Hugo, the idea of a grown man spending a half hour of his life to contemplate and hear about the clothes of another grown man seems ridiculous, but that is what happened. 😄 Thank you for this!

"Buy quality. It's better to save and buy a super-good suit than buy-buy-buy-buy and then throw and/or don't wear." Those are words to live by, and not just when it comes to suits. You’re right! I bought a bespoke Neapolitan suit for £3000 that I’ve worn a reasonable amount of times and then a fused sport coat for £120 I have never worn which I’m considering throwing away! So no points for guessing which was a costly mistake!

I have been following Sartorial Talks for only about a month now but you guys are so inspiring. I'm a bigger guy that has struggled for years with my self image. I love to wear suits and dress clothes but my weight fluctuates so much and it's hard to feel confident in what I wear. Just in the last month I feel so much more confident with knowing there is a community of people that care about looking great and knowing that there are others out there that want their wardrobe to be what speaks before they open their mouth. Thank you for all that you do, Hugo. You are an inspiration and I can't wait to own my very 1st bespoke 3 piece suit someday. Thank you!

If you are like me then you are working with a budget and may need to buy your items piece by piece. I would start with the shoes, then jacket, then the rest of the suit. You mentioned your weight fluctuations, a tailor can add adjustments and even different materials to make you comfortable. A suit is not only to look good but you should feel very comfortable in the suit in every element. How you carry yourself with posture is important also. Again, good shoes will change your life and is the foundation of your wardrobe. Best wishes to you and good luck!

I will never buy a suit and absolutely don't find suits or any type of Chino or Pantalon type clothing appealing. 0:48 Hugo, you already have inspired me to buy my first shoes outside from local mall. This week I have recieved new loafers from Meermin. Their price is similar to mass-market shoes, but they look much better. Now i know that there are not just shoes, but loafers, derbies, oxfords, monks, chealsea boots. Looking forward to buy something from Loake or Herring thanks to your video about best shoe brands. Also I have found in my city tailor who is doing made-to-measure shirts. Now i am thinking about to order a linen shirt for summer with precise mine measurements.

This blue you wore for the interview looks stunning, Hugo. Love this colour. It looks so refreshing and positive among all these dark, at best dark blue or grey suits I usually see. Suits you very well. As well as I love your detailed explanations why and how you chose what for your personal suits style, how much it was etc. and ... that you didn't intend to lecture anybody. I think that was very important to emphasise at a certain point as well, since the Latin maxim goes _'De gustibus _*_non_*_ est disputandum.'_ . Unfortunately it's often misinterpreted or even wrongly translated and many were taught or seem to understand that in matters of taste, there do could be disputes. Thanks for clarification and ... your inspiration. ;)

My sartorial journey began when I moved to Hong Kong in 2007 with bespoke suits by local tailors. You get what you pay for. Then I discovered ready-to-wear by Ring Jacket before going full tilt boogie with MTM and bespoke Orazio Luciano, Huntsman, Dalcuore, Cifonelli and most recently Sartoria Yuki Inoue. It is an expensive hobby, but the upside is I work out more at the gym so that I can keep wearing these pieces of art and, most importantly, I get compliments from the smart ladies at the office :-)

Even though my taste in how suits are cut is very different from his, this man radiates so much elegance. There is something about his attitude, so polite and low key. Gentile. The fact that his style is so consistent also shows great confidence, I think that is one of the most elegant things you can have. Thank you for the tips. I don't have money to go straight to Cifonellis but will keep on improving my wardrobe and aiming for the style I love.

Many thanks. Suits always stored in suit bags (with zips) to avoid moths and coats hanged on proper hangers (with thickness on the shoulder to maintain the shape of the suit). Shoes, never on the floor (they need to dry and breath) and always put on woods immediately after removing them. With these two simple gestures, you'll multiply the life of your shoes by 3. Fantastic. The aspect of quality tailored clothes that I am most attracted to is the thought and investment that goes into it, making it more than just an article of clothing. As you say the choices you make during this process are a stylistic statement, and I feel like a lot of men today are either afraid to do that, or simply do so unintentionally without being completely conscious of what messages they convey.

