The Hawaiian word for humility is Ha'aha'a. My teacher taught the deeper understanding of it is "come empty". No preconceptions, no bias, no prejudice. Come empty to learn.

I agree the statement , But really like that the written Hawaiian looks like English laughter . I often have to stife the urge to laugh in the face of ARROGANCE , But it is never provoked by humility . Come empty my friends .

I googled how to pronounce this but it would only tell me how to pronounce aha. I already knew how to pronounce aha. At any rate, Ha'aha'a looks beautiful, and I know that it surely sounds beautiful....if I could just hear it.

@@christopherapel1712 I tried to reply before but keep getting error message. Erk! I agree it looks like laughter. If I try to write it by sound, it would come out like Ha ah Ha ah. Does that help? This is my favorite of the Aloha values. Come empty. What it would be like if a lot of us did that! Aloha!

Unfortunately, Pastor Ed, for many, their cruelty is the point. They dont care that certain segments fear them and stay away. They want to keep it that way. I never thought Id see such a mindset infect the church. It pains me to no end. But, I just try to live contrary to this mentality and bring some inclusion to my little sphere.

I have been striving to become pure love and, needless to say, haven’t been able to get close. I pray for guidance every day and this morning I heard ‘be kind and forgiving and humble and that will get you there’. Those things I know I am able to do. My heart is filled with hope and gratitude. Rev Ed & the CWW community are such a blessing of love and support. Thank you all.

I love and believe in Jesus Christ. Even if I have faith in him I cannot know. I must also acknowledge that I could be wrong. It is humbling to me to know this and I keep it in mind. While we cannot know that heaven is real we can know the joy of living as Christ asked us to and first love one another. God bless everyone.

I imagine it would be like when me and my TST group get together. We get together in coffee shops or a restaurant in Fargo called Brewster's Brickhouse and just have fun. Eat, drink, and be merry. We talk about how we're going to help our communities. One thing we're going to do is adopt part of the Red River to keep clean and even do Magnet Fishing in. We have a lot of fun together and teach eachother.

The sad thing, at least in America, is that Christianity has been co-opted by politicians and the corrupt. So when someone tells me they are a Christian, it feels like a warning that I am going to encounter lots of fear and hate, anger and aggression. So if I see a cross or a red ball cap, I stay clear. If these were MY sincerely-held religious beliefs that were sacred to me, I'd be most upset and speaking out about what is being done to it, and in the name of it. All we hear over here is crickets from those who truly believe. Ex-government employee Donald, the guy who has replaced Jesus in the US, declares that he is THE most humble person ever. Then again, he also says that he needs no forgiveness. I share your videos with Christians I know, in the hopes that it will inspire them to ACT like Christians. As it stands, they have to TELL everyone they're good people, for if they did not then we'd not even accidentally accuse them of it. The attitude of Christian supremacy has been harming me for the past 55 years of my life. During this time, I've been invited to church TWICE, both under false pretenses. One of them said it was "just an arts-and-crafts thing for kids." The abuse I endured is not something I will write about here, for it is horrific. Today, we have preachers who are calling for the execution of gay people and non-believers, among others. So thank you for the invitation. As a life-long Atheist, I find it heartening to hear a message of welcoming. American Christians have a lot to learn from you. They're certainly not learning anything from the bible. They can't be bothered to read it, but that's another story. I do my best to live a life of kindness, with a great deal of sympathy, empathy, and Humanity. And I don't do it under threat of punishment. I'd want someone to lift me up if I fall, and that is something that does not exist here in the self-declared "greatest country in the world." A Christian nation, as they say.

Thank you for such a thoughtful presentation of your thoughts I am a non-denominational Christian. As such, I am completely invested in three things.. 1 Jesus of Nazareth is my mentor: He is the human example that, as a human myself, I can relate to on a one to one basis and therefore work to emulate. I am not here to indoctrinate you, nor would I try or even ever feel that anyone can or should come to Christianity through anything but through their own volition. That being said, I feel that when one removes the "noise" of others and only hears the words of Jesus, one easily can see that Jesus was not about hate. In fact, Jesus spoke of only two commands of Christians, the second being "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." There is no hate in Jesus. For me, Christianity is only about "Love" Love of my neighbor and the love of God (the 1st of the two commands). Jesus also was clear that We are to leave judgment to God.. 2. My faith as a non-deniminational Christian maintains the knowledge that we, mortals, exist as body (that which our mortal parents molded) AND spirit, (the "lifeforce" which God assigns to us so that our bodies can be viable" ) Christ is the "Only begotten as Son of God" and was/is that lifeforce which provided Jesus the human with viability. Christ through God, the Father, is my Savior.. and my arbiter. Through Christ, my spirit will be repatriated back into eternal existence in God's Kingdom. 3. I worship one God.. The God of creation. My spirit's Father. God bless you. Regardless of the path you walk, you are loved and always welcone.. you are among friends of kindred spirits.

