It seems like the entire Kalpa measures the number of individual souls that split off from the Godhead First two, then four, then eight, then millions and millions of mortals Eventually these souls get put back together (dragons eat each other, Aedra and Daedra collect mortals) It's like the Godhead is splitting it's soul to create characters to play with and then later he 'cleans up his toys'

When you guys mentioned how Dagon had brought down the towers of Lyg, which started this new Kalpa, that makes me think that the Thalmor are just totally wrong. Sure, they might be able to bring down the Towers, which would undo reality and might make them immortal spirits again, but only for this Kalpa. That would just start another. Guys, I'm actually hyped rn. If the Thalmor succeed, we could get a restart of TES, moving into a new Kalpa.

So, I know we keep referring to the kalpa as a circle or wheel, but that never really sat right with me because each kalpa is supposed to be unique unto itself. So what if instead of a wheel it's more like a spiral? A never ending spiral of kalpas that blend into one another, and from the one 'side' it would just look like a wheel which is where that one quote could come from.

My theory is that Lorkhan's trick is unique to this kalpa hence the line about Sep convincing them it's an easier way than the Walkabout. It would explain the Magna-Ge being able to chill in Lygg and create Mehrunes in a previous less restrictive Kalpa, why Alduin decided not to eat the world this time, why the Thalmor are so obsessed with unravelling the Aurbis because this is the only time that the ehlnofey have been reduced to entirely mortal. The idea of Lorkhan tricking the gods everytime just makes it feel like going with the motions rather than an actual betrayal.

Don't you find it unusual that these et'Ada are so keenly interested in the day-to-day lives of mortals? Or that they choose to take the form of the races within Nirn, often showing favour to specific races? It occurs to me that if Mundus is continually reborn, et'Ada do not experience linear time and mortals can ascend to become et'Ada then every single et'Ada may simply be mortals from eras in the past, present and future. In fact, this would create a really interesting paradox whereby if the Et'Ada did not choose to create Mundus then they themselves could never exist. That would in fact explain why et'Ada often exhibit mortal behaviour despite being supposedly all-knowing, all-powerful beings. In fact, aside from Anu and Padomay all the other deities have a beginning. The whole start of this is also very broken as supposedly Anu and Padomay created Sithis and Anui-El to "know themselves" yet with them existing together there was no need to do that as they could ask each other. This notion of needing to "know yourself" is also going against any idea of an all-powerful deity as these kinds of questions are very mortal in nature and suggest limitations. A need and desire to learn. There's the possibility that at the end of each Kalpa there are two survivors who become the primordial deities for the next. We've seen mortals ascend to et'Ada before and there seems to be little difference in power between primordial entities and manifested et'Ada such as Lorkan. In fact, he was created to destroy the universe which suggests that this was something Sithis could not do themself. It would be interesting to see the current Kalpa end in the next Elder Scrolls game with you and the main villian ascending to be the next primordial beings. It may just be that Elder Scrolls borrows from norse religion and has a Ragnarok style event where all et'Ada are killed off except two and the war just destroys almost everything in Aurbis thereby needing creation all over again. Those who claim to be from previous Kalpas would be little more than pieces of existence that are included as Aurbis is remade by the two survivors of "Ragnarok" who represent order and chaos. This idea of a war to end reality is certainly suggested by the various realms for the dead where heroes of legend are gathered for some future purpose. The "Next Pounce" does imply an attack or assault on something too.
@ivans.5959
@ivans.5959 3 жыл бұрын
So you mean that the two beings that represent chaos and order (Anu and Padomai) were two gods from the previous Kalpa? And maybe the ones who will represent those things in the future cycle are gods that are alive today (maybe Molag Bal and Talos will be the next Anu and Padomai. Both represent two sides of domination, just like chaos and order, two sides of the same coin). But of course more gods will survive (just like Ragnarok), if not gods that are form previous kalpas wouldn't exist. That if I understand right your theory. Also, I love that theory (the one that all et'adas were mortals in previous kalpas

Michael brought up the Daedra right as I was going on a mental escapade as to how they fit into all the Afterlife and Gulag talk. I'm writing my thoughts before I press play again so: As we know, Daedra have their specific spheres. Potentially they take on champions, extract souls, toy with mortals, etc to fuel their knowledge and/or stockpile of one Kalpa to bring into the next one. The way I'm viewing this is like when we were kids we'd always hear "think outside the box." We know the Daedra have a sphere so maybe they transcend so vastly that they need beings of lesser creation to be their guides/ eyes and ears inside the "box" that is a mortals reality inside a Kalpa. Gonna start playing again now. Hopefully our thoughts and ideas play a part in one another or help elevate each other's thoughts. Keep up the great work fellas and thanks as always

I like the Sovngarde idea. Since it's inspired by Valhalla mostly, it's similar in a way that warriors in Valhalla are also waiting for Ragnarok to battle that last time. And after Ragnarok, a new world will dawn. Maybe the Thalmor undoing Mundus will be that climax at the end of that kalpa.

