You definitely have cornered the market on living on the cheap. I guess we've all dreamed about getting away from the rat race. Most of fear our financial demise if we don't keep showing up at work. I am curious how you cover things like healthcare and saving for the future.

Wow $738 for alternator! I've always done these type of repairs on my own. Not the norm for a woman. My mom got ripped off when I was a 14yo. I taught myself thru trial and error. I even replaced a computer in my Jeep. I fully rebuilt a Jeep over 2yrs, roughly 4K, only to lose it to a crazed mechanic. I gave him a list and a month to complete major parts I didn't want to tackle. He had Ashburger's Syndrome, I didn't realize. At 9 weeks I went by his Shop after he had left (as I had done before w/ no issues), to get work supplies. He had left a rear window somewhat open, and the inside was full of mold! I live in FL, doesn't take much. When I was leaving he came barreling in. I kept going and he came after me! Thankful a neighbor was with me, because he chased me down. I told neighbor we just need to go back to the Police Station across from his Shop. When I made a right turn to turn around, he came around my drivers side and tried running me off the road in my mother's new car! I cut across the road into a parking lot and he did a U-turn in the middle of the road, blocked me in the lot, and jumped out yelling. I cracked my window and told him I was calling the Police and he left. I made the Report but just let it go because he knew where I lived. Some things like this are best letting go. Most all don't know, if you have a major dispute w/ a mechanic you can; not pay the bill, file a Police report, and go to the Shop w/ the Police and get your car. Which gives the mechanic the option to dispute in Court. You can then file Complaint w/ The Dept if Agriculture. I got over 2K back from a mechanic doing this. I had changed the transmission fluid hoping it would resolve an issue, but it didn't. He didn't rebuild my trans as ordered, but swapped my trans w/ another and the other trans was leaking, mine never leaked. When I left his Shop it struggled shifting, so I knew I had a problem. I also had a photo of the stamped housing number of my old transmission. Tho I took it to a different Shop and had them document that it was leaking. Because I used my Debt Card to pay the bill, I did have to dispute the charge w/ my Bank for documentation for on the dispute, and it worked.

Hi Christine your show I don't know how you do it must be tough you seem to enjoy it. Just one note I also own a Chevy Equinox just like yours keep up the maintenance on this vehicle. Mine is a 2015 I was told to keep an eye on the oil these motors 2.4 liter engines can start burning oil not trying to scare you or anything. I was told by a mechanic they weren't the most reliable engines Chevy made. Mine does not burn oil goes to a little between oil changes. But other than that it runs just fine. Stay safe out there
@ChristineMeachum Жыл бұрын
This is a good tip! Thank you for sharing! I check my oil often as I do not want to loose an engine over not monitoring this.
@footballfan777111 ай бұрын
Mine was one of the unlucky ones that had the mystery oil consumption I would use 4 quarts a month then I realized there was a recall so if you experience excessive oil use call the dealer and ask if there is a recall. Sadly though even after a complete teardown and rebuild it started burning oil again the same day that my warranty on the rebuild expired. Definitely call the dealer though you might get lucky and have better luck with your rebuild.

I like your spreadsheet , So I guess you have a savings account to draw off of for expenditures, or your still doing some work online for income? With car insurance and phone service I am guessing your close to a 1,000$ month in expenses especially if you were to prorate the car repairs over 12 months. Btw I subscribed.

I really don't get this. I don't work but I go swimming daily, i travel when I want, no bill pressures and I actually live in a nice villa and not my car! And that's because I spent like 30 years working, THEN you get the rewards. If you don't work when you're young, you're really cutting yourself off when you're too old to work, unless of course you have lots of money and then it doesn't matter what you do. :)
