can assure you that it is indeed healthy and optimal for myself, and MANY other people. I don't know what version of keto you were following, but I eat plenty of veggies and berries and get more than enough fiber. I suggest you do a YT search on "former vegetarian/vegan" and listen to all the stories of people wishing they had never gone down that path.

I am Type II Diabetic and after years of up and down blood sugar readings, mine finally has remained steady in just a few weeks of dieting low-carb. I eat lots of low-fat protein like Salmon, Chicken, and Turkey Burgers, along with any green vegetables & a small toss salad. For breakfast I have a boiled egg and cottage cheese. I feel so much better and have lost 19 lbs. I have much more to lose, but I think I can make it all the way. A handful of nuts are my best snacks....TFS
@wjs57736 жыл бұрын
The great thing about low carb is that it isn’t NO carb. Plenty of healthy carb options out there if you avoid white processed foods and potatoes and white rice. Yesterday I finished reading a good book by a UK physician called Michael Mosley called the Fast 800. He has great statistics about blood sugar as he once wrote a book about it and he criticises the medical establishment for not having given best advice to diabetics about their diet. He got interested when he was diagnosed with Type2 himself.

@@wjs5773 Unfortunately a lot of the medical establishment would rather push insulin and drugs then push the idea of a healthy diet. Good morning Dominique, I love this video! Thank you so much, you truly are an inspiration! 20 years ago I decided to change my diet and practice a healthier more active lifestyle. I consulted with a physician and RD, armed with the information I needed, I lost 55 lbs, I feel better and sleep better. I've kept the weight off for 20 years which is difficult but it can be done! Consistency and lifestyle modifications are important prepping your food ahead of time and building exercise into your day (I walk 3 miles at lunch and take the stairs vs. the elevator) are key. When I indulge, I plan ahead of time, 90% of the time, I'll eat healthily and 10% is for when we eat out with friends and family; instead of an entree, I chose an appetizer and broth-based soup or salad. I still feel like I've had a treat but it's proper portion size.

It’s all about moving. I eat healthy during the week, no junk food, very little sugar. I allow myself one day a week to indulge.

I eat a ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting also. I eat a lot of vegetables and I love eggs and I make a bread out of almond, flower, coconut flour, milled flax and sillium husk. IT'S awesome! THE REAL KEY IS WATCHING THE SUGAR AND CARB INTAKE. MOVING YES! GETTING OUT FOR A WALK.

Random Person i tried the keto diet for a couple of months and lost a lot of weigh on it but i also noticed i lost quite a bit of hair while on the diet. There’s always a down side to diets. Talking with others on the diet they complained about hair loss as well. How about you are you experiencing hair falling out? And im not talking about the normal amount we lose in a day mine was crazy amounts to where it was scaring me.

I always ask for the lemon on the side and squeeze the juice in but not putting rind in glass. Most restaurants do not wash lemons ..organic or not ....and servers hygiene.

I skip the lemon altogether when dining out, hygiene would be the reason too.

@@hopenoneya8161 Yeah, my friends that work in restaurants have told me that. Never get them lemon wedge.

I recently read it’s better to eat raw almonds because when they’re roasted you lose the benefits of the healthy oils.
@emerybayblues6 жыл бұрын
Some people have issues eating raw nuts because it hurts their stomach. You lose some benefits from roasting but not all. The best would probably be to soak the nuts then do a dehydration in a low oven.
@TawdryTempest5 жыл бұрын
@@emerybayblues Yes, this! If you have a gas oven, you can just leave them in the oven (NOT turned on) on a paper towel on a plate (this is after soaking and rinsing) for a day or two. The pilot light heat is enough to dehydrate them. Soaking for several days increases the absorption of nutrients. Change the water a few times too.

Eating 6 overnight soaked and peeled almonds in the morning on empty stomach is best. Dry fruits have tanins which are not good for health. Tanins can be removed by soaking them in water overnight.

You are such an inspiration. Can you share more about how you mentally handle aging. I’m 49 and struggling with the thought of hitting 50.

Very helpful and very easy to incorporate into my life. Due to an auto accident and then a fall in which I broke my wrist, I have not been able to exercise the way I would like BUT, you give me courage! Thanks

Dominique, I just love your advice. I’m on a journey to be more healthy. Not because of the new year, but because of health concerns, specifically finding out I’m pre-diabetic. This video was very, very helpful. I have watched you on the news and admired you for many years, & I appreciate all that you do for us viewers!