Hi Hugo, Thank you so much for sharing your wardrobe with gentlemen of the world. You've inspired me so much to build my wardrobe. Could you please do an episode on how and when to wear an Ascot, and what would be the right matching accessories, such as a pocket square and shoes. I'm trying to introduce the ascot here in the San Francisco bay area, but I keep getting feedback from friends and family that it's outdated, and looks too flamboyant. Thanks Andrew San Francisco, California, USA
@SARTORIALTALKS
@SARTORIALTALKS 5 жыл бұрын
Dear Andrew, I'm afraid we'll not be able to dedicate a full episode to the Ascot, but we'll probably include it in an episode dedicated to neckwear. An Ascot is more discreet than flamboyant. It creates a very conservative feeling. Traditional, almost blue blood . I don't wear Ascot because I have the feeling it ages me a lot, but I know a few gentlemen who pull it of with success! Cheers, Hugo

This is great. You have a way to be technical but also very personal on your videos. A very delicate approach on making videos, and in a language that is not your mother tongue as well. Will you ever make a video about fashion suggestions for people living in tropical areas? Or for people who are blue collar workers? Or for engineers or construction supervisors etc... Btw, I love your choice of timepiece. Very nice Laurent Ferrier Galet.

As usual, excellent video. Keep it up, Hugo. Personally, I leave it to my tailor on what color, what fabric and what style. My tailor knows my wardrobe. I only tell him the situation(s) that I am going to be using the suit most and leave the rest to my tailor, who usually comes up with the most thoughtful suggestion. I, obviously, retain the final decision to approve before I sign on the dotted line. And then the months of waiting begins :-).

Hi Hugo! Thank you so much for your honesty and sharing your wardrobe. You are a great great personal inspiration. I just invested in my first made-to-measure single breasted half-canvas suit. Approx 1000€ in Denmark, as I have limited funds. (Mond of Copenhaguen: portugese produced, Italian fabrics). It is not a high-end tailor, but I think they did a decent job. I got it a week ago, and today I am going to ware it for the first time. Amazing. My question to you Hugo, if you can find the time, is about lapels. I am very happy with the suit, but wary about the lapel. I wonder to what extent 'brakes' on the lapel is acceptable when one sits or moves around. I understand that there will always be a 'brake' if you sit down and haven't opened the jacket(which one should not do, always open when sited I hear), but if the jacket is closed and you move around and there is 'brake' in the lapel, is this normal, or a problem that a 1000€ suit cannot take into account, and only be avoided if one goes bespoke? Or should I ask for refitting? (I am not sure what to call the 'brake', it is like when the lapel does not fall smoothly down, but sometimes 'folds' or 'brakes' or 'spikes outs') Again thank you, may God's blessings be upon you and Sophia!
@SARTORIALTALKS
@SARTORIALTALKS 5 жыл бұрын
Dear KL, I'm not sure what you mean by a "brake". At first I thought you were talking of a small X in the region of the functional button, which is totally acceptable (and even good to have, as this little (but controlled) imperfection adds a little flair to your suits). But after you speak about lapels. So I don't know, but according to what I read, you should definitely go for a refitting. Best of luck ! Hugo
@kristianlykke

Yeah, I'll get a refitting, it's a minor thing. Sorry I can't explain better. It's a beautiful suit, so that's great. Looking forward to the next videos! Thanks for reply! :-D

Great content as usual! I went made-to-measure last year and even though the first experience was not perfect, I think I got a great looking suit out of it. Will be doing it again this year with some tweaks to the measurements. Full bespoke is not available in my area and I would hve to drive like 150 km just to get to the nearest bespoke tailor shop. You made me stop and think, I need to evaluate what I have and get 1 bespoke suit made. I live in far west, TX so I think I will need to travel to Dallas or some other major city to find a good maker. If any readers can recommend somebody I would be thankful. I have started on my journey and will consider the summer suit as one to get. I really liked that blue one with the Chevron pattern and the Prince of Whales pattern.