Hey Rev, Thanks again for a great message. I'm here in the US, and have people that wish for us to be a "Christian nation". When they say those words, I know that they mean that we need laws to make us follow their "Christian" strictures, but what invariably comes to my mind is a nation that does what you are wishing for "the Church" here. I hope that you will be able to continue spreading the message of love and understanding for as long as you find meaning in doing so.

You know, many many years ago, I was so frustrated with myself. That I begin to pray daily for God to make me act, the way he needed me to act, and talk the way he needed me to talk and so on and so forth. Because I just kept felling to be perfect. Several days later, God spoke to me and said, I don’t want you to be forced to be with me, I want you to choose me. In that moment I realized, God gave us free choice. He wants us to chose him, forcing someone is not a choice, and God knows it. So these Christian nationalist who think they can force someone in a relationship with God, doesn’t know God. I believe they are using God to gain power, I do not believe they want a Christian nation, they want a nation they can control. And anyone they can’t control, well I guess we will see what happens.

I'm reminded of the poem, part of which was quoted by King George VI during his 1939 Christmas radio broadcast: THE GATE OF THE YEAR 'God Knows' And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: "Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown". And he replied: "Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way". So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night. And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East. So heart be still: What need our little life Our human life to know, If God hath comprehension? In all the dizzy strife Of things both high and low, God hideth His intention. God knows. His will Is best. The stretch of years Which wind ahead, so dim To our imperfect vision, Are clear to God. Our fears Are premature; In Him, All time hath full provision. Then rest: until God moves to lift the veil From our impatient eyes, When, as the sweeter features Of Life's stern face we hail, Fair beyond all surmise God's thought around His creatures Our mind shall fill. -Minnie Louise Haskins (1875-1957)

Every trial doth attack man and every dire adversity doth assail him like unto the assault of a serpent. There is no shelter and asylum for him except under the wing of Thy protection, preservation, guard and custody. O Thou the Merciful One! O my Lord! Make Thy protection my armor, Thy preservation my shield, humbleness before the door of Thy oneness my guard, and Thy custody and defense my fortress and my abode. Preserve me from the suggestions of self and desire, and guard me from every sickness, trial, difficulty and ordeal. Verily, Thou art the Protector, the Guardian, the Preserver, the Sufficer, and verily, Thou art the Merciful of the Most Merciful. -‘Abdu’l-Bahá

I loved this message. It reminds me that I have a long way to go. I for a few years I have been watching the “I died and returned shows, videos and movies. The most common thread in all of them is an overwhelming feeling of being loved. Most do NOT want to return. Some have been dead 20 minutes or longer and buy all medical logic should be brain dead. But my main point is something Rev Ed talked about. How it might feel to be in a church where everyone is humble and full of gods love and only that! That would be amazing! As real people I see it not easy to get there. There are so many competing feelings. Competition, greed, jealousy, general biases, ambition, fear, so many things. So many things to overcome to be beyond all of those human traits. I have a very long way to go.

I keep thinking about how much kindness you send out to the World. And how easy it is for a giver to not fill their own cup sometimes. I found a clip on Facebook and thought of our conversation here. You may already know Januz Korczak, but he's a new name for me. Still his attitude towards children, that They "shall not be, but rather already are people" reminds me of how Jesus told US that to enter the Kingdom of Heaven we must become like little children. Children aren't born hating anyone for the color of their skin. Children are in awe of the simple things and when we see the day through their eyes a little bit of joy bubbles up in our hearts. Januz insisted he be taken with the children of the orphanage when Nazis moved it to the ghetto. And again when they were sent to the extermination camp. I fear if Trump is elected I (for one) will wind up in one of his concentration camps because my "shut up" button is broken. 😊 If I do, I will find the children and comfort, protect them as I can. I pray that this cup will pass, but my loyalty is to God first, then the Constitution. Anyone hands me a gold plated Trump loyalty pledge to sign and they will need to get it surgically removed. I guess I might not even make it to the camp. 😂😂😂 Anyway, some times facing my worst fear makes it easier to get through the day. Feeling much better now. www.myjewishlearning.com/article/januz-korczak/

I admit to being a "born again" Christian only if I accept to listen to the Spirit regarding my own indiscretions and to admit and ask for forgiveness. I will never claim that I never sinned, nor do I claim that any sin I commit will already been forgiven. Sin will always occur, even in those who believe in and trust in God, but we are imperfect on Earth and will continue to fall. Perfection will be when we meet the Lord and are accepted into His Kingdom. The fallacy that, because I will never be perfect on Earth keeps me honest with Him, to others and even to myself. When I remain honest, I cannot but remain humble in all that I do.

