Thank you guys. Another great informative video. One small suggestion when talking about specifics in these kinda videos, a close up insert shot of the plant would be beneficial for the viewer to see and understand your point better.

GREAT video guys thanks for all the clarity and for reminding me to get rid of any growth below my grafts!! 👍 I prefer both so I can add height differences texture and variety to my landscape. Keep up the amazing work we appreciate y'all so much!!

Thank you. From my local nursery, I bought a small Filigree Lace that came with a high graft. It will stay in a pot. Canada 🇨🇦 here, so I can not order from you. I get so much education from your video. Thanks again.

Great info. Keep up the videos! I have about 10 new trees from u guys and they are just starting to leaf I can't wait to see them! I'm used to growing the trunks out and if I have a branch coming from the graft how long would u say I can keep that branch on until it starts effecting the tree before I need to cut it off? Thanks I dig Mr maple . Mr maple podcast!

I would recommend taking anything before the graft off as soon as possible

I just planted a small tamukeyama I bought at Loews. It has a few small branches, very low on the trunk, hanging down. They are almost touching the ground. Can I just cut those branches completely off or could that hurt the tree? I read pruning wrong can hurt the tree.

Check out our how to prune video. Before they leaf out is the best time

Are the high graft conifers any less hardy?

No, I haven’t seen any indications of that

Newbie at Japanese Maples. Super interesting info in this video. Something I never cared for with the Japanese maples was the 'gnarly' look but now I get it. This being said, if I preferred the 'weeping' look of a lace leaf and opted for the low graft, would keeping the lower branches pruned off achieve the same long term effect as a high graft? Seems the high graft could be more prone to problems?? P.S.... Thanks for killing my day!! I watched my first Mr. Maple video 7 hours ago!! 😉😂

I am a huge fan of the strongly contorted, intricate branch work. Which graft should I go for?
@MrMapleShow2 жыл бұрын
Low will have it closest to the ground but both will have awesome shapes

If you have a high graft can you air layer the main trunk to change it into a low graft?

I have a high grafted crimson weeping Japanese maple. It's pretty young but the base is about 1.5 feet before the graft. Is it ok to bury the base a little deeper as long as the graft is still above the ground? Thanks for the video!
@MrMapleShow9 ай бұрын
No they can’t be planted below the root collar without causing big issues for the tree

How high can the graft go? I want to try 6 feet on an Inaba Shidare. Maybe I will also try grafting on a Trident Maple rootstock.

Sure it could work. I’ve seen 20 ft before

Why?
@obsessedwithlawnoddswithgr20925 ай бұрын
@sasha185 root stock got good vigor. so it will push the grafted stem with lots of plant juices so the plant will get taller. low graft good for bonsai.
