Thank you for the wonderful video. I am planning on volunteering to be an Elangomat for my lodges fall ordeal and I found this very helpful. I found your lodges use of the black dangle to signify that one has gone through the training and participated as an Elangomat interesting. In my lodge (Owaneco 313) we have a special patch that connects to the bottom of our lodge flap, extending it to show a Elangomat guiding an ordeal member.

Great video Scouterstan! As a former Elangomat Chairman myself, there is no more important job than the Elangomat! For Elangomat training, there is a nationally standardized training under the Unit, Chapter, Lodge Support section of the national website! I would be interested in a video explaining the role of a Nimat and the program that lodges can offer! Keep up the good work! -WWW 🔺

Thanks for the suggested links. I put a few in the video description but I don't think that many people look at them. Elangomats are critical to recruitment and retention just like Den Chiefs are for Troops. Two critical positions with unfortunate little regard to their importance. WWW YIB🔺

Hey I’ve recently found your videos really helpful and interesting. I was wondering if you could make a video on the National Outdoors Award, and also one on the new Hornaday award (I think it’s the Distinguished Conservation Service Award) I have started to think about my eagle project and want to try to see if I can make it qualify for the DCS award too. Thanks for helping me better understand scouting.

Thank you for joining us here in our community. I have thought about doing some videos on conservation awards but was waiting for them to be more stable in the new requirements. Season 5 is mapped out for now but will put it on the whiteboard for Season 6 starting next year. Eagle projects should be thought of as a stand-alone type of project. My advice on Eagle projects is to find a recipient first and fulfill a need for that recipient. I have had Life Scouts try to combine merit badge requirements into Eagle projects. Merit Badge counselors are required to go by the requirements as written without substitutions or changes of any kind. On the other hand, an Eagle project can change and is covered in the workbook. Of course, you could work with the same recipient on separate projects like a conservation theme. Eagle projects will need 4 approvals before any work or fundraising is done. Talk with your Eagle Scout Mentor about your ideals, before you get committed to a project concept. Thank you so much for subscribing and joining the conversation. Good Scouting to you. YIS⚜

Do you have to be brotherhood to be an elangomat?
@ScouterStan2 жыл бұрын
It’s recommended but not required as far as I know. Talk with your Chapter Chief and Advisor about it. YIB⚜

Question, is there a set elangomat training curriculum? How would I get the black pocket strips too?
@ScouterStan3 жыл бұрын
Most of the position training within the Lodge is the responsibility of your Lodge and Chapter. I included a link to the PDF of the Elangomat Guidebook within the video description. But be careful to consider your reasons for taking on the responsibilities of the Elangomat duties. One should ask themselves, am I doing it for the recognition (patch) or is that something that I feel I should do for my Chapter’s benefit? Remember the words printed on the back of your Spirit of the Arrow (SOA) handouts. “Ponder my words carefully.” Elangomat service is critical to the success of each clan within the Ordeal. The duties extend beyond just the Ordeal into the year, before the Ordeal member takes on Brotherhood. Many people believe that the role of the Elangomat is the most important within inductions. I know you are true of heart and have a willingness to serve others. WWW YIB⚜

Of course. Just finished my brotherhood ceremony, but to honor the traditions of the OA I’ll only say what they always tell us: have you seen the arrow? As a recipient of the vigil honor, I’m sure you know what the arrow represents, but I hope I’m making sense here. It’s always for the benefit of the OA, just like the vigil honor, never earned for the conscious effort for recognition. The elangomat as well, it is for the benefit of the OA.

@@ethan2077 That’s a great mentality!! As Arrowmen of this cheerful service, it’s only right to help other scouts find the arrow after the profound experience we have had in the Order. I strongly suggest getting involved in your lodge’s ceremonies team in bettering your understanding of our induction process. Additionally, check out Polestar Induction Leadership Training on the national website (oa-bsa.org/resources/inductions/polestar)

My old lodge used to offer a special lodge flap. I still have it to this day. To bad my council camp & lodge is no longer operating, otherwise I'd might do it again. The next nearest scout camp to me is very far south & I dunno if I'd wanna drive that far.

Hey stan I'm wondering if I can be an elangomat? I'm 19 years old which from my understanding the oa considers youth. YIS Brice
@ScouterStan Жыл бұрын
The Order of the Arrow has youth members from Scouts BSA, Venture, Sea Scouts, and Explorers. The OA follows the youth requirements for each of the organizations it supports. Youth or adult membership in the Order of the Arrow qualifies individuals to volunteer as Elangomats regardless of age. Typically the clan that the Elangomat would be assigned to is kept age appropriate. I hope this answers your question. Thank you so much for stepping up and volunteering for such a critical role within the OA. YIS⚜

Wow out of sync. But good info.
@ScouterStan3 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that. Sometimes the audio sync is messed up with the HD rendering for mobile. This problem occurs at different regional feed servers on the net. KZbin is working on the issue and should have it fixed soon. I’m so glad you enjoyed the content of the video. Thank you for bringing the sync issue to my attention. YIS⚜