Really good topic and presentation. When living in Japan in the 1970s -- and diving into the language -- I was fascinated by words that could not be translated into English. But also the real challenge of encountering a language with at least four levels of politeness. I came from a society where egalitarianism was so important, and entered a society where I had to tailor my language precisely because equality is the exception rather than the rule. I had to first find my place, and adjust my language accordingly. In this sense, a form of humility comes naturally. Going back to the words that can't be translated, they involve the right hemisphere -- the emotional side of the brain. Written Japanese depends on ideograms -- and it takes years in school to master the roughly 2,200 characters for basic literacy. The experience is that the meaning goes directly from the page to the mind without normal reading-processing. Like an emoji. (But emojis are oh so primitive... LOL... and "emoji" is a Japanese word.) We in the West are frustrated knowing about humility but being truly culturally challenged at how to express it. "Unequal" Japan was in that sense very liberating.

It's funny, one of the things that I have been thinking recently is the way that different churches go about the idea of ordination and continued choices of clergy placement and their role in the church. For the established churches, especially those where the congregation takes the choice of their clergy, how much more humble this keeps a person - and the ego never can take control in the way that those churches set up by an individual or small grouping, almost designed for precisely the opposite! From the pulpit each week a humility is there to show the vulnerability of the congregation as a whole and out of this a unity for the love of God in action. At this point, humility is the only natural response as we are servants there to all those around

Instead, he uses the millions strictly for the church body and outreach. A man like that is dripping in humility for Christ and it shows.

I watched this video earlier today, but as I began to read a book about suffering by Edith Schaeffer, I was reminded of this video, and I wanted to say that as someone who developed schizophrenia at the age of 28, I have had to learn to live with a lot of unanswered questions about why and how I came to be afflicted with it. Because of domestic violence when I was young I find it difficult to trust men, especially when it comes to my personal safety. I can be friends with them, but at the end of the day they go back home to their families, and I stay alone with my dog. I never married, and at 65 I don’t think I ever will, but having realized why I’m still single at my age, I have found peace and come to terms with my solitude. I’d rather be single than in an abusive relationship, and although I know that not all men are violent, I have no way of knowing that a violent man wouldn’t prey on me if I were open to relationships with men. As it is, I believe that God is protecting me, but that DOESN’T mean I know why He doesn’t protect other women from being abused. He doesn’t tell me that, so don’t ask me. That is something each of us has to figure out for ourselves.

Back in the days when I watched the Dr.Phil show-he’s a clinical psychologist-he used to say that it isn’t a case of women unconsciously choosing their abuser, but rather that men who are violent towards women are predators who can spot a victim intuitively and latch onto them until they kill their victims. I like that idea because it removes the burden from women that society lays on them when it says that they choose the men who will beat them up, even if it’s unconsciously. You’re still blaming the victim. I no longer watch the program, but I’m pretty sure he still says that. It makes sense, so why would he stop saying it?

Thanks Rev, good topic that challenges all of us. When we feel uncomfortable emotions, its often because of our ego. Our egos are predictive of our relationships with God and other people. I am constantly trying to be less of me to let the Holy spirit be more in me. To make space for God we have to give up judging and instead have an open heart, even if the Lord is teaching us something hard about ourselves. We can't advance in faith if we're not humble.💖💖💖

Rev Trevor’s, I believe your correct in assuming how others would react to us, if we were humble. I believe that because, for an instant, I thought of how I would have felt, if the churches would have embraced me instead of judge me. If we were all even in Gods eyes as well as our own. What a wonderful place this would be, if we didn’t see ourselves as better than someone else. I do believe in Gods eyes one of his children is no better than another one of his children, he knows we are constantly learning, it’s us who live in a mindset of perfection. That is not humanly possible to obtain. For sometime I have wondered, how some of our churches have became so dangerous, I am speaking of the churches who do back, follow trump. God doesn’t need trump, as these churches claim. God sent trump as a test, or at least that is my thought. I don’t see Christ in the people who follow trump. I see hate, destruction, lies and a whole lot of meanness. Everything not representative of Christ our lord and savior. I suppose, I am judging them now, but I will not follow trump or those who follow him. Because God said we should follow no man. The amount of Christian’s who have decided to follow trump, I would have never thought possible. I prey every night that they wake, and follow Jesus, in the way they once did.

So if it were like that, people would seek it out so much! Even those not closely associated with the Church would, as well as, those who are!! I am a black "cradle" Catholic who is currently in "exile" because of the association of US Catholic Bishops uniting with Evangelicals and attaching themselves with Republicans. I struggled desperately over the last 10 years and finally just walked away. You sound very similar to the Catholic Church, so it maybe you are Episcopalian. ( Oh, I just read Anglican, really similar I guess - just no Pope). When you said "Thanks Be To God" & blessing yourself - I immediately knew). But, it doesn't matter, just wondering. Funny I gravitate here but that's because I still love Jesus, & God, & the Church as it could be. So, I look Online like I did during the pandemic. But, almost daily, I listen to your words. Thanks!

