The rivalry between England and France defined the geopolitics of Western Europe and even the entire planet for centuries. The battle for global domination between these two mighty empires would be the catalyst for countless wars. For this reason it is worth looking back to when this rivalry began. And to where it almost ended before it could even start. The 100 years war. When the crowns of England and France were almost unified under one man. Today we ask, what if Edward the third of England was successful in his conquest of France, pressing his claim to the crown of france and unifying the two kingdoms. What if England had conquered france.

Interesting idea, Usually when youtubers do a "what if England won the Hundred years war" timeline it starts with John of Arc never saving the siege of Orleans (at least from what I have seen), so having a timeline start with Edward the third Conquering France instead is an interesting way to change it up.

That is a fantastic video, Mr. TAA1. With England and France united, we could mostly see a more enormous British Empire but more imperial with the Plantagents invading Germany and expanding into some territories. I still have some questions so far. Why there be an Emperor of the Agvein Empire with both England and France united? Because in our original timeline with the British Isles united, some nobles in the British parliament suggested a British Emperor should be. However, George III declined the offer because he wanted to keep the tradition of being king. I could imagine the Agevin Kingdom becoming the Angevin Empire with the conquest of Scotland and Ireland being into England and France's hands much earlier. There would be an Agevin Emperor, and seeing an imperial dynasty rival Hapburgs would be fascinating. Also, could the Agvein Empire could invade Iberia before Spain was united, for there are some alternate history videos where the Plantagents expanded their realms into Spain with the Spanish Hapburgs went extinct, and could the Angevin Empire use that opportunity to invade Iberia not being united. But so far, this is an excellent alternate history video, my friend, and please keep up the great work and always look on the bright side and never sight of who you are! I would love to see a part of this, for I wanted to know how this empire did well in the modern century.

England was well on its way of Gallicizing under Plantagenet rule. Just didn't finished because the decline of Plantagenet holdings in France and less French recruits and nobles utilized. England had large French cultural influence and immigration, if England and France was the same country, England would be as apart of France as Corsica is. And perhaps the rest of British isles.

There's a problem with your Habsburg scenario. The Habsburgs inherited Flanders through the Burgundian inheritance. The Duchy of Burgundy was created by the son of the imprisoned king of France, Jean II. With Edward III becoming king of France, Philip wouldn't have been able to secure marriage with the Flemish count's daughter in 1369, who had to have the French king help him suppress Flemish revolts. Thus the Habsburgs and the Burgundian duchy wouldn't have existed. Meaning the Habsburgs wouldn't have owned the richest place on the continent (Flanders). This would have been the first, and most important in my opinion, impact of Edward III winning the war. Flanders were technically part of the French kingdom, and tied to the English by trade. They would have remained French under your premise. Basically, it's unlikely that the Netherlands would ever have existed and they played quite a major role in the world.

Here is an exciting idea for a future alternate history scenario that is original and nobody has done before: What if the Ottomans under Selim I, known as the Grim, had conquered and annexed all of Persia? Seilm the First was considered a good leader, the best Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, and a well-military commander, but he was a short-lived and fierce adversary towards the Sasfvaids who ruled Persia. If Seilm the First had lived, could he lead a campaign to invade Persia, and if the Ottomans had been successfully conquering Persia, what would change significantly, and how this impact the Ottoman Empire with Perisa now as part of their new province? Would it be possible for Beys to govern Persia, how mighty would the Ottoman Empire be with the annexation of Perisa, and what would they do in the future? What do you think of that idea, Mr. That Annoying American 1? What are your thoughts, opinions, and comments about this idea?

