The sudden disappearance of ice would drastically alter ecosystems both in Antarctica and around the globe. Species adapted to cold climates, such as penguins, seals, and krill, would face existential threats as their habitats disappear. Meanwhile, the influx of freshwater from the melting ice would affect ocean salinity, which in turn would disrupt marine ecosystems, particularly plankton and fish populations that form the base of the food chain. This could have a cascading effect on global biodiversity, with widespread extinctions across both marine and terrestrial species.

@@countryfucius Not nearly as much, since the weight of the added water is spread out over an enormous surface encompassing all oceans, and the earth's crust that makes up the oceanic plates is much more dense and already 'condensed' under the existing weight in comparison with the continental plates that make up the 'dry land' parts of the globe. That's also why in tectonic subduction, oceanic plates always go underneath their continental counterparts and never the other way around.

Im a little skeptical about ancient viruses posing a big problem... For example, we already have a built-up immune system that basically has all the resistances to all the older viruses in the past. We get new virus-based sicknesses because new viruses change by mutating An ancient one would likely already be immune for us because it was frozen for such a long time it would essentially be undeveloped for so long it would probably be way too far behind to be threatening because its not new enough.
