Amy taking steps of independence and owning up to her part in the mistake of time travel? Noice! In Canon, she was basically a damsel in distress, but here, she's an active participant. Maybe once Sonic gets to know her better and finds some happiness in his current time, he may actually attempt a relationship with Amy, regardless of if it succeeds or not. Sonic's not the one to leave something unventured at times.

No, Sonic didn't try using the Chaos Emeralds to go back, mainly because whenever he's actually got his hands on them, he's fighting Eggman and they scatter right after. So, he's never had his hands on them for long enough when he's not in the middle of something else. Really sorry that I didn't make that clearer.
