Alex's physique is proof how a well developed chest can make your physique look. If you look at other muscles, I'd say they're average but the the chest genes make his physique look insane.

A lot of high intensity training principles here. I train very similarly. My volume is a lot lower due to time constraints, so I compensate by cranking up the intensity. But I love that you found what works for YOU. So many never see results because they won't do the work that it takes to try everything and find their sweet spot

If you want some good size to accompany those aesthetics I would recommend incorporating some big compound lifts into your routine. You are only shortchanged yourself. Back and legs and important as well. I spent a few years myself as a chest and arms bro. Eventually you will regret not making the gains from those exercises and will see some imbalances most likey. Just trying to help.
@markratcliffe3530

Most of Alex's words are wise, but the reality is that he would've probably developed exactly the same physique by integrating different training methods into his routines due to his genetics. You can't train to look like somebody else. The best that you can do is identify and utilise your own genetics in order to develop your body. In regards to training principles, there's nothing wrong with instinctive training, but I do feel that working within rep range makes more sense than either aiming for a specific number, such as 12 reps, or not tracking your reps at all. Be careful with pre-exhaustion techniques. They can be beneficial for developing neurological connection between the central and sematic nervous systems if you're struggling to "feel" certain exercises (mind-muscle connection), but they can apply more tension to the tendons than necessary, and it's the tendons that need to be looked after the most.

It’s so confusing because you have guys like Chris Bumstead, Ryan Humiston, Derek, and many others that say time and time again that Bro Splits are the best, but then there’s still many people that build great physiques on completely different splits. For me I think I’ve come to the conclusion that at the end of the day, all of the different splits work as long as you know what you’re doing.

I’ve been training since I was 14, pretty much 5+ days a week and I’m 31 now. The one body part I’ve never been able to grow is my chest until recently. I’ve always been a 5 sets of 8-12 per exercise when I do chest (usually totaling 30 sets) but I just could not get my chest to grow in proportion to rest of my body. It’s a glaring weak point. This past October I trained with a buddy who is purely a power lifter and completely flipped the script. In my almost 20 years of training experience, I was able make some key adjustments to my form on bench press. Putting some heavier weight on the bar also helped me make a better mind/muscle connection. I’ve since gone from doing 5 sets of 8-10, to 12 sets of 3-4. I usually only take a 60 second break on my stop watch between sets, and although it takes longer, my body has responded really well to this. I can only speak on my experience, but so much of what we do should be tailored to suit your body. Sure, borrow exercises from others, learn the basics of how to put together a proper split/routine by copying someone, but always pay attention to what your body is telling you. Great work man, you’ve achieved an impressive physique in your young age. Don’t get tempted to hop on the sauce. Remember, it’s a marathon.

İf you don't track your reps how tf you're gonna do progressive overload. And one more thing , Depending on instinct and going to the gym when you feel like it , it doesn't gonna work out for lot of people cuz our brain is programmed to do what is easy not hard if you don't push yourself and not being disciplined again how tf you're gonna make gains . ( I mean I don't say this to Alex clearly he is looking on his way and I am sure his disciplined but I do think his way is not gonna work out for majority of the people )

When it comes to weightlifting and training for lean mass gain. Its all about learning to listen to your body and paying attention to your ability to progressively overload. Everyone is different, so like alex says, his workout may work for you, although it may not be the most optimal. Learning to listen to your body on how much to eat, how much to lift, how often to lift, and when to rest is a lesson that takes years to learn. But when you do learn how to truly listen to your body, any physique is obtainable.

loved this vid, was very informal and eye opening. I would usually train 4-5 sets of 10 reps, and have around 6-8 workouts following a push, pull, legs split. The concept that caught my eye was focusing more of my movement, along with having a comfortable weight (heavy enough/but not to light) that I can work until failure. Shorter workouts and increasing the volume of my workouts, while listening to my body rather than planning out rest days was a good reminder.