Whats most likely is eventually something like what happened with britain and hannover would happen, where different succession laws would split the kingdoms. Matter of fact it's extremely likely that this would happen the exact same way as with Britain and hannover, especially if the wars of the roses still happens and the tudor dynasty comes to power, as this could easily lead to mary the first inheriting england and some distant male relative inheriting france.

while i like this, i find it unlikely that england becomes a satellite kingdom. by the time of edward iii, a national identity was already forged with a more english flavor to it through edward i and iii. while i don’t think it changes the early outcomes, i think it equalizes the two realms a bit more which opens up a pathway to eventual english independence especially if the court centers in Paris. i’d say the best way england stays as a satellite realm is if the plantagenet empire solidifies under Henry I in the late 12th century and defeats the House of Capet edit: there is also a chance a more northern european ethnic identity in the anglo-saxon group emphasizes with the Reformation more due to language. English is not a Romance language the way French is and I think that would make England more Protestant than a Plantagenet Empire

I like this thought. Though I think a good candidate to unite the crowns of England and France would be Louis VIII of France. King John's of England death is what united barons behind King Henry III or his regent, we could say and recisnd their offer to Louis VIII. I think if we say John survived his dysntery, Louis could reasonably conquer England. While I think the outcome would be similar that Great Britan and Ireland would be conquered. I feel that Capetian would have an even more colonist and absolutist to England, Wales, Soctland and Ireland and promote more French. I also feel that the French would take Aragonese lands fueing the crusade aganist the Cathars, and perhaps a Capetian French king marrys Isabella of Castile, or take Castile and Portugal by force. Colonization might not be so much a competion between fedul rulers and competition between cultures. All the same. Neat idea!

I feel like the English would want to move across the ocean more to escape the overbearing French, leading to more independence sentiment in the New World while the French prefered to stay in the Old World. I also feel like the English would try to break free during the era of nationalism, as Scotland was mostly not successful because of it's smaller population while England and France would have relatively comparable populations.

