The fact that I was an infant when 9/11 happened makes my perspective on it drastically different than even kids only 2-3 years older than I am. Since I don't remember this, 9/11 feels like an eternity ago to me, like it might as well have been as long ago as World War II. As a result, the constant fear about terror and the middle east doesn't effect me as much, which I hope will make people my age more rational decision makers when the time comes for us to come to power.

I think you downplay the economic costs of the Iraq and Afghanistan war. Yes the economic crisis would still have occurred, but it would have left the USA in a much better shape to deal with it. Also the Arabian spring would still have occurred, but a stable Iraq under Hussein might have impacted the situation in Syria.

Paintedawg I'll assume you're right, but I don't see how that's relevant. The war still had to be funded by the U.S.A. government. If he didn't pay for it by raising taxes then that leaves two possibilities. 1. Other expanses were cut, less money went to projects that could have improved the education, health care, fiscal health, infrastructure etc etc. 2. He borrowed it, leaving debt for the next generation / administration. Neither of those are really what you want. In fact as a rule I'd say that raising taxes during a war is a solid policy. It's clearly an emergency, and any nation willing to send their soldiers to the battlefield to kill and be killed ought to be willing to also pay an extra dime for it.

If 9/11 hadn't happened, I'd be able to keep my shoes on at the airport, the DHS and the TSA wouldn't have existed (not that we need them now), pizza boxes wouldn't be advertising for TSA employees, we never would have sent so many good men and women to fight and die for over a decade for something that could have been won in a year or two tops. We wouldn't have men damaged physically and psychologically by trying to kill terrorist scum and free villages from the Taliban only to see it given up to their enemies right after President Obummer told them to leave it. Good soldiers wouldn't have been persecuted by doing their jobs and then have the brass (from the wrong side of the looking glass) have them court martialed for murder (see the story of Michael Behenna for more).

I feel like so much more could've been done on this topic. One of the biggest differences would be the security levels we see today. If 9/11 had gone just like any other day, there wouldn't be such a huge spike in security, or in today's world, invasion of privacy. Security today would probably be much lower than in our timeline. Security levels would still rise, but over time and to a lesser degree. If the 9/11 attacks didn't occur, I suspect that there wouldn't be TV shows hosted by the NSA justifying the invasion of their people's privacy for the sake of "protection".

I watched the 9/11 attack happen when I was 4, because my parents didn't believe in hiding me from reality. They were always taught that things do happen and my parents gave it to me as a learning experience. The world is a harsh place, and you can never expect the unexpected. An odd anecdote: I was ten years old and in late elementary school when 9/11 happened. We had like these Time Magazines for Kids or something that presented current events in ways we could understand them, and naturally 9/11 would have been one of the topics shortly after. Between the attacks and the school magazines, the world got a little bigger for me as we would’ve read about the terrorists hailing from the Middle East and our troops being sent to fight them. I particularly remember reading the country named “Afghanistan” and having a hard time pronouncing it out loud. If 9/11 didn’t happen, my knowledge of international geography might have expanded sometime later.

I WISHED that 9/11 NEVER happened. It started out as another regular day, that ended in terror. If 9/11 NEVER happened, we would see the Twin Towers in movies today. Movies like the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, imagine the Twin Towers standing during the first Avengers movie, and the recent Spider-Man movies. Maybe the final battle in No Way Home would’ve had three Spider-Men fighting off The Lizard, Electro, Sandman, and the Green Goblin would’ve been set in the World Trade Center Towers. Yes, we can see then in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, but I would’ve LOVED seeing the Twin Towers today. Also, I had the pleasure to seeing the 9/11 Memorial with the Twin Tower prints, and the Freedom Tower. If 9/11 never happened, I would’ve been visiting the original Twin Towers.

Also there probably would have been another terrorist attack on the towers. The reason is because I've read that the terrorists were determined to bring them down and 9/11 was done partially because the 1993 bombing plot failed, the towers didn't topple onto each other as planned which would have been way worse. So most likely, there would have been a different kind of an attack.
