Graves wrote most of the music for AP and FM, so you're really getting into some "alternate timelines" trying to imagine what Hideous might have written with them.

I always miss the good shows. Myke said in his book that the Misfits were a stepping stone for him, but that was with the mindset of him being Michale’s replacement. He’s written a bunch of songs on the 98 tour at Jerry’s behest to be Misfits songs. When that didn’t work out, he released 3 or 4 of them with his own bands (trying to track those CDs down)

Was lucky enough to see Myke perform with the Misfits in Stuttgart (in 1998 I'd guess), when he filled in for Graves who left shortly before the tour. IMO Hideous was like 20 times more fitting than Graves, vocalwise but also in style and attitude. I firmly hoped that he'd stay with the band... they had a huge option here, but somehow didn't notice.
@xx7secondsxx3 жыл бұрын
Dude... if graves wasnt there, they wouldn't have hit the mark the way they did. They were bigger than they'd ever gotten. Made the crossover of a "cult" band instead of hitting the level they did. I mean on WCW n TV n stuff. Glenn coming back would've never worked. Would've lost danzig when they got into their best era (4-7) and they would've imploded. I saw at the show in O town at House of blues when the Misfits broke up. Couldn't believe it! I love vintage but the 90's n early 2000's fits were gold. Can't be touched! Its 2 different bands really. The Only Jerry fits.. yea, that blehhh. The live stuff that got out with Hideous.... he lived up to his name! It was too blehhh. Graves did an amazing job. No one could've filled those boots better

Both of their voices perfectly fit the dad metal sound that they were evolving from Kryst the Conqueror. I don’t think the albums would have been hugely different, except didn’t Graves write all or most of Dig Up Her Bones? If so, I’d miss that track, but I bet Hideous would have brought some neat stuff to the table to make up for it.

They made the right choice. Michale Graves was just a better singer / songwriter. Myke just didn't have the vocal chops. I've never heard anything too impressive by Empire Hideous...just my opinion. The "young and impressionable" aspect was definitely a contributing factor, but I think it all just comes down to the incredible talent that Michale was born with.

Myke Hideous would have given The Misfits the EDGE they needed at that time to be taken seriously again as a real act… instead, it became something nostalgic, more poppy & less dangerous than it was meant to be… Myke Hideous would have made it harder, darker… and better. He was already writing amazing gothic rock with his own band and had become one of the best live performers in that whole scene. Peter Steele personally asked him to come open for Type O, brought label guys to see Empire Hideous…that’s the level of talent of Myke Hideous.
