Hey gang -- here is the veggie burger recipe, which I ill put in description as well: Black Bean/Lentil Veggie Burgers 3 cups cooked lentils 3 cups cooked black beans 1 cup cooked rice 1 cup raw oats 1/2 cup ketchup 1/2 cup dried/minced onions 2 tsp smoked paprika Mash ingredients together with potato masher, until desired consistency is reached (need to be able to form into patties). Form mixture into patties, and place on cookie sheet. Cover and place in refrigerator, for at least an hour (over night is best) Chill and grill! These are REALLY GOOD!!! They come from a formula vegan dietitian Jeff Novick MS RD came up with. You can get the full series of HCLF veggie burgers on DVD from: store.vegsource.com/collections/jeff-novick/products/jeff-novicks-fast-food-dvd-vol-2-burgers-fries

This is the most "dad" thing I've ever watched. I appreciate that you're not putting on a show or making it pretty, you're just preparing and serving how you would when the camera isn't on. It's the best way to show how easy this diet can be.

I love this! It's kind of how I eat. I love how you just eat out of the pyrex cup. I do that too for my oatmeal breakfast but I plate up my lunch and dinner. eating from a measuring cup saves water because you don't have to wash and extra dish and you can really get a good idea of how much for you're eating. I like your style. I subscribed.

I guess I am more like Sabrina, I put a lot of effort Into cooking but now that I school start tomorrow you have given me ideas on what to prepare for my lunches. The frozen blueberries tip is golden. The only way I improve on it, is that I pour the blueberries in the bowl before I finish cooking the oatmeal on the stovetop. That way, the bottom of the bowl is nice and cool when you pick it up, even after the blueberries have been mixed in with the oatmeal.
@vegsource

+Marion Poliquin Good tip! We sometimes use an Instant Pot for oatmeal, it comes out really nice, great texture.
@marionpoliquin5102
@marionpoliquin5102 9 жыл бұрын
I agree. The Instant Pot makes great oatmeal. It's a great fire-and-forget option for when I'm not ready to eat right away. May I also suggest cooking the banana along with the oatmeal? It makes the oatmeal taste like those fried banana buns they serve in chinese restaurants. So good. I'm not sure the result would be the same in the microwave, but it works in the Instant Pot. Stir before serving.

Why no leafy greens? I've seen that with the girls too. I understand it's no calories, and not saying have it as a meal, but I always put leafy greens in with my starches, or steam some kale. Dr. Gregor raves about the importance of leafy greens too
@binghamalison00123
@binghamalison00123 9 жыл бұрын
+TallythePlantEater im vegan too and i find it hard incorporating leafy greens such as kale into my diet being that i hate the taste. Same with herbs. Maybe theyre like that too? Not sure but with me even adding a bit of kale to anything ruins the taste for me
@vegsource
@vegsource 9 жыл бұрын
+TallythePlantEater Leafy greens are great, no doubt! Particularly good for people battling heart disease who need extra nitric oxide to open their clogged arteries. However, one thing you should know about me: I am not of the "more nutrients are better" school. I do not believe that excellent health REQUIRES lots of greens or lots of any other special nutrients beyond a fairly simple starch-based diet. I will make a video about this at some point, but to extend life, restrict nutrients. It's true. The longest-lived cultures like the Okinawans, do not eat a lot of greens, don't eat much nuts, do not have a broad exposure to many different nutrients. Okinawans have a diet which is 70% sweet potatoes, 12% rice, 7% grains/wheat, 6% legumes and only 4% additional vegetables and just 3% fruits. New research on calorie restriction out of Australia seems to suggest that it is not the calorie restriction but the NUTRIENT restriction which is causing extended lifespan in all animals and insects studied (including humans). That could be because your cells become a lot more efficient in re-using nutrients when there is a paucity of nutrition. The stress of not enough nutrition is actually helpful, just like physical stress can be helpful. Cellular efficiency created by a lack of some nutrients can translate to extended cell life...which is called living longer, and extended lifespan... So it's kind of counter-intuitive to the way most people currently think, which is -- "get more of this healthy nutrient, that important nutrient and LOTS of this nutrient because it's so good!" Yes, that can promote health, but it won't necessarily make you live longer, whereas adequate or barely adequate nutrition can extend your life. I'm getting out on a tangent here, but going to make a video about this at some point. Cheers!

Frozen is typically higher in nutrition as it is harvested in the leak of ripeness and flash frozen. "Fresh fruits and veggies" have been sitting around often for long periods of time. Nutrition experts advocate frozen for convenience. And depending on the season, it can be cost effective and makes certain fruits and veggies available when during times when they aren't in season. Frozen veggies. A win. Lazy people rejoice!! 😄

thanks so much for the burger recipe! ! I'm going to make some today! I am also 59 and vegan and bicycle every day because I don't drive. but I'm a girl and what I find is that the women I'm around are all trying to lose weight and they are terrified of eating too much starch. it's painful for me to see the tiny amounts they allow themselves. They refuse to believe me when I tell them that I eat a full pound of grain (or five pounds of potatoes) in addition to a half pound of legumes every day. I'm a size 6 and really strong for my size. So anyone reading this, starch rules. Eat as much as you can. Your body will become amazing and thank you every day.

Could you please share the recipe for the burger? I'm having trouble finding one that works well. I like how yours comes out crisp. :)

Thanks! Very refreshing to see the simplicity of your meals! But how about green leaves for the calcium? Do you take them as well?

Great ideas. So easy. What I do too. We and the millions who saw you eat out of a Pyrex measuring cup won't tell.

A lot of people say microwave food is bad . I actually study about them in college and they basically heat up the molecule . Maybe don't use them for all three meals is best. Nonetheless, that crunch on the burger tho ! 😍

Hi Jeff, great video. Quick question: Seems like you don't add any fat at all to your diet, is that right? Was there any fat added to the beans? If not, the only fat you got in that video is from the oatmeal and the oats in burgers, overall, a very negligible amount of fat. Do you ever add any kind of fat to your food? Thank you.
