Very interesting. You didn't mention the distinction between Windows Home, Windows Professional, and Windows Servers, so may I assume that Active Directories and Domain Controllers are available for all current variants of Windows?
@nobytes24 жыл бұрын
No, as far as I know AD is only available in the server editions.

Would a domain controller use the same operating systems as clients? or is there a specific operating system DCs use?
@ServerAcademy4 жыл бұрын
Domain Controllers use Windows Server. The "AD DS" server role is what turns Windows Server into a domain controller. You can install several other server roles as well as listed here: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/server-core/server-core-roles-and-services. Windows clients could be other Windows Server OS, or Windows 10/7/etc. Hope that helps.

Because it's an invention of Microsoft. They excel at designs that bring them income, and don't do so well in areas that bring little income, such as bug fixing.

Modern software loves to invent specialized words and software mechanisms, so there is an extra hurdle to learning. It helps make customers more dependent on Microsoft and so become a more certain source of income for Microsoft. There is also an extra hurdle for users as each level of complexity must be dealt with in added daily operations and in additional maintenance operations. I've never seen much usefulness in Microsoft's "enterprise-level" functionality, since it also provides scripting, and almost any remote or advanced administration task can be done with the help of scripting.
