Yeap, we're revisiting this rework. I felt that the first version was very undone in terms of mixing and reworking. So hey, why not make it right this time? Guitars and Bass are recorded by yours truly, drums are programmed by me and vocals? I have no idea where I found the isolated track. The video got deleted perhaps.
Apologies for taking so long on this project. I'm pretty lazy nowadays lol.
Ayo, huge thanks again to Semtex for making this sick album cover: / channel

Bryce… I have no words. Trapped Under Ice was the song that turned me into a Metallica fan, Dyers Eve is what hooked me on thrash metal, the little nod to Lars’s “I fucked up” from Blitzkreig… This is better than the original Trapped Under Ice & Dyers Eve. THIS, YOUR creation, is my favorite Metallica track. Ever. Wonderful job, my friend.

Dude!!! Wow. You are the only youtuber I tapped that fucking bell for. The music is fantastic, of course, you do an amazing job at matching tones. I want to see you do some Megadeth. One thing that I'm not sure you get enough credit for, your album art. You did something similar for TLITD on RTL. Ktulu eyes on the cover is so cool. This is also really cool. What is your process like for that stuff? Are you doing it by hand, or just doing some magic? I'm shocked, but I think I prefer the original after about halfway through the song. Still always a delight to see you upload.

My two cents: While State of Mercury is an incredible guitar player, I've always enjoyed your tracks a bit more on average due to their adherence to form. They compositionally resemble their forebears and flow a bit better than Mercury's songs, which sometimes feel like a series of consecutive mixture of neatly-divided instrumental sections that don't quite gel. You're able to capture Metallica's uncanny knack for momentum a bit better and your song production is generally more pronounced and full (say nothing of Mercury's St. Anger covers, which I absolutely hate-pointless ear torture). This being said, you have a curious hybrid that isn't quite one album or the other. The bass is very much present in the RtL style. However, the drums sound a little flat, clicking noticeably in the Justice style. This is especially glaring with the double-bass drums, but the snare sounds a bit papery too. It could be worse and the overall balancing is well done (I like the toms and the vocal track); nothing really fights for anything else to be heard, and the solos, while well executed, don't get so flashy as to distract from the thrashing. Equally good are the little bits of color you thrown in, like the guitar harmonies after the bridge (2:51) and the divebomb before the final solo (3:15). Nice work! Glad to hear you're still in business! Keep it up, but look after yourself! \m/

Mercury also will just randomly throw in parts from the album the song is intended to be on and it just doesn't... make any sense. Just seems like fan-service. Shimmering reverb on the drums...? There's effectively no reverb on them in this mix.
@PersephonevanderWaard
@PersephonevanderWaard 2 жыл бұрын
@@RetrOchannel You're right about the reverb. It was late when I wrote this and I think I confused the cymbals with the snares or something. XD I remember really liking Mercury's Nothing Else Matters in the MoP style a lot, but that's because-if I remember-it sounded mostly like the original song with a different playing style. But the audio production and playing dynamics are very different than injecting riffs from other songs into the one being cover/recreated. Like, that's not a style, that's a cameo. Mercury loves those, but I always appreciated Bryce altering the riff of a sing song to sound more like it would belong on a particular album without fundamentally swapping its riff for a preexisting one.