Not being political...just reading one man's view of humility in Christ: "Cooper followed up asking Trump if "asking for forgiveness" is a central tenet in his faith life. "I try not make mistakes where I have to ask forgiveness," Trump answered. When further asked about repentance again by Cooper, Trump said "I think repenting is terrific." *"Why do I have to repent or ask for forgiveness, if I am not making mistakes?"* asked Trump. "I work hard, I'm an honorable person." In talking about his Iowa appearance, Trump said, "We were having fun when I said I drink the wine, I eat the cracker, the whole room was laughing."

Your words remind me of a parable told by Saint John Chrysostom about the race of 2 chariots. The first one is driven by righteousness and pride and the second one by heresy and humility. Which one reaches God’s heart according to Saint John Chrysostom? Humility and heresy! Not that heresy is good for the soul but humility conquers them all and allow our hearts to listen to the One who cannot be contained. Humility allow hearts to change and learn from the One who is meek and humble.

Kind of an append to my post about Japan (below) and the topic about results from MAGA folks. One thing that rang out to me... "we are instructed." But the Japanese don't value humility because of any religious instruction. They would argue that it is a natural human thing. If we all want to get along as best as possible, this is how we have to be. I tie this back to the spiritual in that each of us humans carries a spark or image of the Divine in us. We CAN be intrinsically decent and humble -- and NOT because of something we consider extrinsic. This can become extremely liberating.

Christian arrogance is a thing--not that anyone would admit to it. But I know many Christians who believe that they are right and everyone else is wrong. They don't see other religions or belief systems as 'different' but 'wrong.' And that creates a barrier in showing God's love to others. Jesus never told us to change others, just to love them. And they won't see Him in us if we come at them with an attitude of "i'm right, you're wrong."

Religion is prone to tribalism. If you need it, that's whatever. But your religion needs to be YOUR religion. It's just too easy to a) be sure of your beliefs, and b) give in to power structures. It starts out "amazing" as you posit, but leads to wanting to inflict that on other people for our "own good." OR it becomes we/they when we don't sign on and now interpreted as threats.

I'm all for being humble. Jesus was, and as he represents God, I suspect God is too. As for that "sin" part, that's easily confused with just needing to work on becoming more perfect. We need seek for our Father's help not just in times of sinning, but all the time. Our sins are forgiven before we even think to ask because God's love for us is infinite, but in order for us to be open to receiving forgiveness, we must forgive others first. Jesus' blood has nothing to do with that. Part of being humble, is to be willing to forgive, and not just others, but ourself as well.

Not trying to seem all 'WOOWOO' here, but it's inevitable because I'm going to mention Star Trek. lol Here's a God-fearin' geezer's odd thought, pretty much typing without time for evil getting in (and making me edit out the good bits) ... The word 'CLOAKING' was used in US politics the other day to defend the bearing of false witness - by collectively denying truth *until later*. Bearing False Witness is the NEW manna, baptism, and the public 'element' taken to show one's real faith, in Lucifer...CLOAKED in patriotism and religion. Did I mention Star Trek yet? ... and then there's the absolute NOPE, NOT GOING THERE in every 'power of the air'-powered media that anyone pointing out the prophetic verses connecting an antiChrist with Luciferian 'fraternal organizations' (churches) here in N America and all around Israel today encounters .... CLOAKED/"hidden in plain sight". After all, whenever Satan imitates the One True God, the joke is on us, and when YAHWEH sends a strong delusion, you can bank on it being The Whopper You Never Saw Coming. ... The Tribulation Saints will be 'the red shirts'. OK, say "woowoo" now.

I know you're trying to avoid politics here, but you failed this time because the bible is clear that if you want positive change in your country this is the path. One of my favorite verses is "if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land." As far as politics goes that's all I want.

You are citing II Chronicles (Chap 7) and Solomon. If you are reading all of Chapter 7, I can't understand how you can try to frame things in a political context. Perhaps you failed there. (Do you actually believe that II Chronicles is referring to ALL countries?)
@andscifi
@andscifi 2 ай бұрын
@@yabits I understand the context. I've read it many times. And I agree that context does matter. but I also believe that God is consistent and values humility. How does that connect to politics. Well, there are a group of people who both claim to be Christians and claim to want to heal the land. The phrase they use isn't that of course, it's Make America Great Again. Do you generally connect humility with those people? More importantly, it was a joke. Not the verse or the importance of humility of course, but connecting it to politics was more about how everything can be connected to it because virtue matters in politics as much as anywhere else.
