Hi, great question! The smaller the better, so while placing your back panel you still have to utilize as much cloth space as possible to make this attachment narrower. I would say, when finished the triangle better be rougly 6-8 cm wide, depending on a cut and size of trousers.

I'd use your best judgement. No hard limit, obviously, but some prefer to avoid using one in a new pair at all.
