Marilyn Pasquale Thank you for the great, informative demos. I have a quilt with multiple small triangles around a square that is set on point in the quilt. How do you pantograph on the triangles only around the square and quilt a fancy quilt design in the square only that is set on point? There are 2 to 3 squares on point in each quilt row.

Interesting question Marilyn - that isn't really a pantograph if you're wanting to quilt specific designs into specific places like triangles. A pantograph is a repeatable long design that is stitched over your whole quilt, ignoring the piecing. However you can use a laser light to follow a design and quilt it into a specific area on your quilt. Just draw the design on paper, making sure it fits into your triangle shape. Then set it next to the space you're quilting and set your laser light to the front of your longarm. Quilt through the space following the design with the laser light.

This was great. My question is if you do a pantomime in the middle of your quilt and you want a feather in the boarder, I suppose you need to keep rolling the quilt. Could you give a demo on this. Thanks

That's not really what a pantograph is designed to do and will likely feel very difficult. The idea is to cover your quilt with one single design. It's not intended to pick and choose between the inside and the borders. Yes, I suppose you could tape guides on the pantograph to stop you from quilting into the border, but then you'd need to be very careful to return to the pantograph to advance the quilt through the machine. I'll think on this a bit and see what I can come up with...

Since it was just for me (practice), I wanted to do FMQ feathers etc., in half-square triangles and I wanted to test a new pantograph "loop the loop". So I did exactly that - quilt loaded sideways and pantographed from edge of top border to edge of bottom border (no sides). Then I turned the quilt and did the free motion in the top and bottom borders. As you said, not Easy, but it turned out much better than I thought. I use "Red Snappers" to attach the quilt so that made it easier. I don't know that I'd do this for an important quilt, especially not as a beginner! I don't know how to attach a picture or I would LOL!

Can the grace frames have wheels put on them so the frame can be moved for backend pantograph quilting.?
@LeahDay3 жыл бұрын
Nope. Frames like this are stationary. It takes a good bit of work to level the frame to stop the machine from drifting. If the frame was on wheels, it would be impossible to level.

Hi, can you put the pantograph in front of the machine? I plan to purchase the Cutie quilt frame from the Grace company to fit my regular Husqvarna machine.
@LeahDay3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can in the form of blocks or short / small designs. I wouldn't try to put a full length panto on the front / on the quilt because there isn't enough room and your chances of bumping the pantograph and throwing off your rows is too great. Taping it to the back table is the best way.

Is there a website or pdf that has a chart on what size pantographs can be used on specific machines? I have a brand new Q'nique 21 and not sure what the largest pantograph is that I can use. Any recommendations on where to get that type of info? (before I start investing in Pantos and/or start creating my own. ) THanks

Great question! It really depends on how much space you have to quilt in. Let's say you have 16 inches. As the quilt rolls up it will take up space in the arm of your machine. This will reduce your quilt-able space on the longarm. So instead of trying for the largest sized panto, I would start small and work your way up. Maybe begin with a 10 inch design, then try 12. It will depend on the length of the quilt too. A shorter quilt could take a wider panto design. Definitely more playing, experimenting and learning in this area in my future too!

Leah Day I did find your pdf about Pantographs on your website Leahday.com/Panto. Excellent information. I too will experiment as I like the idea of pantographs and their use. This will help me practice on baby size to throw size quilts that I plan to make for charity. Thank you for all your tutorials.

do you have a video on how turning a quilt on a long arm ?? love u videos
@LeahDay5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like your pantograph was too wide for your longarm machine. I would switch to straight lines through the end of the quilt and from now on you'll know you can't quilt pantographs that wide on that longarm. The reason is the quilt builds up on the back bar and this limits the space you have to quilt in, sometimes 2-3 inches by the time you reach the end of the quilt!