It's interesting to think when considering Mehrunes Dagon came from another cycle, that his cult was called the Mythic Dawn, like it's actually a reference to his involvement in the dawn era. It seems to me that he was like the Alduin of the last world and the current one is just broken. All the messing around with time and such may have actually broken the cycle entirely, leaving TES series as a linear timeline for Bethesda to make more games while keeping the cycle as canon. A little weird to think about, but that makes sense to me, that the cycle is just an old thing at the start of TES, and now it's linear instead, but some can remember how it was.

@ferristhered1401
@ferristhered1401 3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelposey3321 The Magna-Ge are more powerful than the other Aedra, but they're definitely below 100% of their pre-Mundus power level. They fled when they discovered Lorkhan's trick, but they had already gotten started and given some of their power to the project. The initial power loss may not have gone unnoticed - "Hey, I feel a little tired today. I've never felt tired since existence began. Lorkhan, wtf." "Heh, okay guys, funny story . . ." That said, Magnus likely surrounded himself with more powerful spirits to begin with, anyway. Meridia can stand amongst the Daedra, despite her reduced power level, because her 85% is still stronger than some of the Princes at their respective 100%. Merid-Nunda was strong.
@ferristhered1401
@ferristhered1401 3 жыл бұрын
As for what the Magna-Ge are up to . . . I don't know that we have any evidence of what they're doing, or that it has any impact on Mundus whatsoever. They gave up on the project a long time ago. All we really get from them now is felt through the existence of magicka, slowly leaking in from Aetherius through the holes the Magna-Ge tore in the sky. If you're interested in the speculation, there's a neat mod that explores the idea. Spectraverse. I think that's pretty much it, though. I think the Magna-Ge sort of escaped the Kalpic cycle, as the cycle seems tied to Mundus. Perhaps all the planes of Oblivion exist outside the cycle, since the actual Daedra (by original definition) didn't contribute to Mundus at all, and so were not bound to the cycle that came with it.

What if the "Adjacent Places" are in fact not different Kalpa's, but more literally "Adjacent Dimensions?" Existing at the same time, but being drastically different, or almost the same, save for small details? Here's my theory: Akatosh created "linear time" by splitting "time" itself between countless dimensions existing parallel to each other. Much like the barrier between Oblivion and the Mundus; so there are barriers between the various Adjacent Places. Its only during Dragon Breaks, where the barriers between those places also Break, allowing the various possibilities of time to spill over and mix. Other from that, the possibilities in time are kept separated, to create "linear" time.

˝Pruzah. As good a reason as any. There are many who feel as you do, although not all. Some would say that all things must end, so that the next can come to pass. Perhaps this world is simply the Egg of the next kalpa? Lein vokiin? Would you stop the next world from being born?'' even paarthunax himself seems to not know whether a kalpa is real or not and he was close to alduin , and on top of that some say they are real some say they are not , and obviously as you mentioned if if alduin was supposed to eat this ˝kalpa˝ then why is he defeated , sure he wanted to rule the world rather than eat it , but still , but im sure the galaxy brains over at teslore will make up some stuff to fill in the blanks

This is a bit out there, what if Lorkhan was all like "hey other spirits, wanna make a cool world together by combining our spheres of influence, and becoming a super power?" And the Aedra/magnus magne ge were like "sure it'll be like a perfect orderly world." The Lorkhan was like "psych its a world of free will and i am using your powers to power it." Then the betrayed group gets pissed and try to kill him, only to find that they can't kill him, since he like them is a part of the world. Now since Lorkhan can't be destroyed, but would desire to be whole again, the kalpas are really a cycle of Lorkhan getting too close to collecting his pieces and the aedra and magnus destroying and remaking the world to rehide and stop it from happening. Meanwhile Lorkhans ultimate goal is to break the cycle and allow mundus to thrive on its own.

