Tom is a natural HW and has speed, strength and youth, Jones is a bit bloated for a HW, lacks power and speed BUT has the best skills. Here is the thing. Jon Jones is a great strategist and an analytical fighter. He studies extensively and breaks down the patterns of his opponents. And one of the reasons he won't fight Aspinall is because this aspect is almost taken out of the equation. Aspinall cant really be studied thoroughly because he finishes everyone so fast. Jon doesn't like his chances against him and therefore he avoids the fight. Also being the absolute egomaniac that he is he cant fathom giving someone the chance to beat him despite the fact he himself was given these same chances at the beginning of his career.

Kicks definitely aren't equal, and Tom has not fought better opponents. Other than a puncher's chance, Tom has no way to beat Jones. Plus Jones has a 6 1/2 inch reach advantage, it won't be easy for Tom to get close enough for a ko. Jones would eventually get him down and stay on him.

How do you not include fight IQ in this? That’s the greatest thing about Jones which is why it wasn’t put into the equation in the first place. Just new fan bias towards a relatively newer fighter. But Jon will win over whoever he fights because he is the smartest fighter in the octagon. And saying that his win over Reyes was a robbery is a bit harsh. If anything it was even. Aspinall’s swarming style of fighting would present serious problems for Jones. Jones typically does not shine with these types of fighters. Alexander Gustafsson 1 and Dominick Reyes come to mind. Both fighters gave Jones trouble and are really good examples imo of Aspinall’s fighting style. If Jones and Aspinall do fight, expect to see a dirty fight from Jones. Lots of eye pokes.

I think it’s so crazy to just say Tom by knockout at #1. I think it’s most likely that it would be Jon by submission easily. Jon is not going to stand and box Tom. Jones has also proven time and time that he has an elite chin and damage resistance. So, if standup did occur Jon would hold his own in my opinion. Lastly, Jon has always been a volume fighter. Not a power guy. He’s extremely rangey and has elite cardio. Tom hasn’t shown us his cardio levels and really has never been truly tested. Anyone that thinks Tom would run through Jon is smooth brained for sure. I would definitely lean 70% Jon - 30% Tom on likelihood to win. Definitely a fight I would love to see. I like both fighters as a fan of the sport. I’ll concede that Tom is the bane of Jon. Long/Quick - Jon struggles with these builds. Dana! Pay Jon what he wants and make the fight worth it to him! Because at the moment I also can’t blame Jon for “ducking” the fight. Tom is a scary opponent and needs the compensation to match, givin Jones’s legacy.