It does actually matter, also your bone structure. I'm a broad chest man, thin wrists, 1 inch maybe less between forearm and bicep, huge legs but that's because I was severely overweight, now I'm just overweight, which is dropping, by the end of of next year I'll actually be in really good shape, I'm in the 260. Almost there I know a couple of good months to go but it's going(actually kind of fast really while building muscle.) I have so much more gains, man I can't even think 6 months ago I was 360 couldn't walk. Now I'm doing about 4 hours(sometimes 5) in the gym Almost every day. Given a few more years I'll look beyond hot. I'm filling out my chest, and biceps, keeping restiance training on my legs, and core.

I started to train without following anyone cause everyone said different and i didn't know who was right so i just followed my body, doing as much as i could at a certain time, doing only the exercises i felt gave me pump and not following programs as if my body was made in a ensemble machine and care about numbers. Every month i'm able to lift more and better than the last, my body looks much better and going to the gym have been surprisingly fun vs all the disciplined routines people have preached on me and put me off before.

Yo, honestly huge advice. Recently I've been following specific routines for "optimal" growth but this video made me realize that somebodies routine is not going to work for everybody. I have been having trouble feeling mind muscle connections with some chest and back exercises and this made me realize I should stop doing them and do ones that feel great for me.

I agree with all your points man. Especially not picking a “rep range” when I stopped picking rep ranges I found I trained so much harder. People hone in on a rep range and stop too soon and train half ass.

Really liked this video, can take a lot away about the training from instinct, i am going to try that because it has been hard to do the exact reps, sets etc. every day and take planned rest days. thanks alot!

I also don't count reps. I instead chase eccentric failure.

I think what you were explaining, makes perfect sense, and it’s exactly how I have started training based on how my body feels. Sometimes I go to hard in the gym I need like two days to recover. Sometimes I don’t go hard enough but I can go to the gym the exact next day, I totally get what you’re saying dog great video to great work

Hey Man, I've been loving your videos, getting a PT cert is awesome, its not like essential but it always helps to learn more! I think training intuitively is awesome, but for newby lifters if they just don't know what to do following a program is a great way to get started. loved the video, DO a meet in greet in Utah! There's a few of us out here.

Im 16 and just getting into lifting and you have played a major part in my want to lift. Your video about your life story really inspired me because i relate to the majority of things you talked about. I love the fact that you are so open about your relationship with God, there arent enough content creators like that. hope you have a great day! God Bless.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this, he says his routine is basically push, pull, legs, arms and repeat and rest when needed. Is going straight from arms to push not overtraining triceps? Like surely you’d have to rest after doing arms before smashing triceps again?🤔 fairly new to this so just wondering😅

You are not damaging the muscles when training. That is very old "knowledge". They saw damaging in the muscles in rats, and thought, hey then that must mean that it occurs in humans. It is not. We know that since like 10 years back.

Agree. That old model has been pretty much disproven by now. But it was quite the dogma a couple decades back. Makes you wonder what dogmas of today will later be disproven?

Boys, stop eating so much protein! Make sure you're not skipping on carbs. You only need around 1.2 - 1.8 grams for kg of bodyweight unless you're a full time athlete

I disagree with the chose your rest days partially. I’d say plan your few rest days. Maybe 1 a week. But if you feel you can go on that rest day then do it. But that means you better hit every workout till your next scheduled workout. This is so you can instill discipline, when you don’t feel like going to the gym but it’s something you SHOULD do because it was scheduled, then you should go

Well done bro , you're doing amazing , actually there is a different points of view about each one's workout program , I always consider building muscles as tricks , sometimes you don't have to lift too much or work too hard to build muscles, building muscles is an art and you're giving a very good example of it.

@@ReubenPastrami the best workout is when you listen to your body and see which best workout that it suits your body. to be honest I don't lift a lot my max on chest incline and the dicline is 50 kg 60 kg on some machine I do deeps mainly My chest is well trained My back is getting better especially after the 2 exercises that I concentrate on so much pull down and pull ups

Personally, I have always been considerate of doing training till failure but I have found rep ranges are my favorite. I am only 13 and do an 8-12 rep range but it is very beneficial to finding a good weight. 7 and below is to heavy and if I can rep more than 12 it’s to light. I’m just letting you know my opinion, not counter arguing going till failure. Thank you for these tips and bringing us great weekly content!
