I once played blazblue. When I started I had the option to use auto combos. After playing for a few months I started playing with regular controllers. So much more fun and I wish fighting games had this option

Guilty Gear Xrd did this. There’s Technical mode where you control the character yourself and Stylish mode where you have easy auto combos however there’s a drawback to make it fair. Stylish players take more damage and their DPs aren’t invulnerable so you’re more offensive but less defensive which I find super smart!

Usually when talking about a thing in a fighting game that is meant to lower the barrier to entry, the first game that comes to my mind is Fantasy Strike. Whether or not you like the game, I feel most people can agree that it's kinda the gold standard for easy yet deep gameplay. The way that this game tends to handle combos is by letting you cancel into a special move. The important thing here is that specials are one button moves in this game. Now, I'm not saying that fighting games should all have one button specials, there is a good reason they exist. But being able to cancel a lower priority move into a higher one is kinda cool. Now that I think about it, that's literally just gatlings in Guilty Gear... Either way, it gives the satisfaction of doing an actual combo with minimal execution, while also discouraging mashing and potentially inspiring new players to see what other button combinations work (ie, labbing stronger combos). And no, auto combos should not be in brawlhalla. The point of an auto combo is that it makes the new player look cool while providing significantly lower reward than a "real" combo. The issue on brawl is that true combos are almost always 2 hits only, meaning that any auto combo is edging rather close to the optimal reward. Also, on weapons that have no practical true combos, you would be making an entire new one, which is very broken. Getting true combos off a move that you previously could not tends to lead to some very broken stuff in brawl, like blasters nlight nair and gauntlets dlight nair rec.

I think that for more traditional fighters like kof, tekken, dbfz, and street fighter auti combos arent too bad of an idea, because inputting buttons in those games is usually harder than plat fighters. But for platfighters, i think rapid jabs is as far as auto combos can go because of the simpler and more universal input move system.

Guns in this case should absolutely not get dlight dair, thats one of the few combos where you actually need any execution in this game and it sets up for either a recovery kill/damage option or another sair/dair. Dlight Slight maybe?

I dont think this would work for Brawlhalla. I do think auto combos are a good optional feature for more people to enjoy fighting games. But Brawlhalla is a platformer fighter, not a 2D fighter. Most of the combos you came up with are things novice players do instantly. The first thing a BH player learns, is that one attack connects to another. (Say, DLight, NLight in bow). And now that new player will start to use this combo each time they connect an DLight. Its until further playing until they realize they have other options, like, for example, going for an AirNlight or a Sig. Automating the combo (DL to NL) only makes the player even MORE oblivious that they have other options. Makes the attack seem like its a two part instead of a separate attack, and keeps them from trying to do something in that window that nothing happened before. Also, in platform fighters, unlike 2D fighters, it really doesnt matter a lot with what you attack. If you are able to break neutral, most BH new to average players will fish for the same combo they optimized the most, even if its predictable. Autocombos would only delay or stop players from optimizing at all, if the game does it for them reliably. Specially those that gravity cancel for you.

Honestly, the game doesn't particularly NEED auto combos even though i really like the way you suggested them here. BMG really just needs to up their tutorial game. Pretty sure you already made a video on this, but here's a small addition to better tutorials for new players. Having the first thing pop up when you enter the game be a popup saying, "Would you like to enter training mode immediately?" or something like that with the options of yes, no, and a small box to tick that stops the message from ever popping up again. Selecting yes would take you straight to the tutorial line, teaching you from there. No would simply set you off on your own in the main menu to figure things out as you like.

There are aleays two other players who are just about on your level and then another (who is most likely a depressed gold, I mean let's be honest here) who completely destroys the lobby. FFA isn't really a great way to start, in my humble totally non-biased opinion.

Agreed that they should just fully rework tutorial mode. One thing I'd love to see is using the opportunity to express the personality of the legends in brawlhalla. For example, lin fei being canonically a martial arts teacher would make her an excellent candidate for explaining the basics. Maybe just have Petra in there to just flippantly asking why not just try to smash your opponent with your strongest attacks, which could segue into how to wiff punish. Just stuff like that.

I remember in brawlhalla before playing cannon but playing against it, I thought the n light was a hit and then the opponent would just do an aerial after, but after I picked it up for myself, the n light is 2 hits normally. In my eyes, it felt like an auto combo basically cause it carry's them far, does good damage, and is 2 pretty distinct hits

I don't think brawlhalla should have auto combos, but maybe they could do what MKXI did Which is basically stringing your inputs, if you press two buttons with no regard to timing the game will execute the second attack right after the first one is over, making it easier to do combos

KOF player here and i kinda like how XIV/XV have handled autocombos. as of XV they give the new player a bit more freedom in how to end it if they know to mash a little less but if they're just hammering square they'll dump all their meter into their strongest super to end it, which oftentimes might be the worst decision (the opponent's blocking, they're closing out a round on a very low-health opponent and they put themselves in a disadvantage). not only that but like you brought up, the autocombo is very rarely optimal--i can name maybe two or three characters in the last two games where their autocombo is their best option from a light starter--so while it sucks getting caught out by them it's ultimately harmless. being unable to turn them off sucks but i think is also fair as a penalty for people whose inputs need to be cleaner. it encourages less mashing in my opinion. overall my only problem with them is that it's demoralizing getting hit by newbie shit but that's what you get for not getting good 😔

Auto combos are quite literally already in the game. Greatsword is the same as any other "usual" fighting game combat style. You have "auto combos" like nlight nlight or more "difficult" but rewarding nlight dlight nlight (for example). Not talking about the infinites (using other fighting game terms) with chase dodge and dash. I thought you would talk about it in the video... Also the video is really entertaining and i love the fighting game genre, that was just my thoughts on the fact that auto combos already exist

@@CrabGuyy combo in Brawlhalla is an undodgeable succession of attacks, infinite combo isn't hard if you're used to do it, it's jumpable, so it's not really infinite, and it's not like other fighting games because you need dash cancel, which is a property of greatsword in brawlhalla

@@ST-in7fo the term "combo" is different for each fighting game, some game don't even have dodges. What combo (or "combination") are in a lot of fighting game is just a rapid succession of attacks. Thats what this video is talking about, i obviously know what a combo is in brawlhalla but its not the same as what he is talking in the video. Most of the "auto combos" showed for brawlhalla are not even true

Instead of auto combos I would love to see weapons with active imputs it would make the game More agressive Actually playing scythe and gs Is fun because people dont usually now your next move and these are so weak up weapons Meanwhile with weapons that every move hits as it should be getting kind of boring to play like hammer, Axe, gaunts and spear They all be realing on combos instead of reads and an active imputs or differents ways to hit the person to decide if he Will go up and down would be the way to make those weapons unpredictable

Because auto combos are like using with a gun with better aim but horribly bad damage. Auto combos are only good for getting new players introduced to the game, they will still get bodied if they can’t do manual combos. Also not every fighting game has auto combos

Auto combos are better. Being OP doesn't define how you play it. People get bored because they're being reactive too much so it's better just to cool off. The bottom line is that veteran or old players don't use much of their brain to use new and unfamiliar combos and are likely will force you to do the hard way, so it's time for other players to have a chance to use thier mind and instinct for once. Take time to think man, it's just like how you perform in school, with actual Math.
