There are three boilers in our 24/7 steam plant and we have a disagreement about what is best for the refractory. Currently, we run one boiler for three days at a time and just boost the other boilers when they get below 50 psi. Some of us think it is better to run one boiler for 8 hours and then switch to the second boiler for 8 hours and then the third boiler for 8 hours. Question: Which method is better for the health of the refractory?

At 50 psi, the refractory is probably not absorbing moisture, but also is not at heavy load temperatures either. As long as you bring on the next boiler on low, and transition slowly to back down the previous lead boiler, you are doing more than most consider doing. For more specific recommendations, it would be useful to know the type and size of boiler. If you have a history of refractory issues, some backstory would help as well. Hopefully that helps and thanks for the comment!

The sticker says "Making Bollers Greener". Anyone else see that misspelling?
