Being able to type out Siri requests is really gonna come in handy I can't tell you how many times I've been in a situation where I wanted to use Siri but be quiet at the same time.

Being able to filter out screenshots has been something I've been waiting years for! Sadly it doesn't remember that setting (for example they reappear when your force close and re-open the photos app). I also still hope they add the ability in the future to make albums that are completely separate from your main "camera roll" Being able to require Face ID to open the phone app is also something I've been waiting for, nor more butt dialing! The only downside is there is no notifications of missed calls when you do that with no way to re-allow them... Also you can't Face ID to open for the Contacts app? Doesn't make sense

Why does it seem like everyone is confused about this? Apple is using their own ai LLM but so that they won’t have “I can search the web for that” Siri now gives you the option to accept every time help from open ai for more complex things! But 90% of this is apples internal LLM and Siri!

This is exactly right. So, SO many people don’t understand this so they downgrade this (and anything done by Apple) and start trolling. I understand some people will troll but when you watch most other videos and a majority of comment are trolls and idiots, it’s obvious that there is a strong anti-Apple sentiment running its course. This is a trend and not anything contributory or meaningful. It’s just people being mean for sport. Thanks for being cordial about it all. 👍

Thanks for the video. Watched entire WWDC this year. Excited about what I heard in terms of 'smarting up' Siri. But, I walked away thinking that Apple Intelligence was Apple just using ChatGPT but restricting it by adding Apple's strict privacy controls. Was not clear that Apple Intelligence was an Apple developed/built LLM platform. If Apple Intelligence is Apple-owned then I do like gAI being used in a 'personal context' vs enterprise thereby keeping your information and data on your personal device.

Apple Intelligence is Apple owned and is often run on device. Some requests go to Apple’s servers built as a private computer cloud. Only general knowledge requests may be handed off to ChatGPT. Even in that case you have the option to use ChatGPT or refuse to send the request.

You and others criticizing Elon may not fully grasp the specifics of "what information is shared with OpenAI upon user request." Similarly, Apple has indicated that it might send your information to their servers as needed to fulfill requests. The question remains: What exactly is shared, and which model processes the data? Despite assurances of no logging, a server is still a server. I'm quite interested in finding out which models are processing the user requests. While many of us are enthusiastic about Apple's Intelligence , including myself, it's hard to completely trust a highly intelligent AI model and the potential for misuse by malicious actors. There's no such thing as a free lunch; there's always a catch.

I often have my windows up against each other (and the side of the screen). It works pretty well that the kind of softly snap to the right place. That tiling with the space between the windows will drive me nuts. I really hope that the soft snapping is not going away.

This was very informative. I saw Elon's tweets and was concerned for a minute, but once I saw this, it clarified some of the questions I had. I figured Apple would do their own AI, and I like how they're adding security to the iCloud. I hope they make more storage for the iCloud at base-level (at least upon upgrading ur phone), bc my dad keeps a lot of photos and he's running out of storage and I don't wanna' buy cloud storage, if u can get more baseline storage upon upgrading the phone. I hope I'm making sense 😂

Apple is planning to hardcode Apple intelligence into Apple silicon, so every apple device that runs on apple silicon automatically has AI capabilities.

Planning? From M1 series chips they've had a neural engine for AI tasks. And starting with the A17 chip in iPhone 15 Pro and up has the same thing. That's why the AI features are only available on M1 and up macs and A17 phones and above.

I've had a Apple email account going back to when they first offered them. Yes I use the built-in Mail app. I'm hoping the mail app features come to macOS, and iPadOS besides iOS.

If you go to accessibility settings for Siri, you can already turn on type to Siri. It’s not new. It’s been there for a long time.

Something most tech reviewers are glossing over or failing to mention (no offense Justine) is that in order to benefit from Apple Intelligence you have to have iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max due to the A17 chip requirement. I’d be pretty annoyed if I just bought a new iPhone 15 and already it’s old tech because of the next iOS update. Tech reviewers just aren’t mentioning it.

I do not use the mail app. Both Gmail and the mail app seem limited in their own respects. I also don’t like having wasted hard drive space on my Mac. I keep GMail over web with the 15GB they provide. Which is good! If they have Mail a revamp look I’d jump in.. Apple Int. Might change that approach 💚👊🖤

Great point about AI efforts mostly being actually ML to this point. I'd love to see Siri able to add items to, say, my grocery list app, but the access issues and privacy concerns with doing stuff like that will have to be addressed. Of course, when it comes to security, nobody really does it better than Apple. I do use the mail app because it lets me manage my non-google accounts (the accounts I have for my website emails) as well as my Google accounts. I've caught AI chatbots making mistakes and contradicting themselves, so I do tend to double-check them. It's important to recognize that AI is a LANGUAGE model, not a LOGIC model. I haven't understood the big deal about the cross-platform messaging, but the read receipts will be handy. I'm not sure how I feel about letting a device manage my photos, but I do take an unfortunate lot of accidental screenshots. Funny, I never noticed that my iPad didn't have a calculator! Thanks iJ! But one question that bothers me, what about all Apple devices before the A17 Pro Chip? How is Apple considering those regarding the new Apple Intelligence, is Siri gonna stay dumb? Do they adopt some features? I can’t imagine how this works. Me for example with the 14 Pro, having a neural engine on the A16 chip, wouldn’t be able to use those features anyway, because the neural engine is too slow to process on device..? I’d like to know how they plan on doing things in this regard, will they leave all users with older devices behind..