I hope we get a kalpa. I want current elderscrolls to end and the new game to be set in the new worlds first era. With less elves and more unique fantasy races. Maybe fuse the high elves and the golden saints and the dark elves with the dark seducers to survive the kalpa. I want the kothringi fused with the reach men/ bretons. I want to see more akaviri races that found their own way to survive. And I want it to be a game of discovery instead of adventure during established regions. Like a game of exploring a new frontier/land mass. Maybe have dremora that gave up their immortality to survive the kalpa and make them a changed player race too.
@mismismism
@mismismism 3 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing. A lot of the races are hella bland right now, seems like a perfect way to revamp them since the elves and Hist seem to have a way to survive a kalpa, so we can get elves/Bretons and Argonians that are actually as weird and unique as their backstories make them out to be. It's crazy that we have basically tree, lizard Xenomorphs and they're basically just scaly humans, lots of wasted potential in the races.
@valentineX1X
@valentineX1X 3 жыл бұрын
@@mismismism agreed. I get establishing fantasy races that appeal to the masses to get people interested like the typical elves etc but now elderscrolls has a monstrous fanbase its the perfect opportunity to branch out and really let the fantasy fly. They have unlimited potential and the only limitation is their own mind so go wild with it. The hist and argonians could be way more interesting or at least they could actually show more of their interesting sides for sure. And I really advocate for more races to feature in the game as npcs atleast to make the world feel more diverse. Plus if the base models are in there moders will have more fun.

Interesting parts about this mishmash podcast. 00:45 - 01:54 Scott is talking all the cool conjectures, extrapolations they are about to make about the topic. But, you know. Kalpa is easy to understand. A long period of time as part of a cycle (that implies its destruction before it is recreated) 02:31 THE Kirkbride once said that the Dawn Era was the end of the first Kalpa. Merethic era is (perhaps) Day one of the new Kalpa. Also Kalpa. 03:21- 08:45 About the official lore. In Skyrim, the main story line refers to that concept. It is known by nordics (Alduin) and reguards (Satakal) and whateva those lizardmen believe. 09:30 - 13:40 A passionate discussion that established that the further away from the defecation of Trinimac by Boethiah, the more mundane it becomes. a discussion on relativism and geometry ensued. In the end we dont know really. As Michael pointed out: there are mythical things happening all the times.
@ferristhered1401

I wonder how things differ with the more spectacular events of the Dawn and Merethic Eras, like Trinimac being corrupted into Malacath - did a Trinimac exist in all previous Kalpas, and would Malacath now take his place in any future ones? Has Lorkhan been killed in every cycle, or is that new to this cycle - and in the case of the latter, in a next Kalpa, would Lorkhan be returned to life?
@jacobfreeman5444
@jacobfreeman5444 3 жыл бұрын
There is a cult of orcs that believe Trinimac can be restored and Malacath essentially is keeping this from happening by monopolizing all faith from the orcs. Thus by rejecting Malacath and embracing Trinimac they can restore their god and people. As for Lorkhan...he isn't truly dead. He can't be killed. His existence is tied to Nirn in a fundamental way. He is denied physical existence but his spirit and essence are ever potent. The fact the heart keeps popping up is proof of this.

During the conversation with Paarthanax, I couldn't help but think-- how many are more powerful than destiny? If the world was /supposed/ to end, would it not have? Are Gormlaith, Hakon, and Felldir truly stronger than what is fated to happen? Is the Dragonborn so powerful that he can change the fate of the whole world? I think that were the world actually supposed to have ended, it would have. There is something that hasn't happened that is delaying the end of this Kalpa. It isn't that the universes end is be prevented, its that the universe is preventing its end for some reason.

I really hope the next game really returns to the philosophical/mythological/mystical roots of the series. Sure there’s a ton of lore in Skyrim, but you really have to dig deep for it. It’s like they sacrificed their cooler ideas for mainstream appeal, but left a little trail of bread crumbs for us hardcore fans. I don’t want the next game to be like a university lecture, but I would like to actually experience the lore without having to read all the in game books and have to listen to podcasts (no offense, you guys are awesome) to really experience the amazing lore in these games.

It makes a sort of sense. They admit they are travelers from another place, one they ruined so completely it disappeared. But to my knowledge it is never explained how they knew to sail to Tamriel or how they achieved it. Just...Redguards showing up with their curved...swords.

26:00 “what if that just makes it linear?” Well if you look at “unbind the dragon” as similar to Norse mythology, Jormungandr letting go of his tail is one of the signs of Ragnarok, and Norse myth is circular in that a new cycle of gods and mortals and giants would start again. So an ouroboros going from a circle to a line isn’t necessarily permanent.

My current thoughts of the Kalpas: Due to the meddling with deities of Alessia, Akatosh is currently at odds with himself, his Human Divine side (His Shor influence) and his Elven Divine side (Au-riel influence) are both striving towards different things. The Human desire to keep the World alive and make the most of the world created by Lorkhan. And the Elven side to tear down the "prison" they believe the world is. With the belief of Akatosh being created, it retroactively birthed Akatosh throughout all of time and reality. And these opposing ideas are the Kalpa: His Elven side ends reality, his Human side creates the next world
