Thanks I do too. I really miss the old painted movie posters and that art work belongs on the cover.

I love stuff like this! I've made custom DVDs before, often for things that didn't have a digital disc release at the time. I'm curious to know, what kind of printer do you use? Is it a standard machine, or something high grade or catered to these kinds of projects?
@80sMadeConsumer4 ай бұрын
Great because I have a couple more videos being worked on now that tackles custom/home brew stuff. I use the Epson ET 8550 it’s a high grade printer usually used for printing large photos and images.

Ooohh...good idea! I do some customizing myself, but I am going to grab that stupid crayon movie I got from Dollar Tree and give that case to my Simpsons Movie case now! Great idea!

Thanks man. Hope you find one I think I found mine 4yrs ago, but it’s a something no one wanted I’m sure there are tons online
@KevinTRod Жыл бұрын
@@80sMadeConsumerActually, I already have one. I got it at Dollar Tree for the digital code (my brother has access to my VUDU account, and I figured my nieces and nephews might enjoy it). I never got rid of the disc, so I did what you suggested and now my Simpsons Movie looks better!

Bet there is some way to dye clear cases to be specific colors. Might be hard with the clear plastic part to see the cover but maybe there's a way.
@80sMadeConsumerАй бұрын
I wouldn’t even know about that always assumed the colors were added when the plastic was a liquid. I’m thinking about reaching out to one of the manufactures and seeing what would a minimum order would be, if I could get a specific color. The same manufacturer that makes the blue ones and the black 4ks also make the white ones.
@HotshotMCАй бұрын
@@80sMadeConsumer Yeah at the end of the day I bet 99% of these cases are manufactured in China so if you get connected with a manufacturer you could either order a lot and sell them, or do a group buy like people do in other hobbies like mechanical keyboards
@80sMadeConsumerАй бұрын
@ great idea I didn’t even think of the group buy! I’ll be looking into it.
@HotshotMCАй бұрын
@@80sMadeConsumer If you do end up doing a group buy try and do a colorway that you think would be most popular first, since the more people are in the cheaper it becomes. Also you will likely want to make it a 2-3 disc case since many Blu-rays often have a bonus feature disc or DVD copy included and you want people to be able to use the case in a flexible manner for a variety of releases. And lastly, do some research for some Blu-rays releases that would match. For example, if you go for some kind of white color, advertise how people can recreate the classic Disney look of their VHS and DVDs. If it's red then it can work well for Spider-Man, some horror films, or maybe some classic christmas movies etc.

I've done things like this before and have plans to do even more of it. There are sites with people uploading custom cover art. It gives nice options, especially when an older movie comes with some crappy new photoshopped cover rather than original poster art on the case. While there are others FAR more talented than me, I have dabbled a bit in using photoshop to make custom covers. Sometimes it might be something more elaborate, but other times it might be simply tweaks that make a big difference compared to official offerings. I've even gone down the road of getting cases with a larger disc capacity and making my own combo packs of different editions/formats of the same movies, having one case to grab and having bonus features on one addition, but a better transfer on another, etc., all in one case. It also helps save on shelf space.

Nice. I’ve tried those premade sites before and the few I could find I still had trouble with the print settings either too big or too small and at the time I was just wasting paper. I’ll probably give it a solid try after the Holidays. The ugly banner is the bane of my collection
@thelastmoviestanding7 ай бұрын
Great video man!! I have a video like this planned with my Disney movie club movies because I hate that yellow outline on all the exclusive blu-rays lol. Worst 4k Banner ever is the Evil Dead Rises 4K.. SO UGLY! lol I made a video my channel about customizing my Disney movies to white cases to mimic that class VHS look. I've never seen a yellow blu-ray case before, that look dope! I'm also thinking about getting clear cases for all my IFC & Independent films
@80sMadeConsumer7 ай бұрын
Right on I think it’s important to make your collection really yours. I don’t mind the DMC exclusives with the yellow but my pet peeve is the dumb ugly 4k banners. Lucky I take the slip covers off my studio releases and no banner on Evil Dead Rise case. I think the studios are mostly soulless corporations all of them missing the mark on color matching cases little touches make the difference. You should do it, vinegar syndrome sells empty clear cases in bulk really great cases. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Not a lot of options like dvd had so unfortunately other than black or clear any other colors you have to source off other movies thrift stores are a best bet and ebay is easy but not cost effective. I’ll post links to the black and clear ones in the description.

When it comes down to it, making a specific bluray case, thats not the standard blue, costs money. And they just don't want to shell out the extra cash to do that. Sure, in the DVD era they did it all the time. But that's because they were making money hand over fist with DVD back in the day. Dvd was something new and exciting. And these companies wanted to give you a reason to but their DVD. They needed to make sure you knew it was special. Thats why they called it the special edition. But now they've moved onto streaming. And somehow, they've conviced people streaming is better. Even though there are ads, and never any bonus content. Not to mention no special edition DVD.
@80sMadeConsumerАй бұрын
I hate it and get it at the same time companies cut corners to line pockets, I guess I want the blu-ray replacement case companies to offer more colors. I grabbed a box off 100 red DVD cases from the same place that only offered plain blue Blu-ray & black 4k cases. Streaming is the worst for many reasons, I don't understand it never will. I get that it's a money thing, but at the end of the day people have looked at the data and Streaming loses these companies millions every day they can't even hide it.