They would have control of Spain to boot since the fall of the Hapsburgs would still happen and it isn't hard to believe the will of the Last Hapsburg Spanish King would be similar to the one in our timeline but instead of a Bourbon, it is a Plantagenet since it was the King of France that the King of Spain wrote his will towards and who is the King of France in this new timeline? It is also possible the Plantagenet King of France would had achieved greater success during the War of Burgundian Succession and so France would likely due to increase English forces with the added benefit of Welsh, Breton, Scottish (which is likely to be conquered) and Irish (also likely to be conquered) forces take all of the Burgundian lands which means the Netherlands, Belgium, Greater Luxembourg, and Burgundy proper (not just French Burgundy) would be parts of France. This also means Dutch, French, English and Spanish colonies would all belong to the Plantagenet Crown. As France+Netherlands+Belgium+England+Scotland+Ireland+Wales fight on Portugal's behalf before Spain, it is likely Portugal would never get annexed by Spain. Therefore, Portugal would still exist as an independent realm, although how long its colonies would last are anyone's bet, but I believe it would retain its original colonial holdings and it would play some major butt kissing to the Plantagenet Crown to keep it that way. Effectively France's puppet in all but name. Trastamara would not had subdued the Kingdom of Castile in the Castilian Civil War which means the House of Castile would still be in play prior to it dying out and via marriage being replaced with the Hapsburgs which still would had happened. The Barbary Crusade would had been an English Victory with Algeria and Tunisia being conquered earlier. In fact, Tripolitania which was under Hafsid control would also be part of this Greater France. The Battle of Nicopolis would have ended much the same, but with Ottomans sustaining more casualities and being worse off as a result. Old Zürich War would end with a French Victory and the Imperial City of Zurich retaining its disputed lands and being independent for the time being of the Old Swiss Confederacy. The Duchy of Milan would also become French. Catalan Civil War would end the same. Mad War would end the same. French-Breton War would end the same. The First Italian War would end with a French Victory and the acquisition of Naples. Second Italian War wouldn't happen as Milan is already part of France. Third Italian War also unlikely to happen, but if it did Spain would have to give up Sardinia. War of the League of Cambrai would still be a French Victory and France would had made the Papal States a vassal, effectively connecting Milan to Naples. Italian War of 1521-1526 would result in a French Victory and forcing the Holy Roman Empire to give up its hold over Northern Italy, effectively solidifying what wasn't Venice, Sardinia and Sicily as part of France at least for now. War of the League of Cognac would be a French Victory and Spain giving up Sicily. In the Italian War of 1536-1538, France would acquire the Balearic Islands. In the Italian War of 1542-1546, France would acquire what is left of Further Austria. In the Italian War of 1551-1559, France would acquire the title of Holy Roman Emperor. This is the last Italian War. Austria doesn't have any lands close enough to France it could acquire and effectively control. So the only thing France could acquire is the title itself and the German Princes probably would allow it since the Hapsburgs have lost so many times. This effectively makes the Hapsburg Crown a vassal of France, which would probably start calling itself the French Holy Roman Empire, emphasizing the Superiority of France and the fact they already have the Pope as a vassal. We'll still call it France. Anglo-French War (1557-1559) wouldn't happen. English expedition to France (1562-1563) wouldn't happen. War of the Portuguese Succession would be a victory for the Portuguese in maintaining their independence in name only since they would be firmly under the heel of France instead of integrated into Spain. Franco-Spanish War of 1595-98 wouldn't happen not because Spain is now part of France (it isn't), but rather because the Netherlands are part of France. Franco-Savoyard War (1600-1601) probably would still happen, but this would be a vassal having its lands taken from it. War of the Jülich Succession would result in a French victory with a total Catholic Victory as France is Catholic. Brandenburg and Palatinate-Neuburg would lose their lands. Therefore, no Prussia. Valtellina War would not happen. First Savoyard-Genoese War would not happen. Anglo-French War (1627-1629) would not happen. War of the Mantuan Succession would occur the same. Thirty Years War would be a French Victory with Bohemia, the Palatinate, Heilbronn, Brunswick-Lüneburg, Hesse-Kassel, and Saxony being integrated. Denmark-Norway and Sweden being forced to convert back to Catholicism. Franco-Spanish War would result in a French Victory with Modena and Reggio being integrated. Roussillon would be annexed all the same. Artois is already part of France. Portuguese Restoration War would not happen as Portugal is already "independent." Savoyard-Waldensian wars would be the French-Waldensian Wars and would end with the Waldensians being stamped out brutally. Austro-Turkish War (1663-1664) would be a French-Austrian Victory with Austria acquiring Transylvania as including the Kingdom of Hungary. Second Anglo-Dutch War would not happen. War of Devolution would be a French Victory with Gilbraltar and Spanish North Africa going to France. Franco-Dutch War would be a French Civil War or Dutch Rebellion in France. It would end with Lorraine being integrated. War of the Reunions would not happen. French conquest of Senegal happens pretty much the same. French-Algerian War 1681-88 would not happen as Algiers is already part of France. Siamese Rebellion of 1688 would result in the Prasat Thong Dynasty continuing as a French Puppet in Thailand. Nine Years' War wouldn't happen as Netherlands and England are part of France and France is the HRE. French and Iroquois Wars would conclude with the complete defeat of the Iroquois. War of the Spanish Succession would end with Spain and Spanish colonies being annexed by France.

@@ThatAnnoyingAmericanhat might be true but i think the other guy definitely has a point. With Britain abolishing the parliament like you pointed it out i assume the nobles hold on to their power way more comfortably and for way longer thus preventing the rise of any real merchant class. a low intensitiy but longer lasting war against the habsburgs would also be tremendiously expensive and slow growth considerably. Taxes wpuld most probably collected from the non nobles without representation. As rulers back then already knew- dont tax these that benefit most from keeping you in power...Still applies today. slight nudge at the american mega- billionaires. ;D The average citicen would be comparable poor and any non noble investment would most probably be a group effort by a larger group of lesser nobles with a more open mindset or a massive project like the dust east indies company where everyone could dump his last dime in hope for a good return of investment A company like the english east india company would most probably never come into existance or way later as a strong monarchy would see little reason in giving away power to some merchantmen without noble blood that could treaten its status and less wealthy businessmen overall due to the conservative economy Just some thoughts. If Edward III gets the crown of France in the 1360's why does Edward the Black Prince pre-decease his father? I think Edwards succeeds his father, and is in turn succeeded by his son Richard.
