I did a solo trip to Italy in 2017 and visited Milan, Bologna, Rome, Naples, and Positano. Bologna was the city that I left which I had the best connection with. The food was the best in Italy by far! Prices weren't outrageous like in Milan, Rome and Positano- the people were exceptionally kind, and personally I never felt a hint of danger while I was there. Naples was also unreal, even though it gets a bad rap around Italy. The city flies by the seat of its pants on a daily basis and is quite unpredictable, but if you want an eye opening classic Italian experience, go to Naples. I stayed near "Via Duomo". Highly recommend to anyone who is on the fence about Naples.

You didn't chose very well, the best in Italy are actually the small italian cities in the north. Try Sirmione, Trento, Verona, Padova, Venice, Udine, Parma, Firenze or also you can go outside of Italy to experience the "ex Italy" or the territories that Italy lost during the years but are still quintessentially italian like Rovigno in Istria or Nice in France.
@francesca_4153 жыл бұрын
Naples doesn’t represent the classic Italy at all… Rome and Florence do. Naples represent Naples, it’s a unique city with a unique mentality and maybe other cities in Calabria region can relate. The other regions in southern italy are also very different, Naples is particularly caotic for italians too… it’s Naples
@joeltoth70733 жыл бұрын
@@francesca_415 Yea i see what you're saying, and you're obviously correct. I'm Canadian, so when we see Italy in movies or on TV, a lot of it is Naples driven, if that makes sense. So the idea of Italy in my head is based around what I had seen in my childhood. So to me, I felt like I had finally arrived in Italy. But like I said, you are correct, even the Neapolitans didn't call themselves Italian, they always referred to themselves as Neapolitans. "Classic" was the wrong terminology.

I don't know who he is, I saw this video because of the youtube suggestions but after hearing that "shut up" while someone was singing, his way of looking at migrants (Pakistani or North African) mistaking them for Italians ... well, the boy is not very smart and has wrong stereotypes in his head. @joe Nelsom: Before a trip you need to know where you are going. Choose a city known to be full of young university students, notoriously leftist, the probability of finding people singing or painting in the streets is higher. You can't complain. If he wanted more sophistication and calm he should choose to go to Lake Como or Venice. Immigration is the big problem in Europe (which weighs particularly on the countries bordering the Mediterranean sea such as Spain, France, Italy, Greece). Many North Africans and Middle Easterners are irregularly moving from one country to another in Europe. Even a child would understand that they are illegal immigrants.

Parmesan cheese is a specialty of Parma (not too far from Bologna, actually), in Bologna you should order tagliatelle (which you did), tortellini, lasagne, crescentine, tigelle...
@Andrew147833 жыл бұрын
The cheese it's from Reggio Emilia not Parma...
@nicolanobili21133 жыл бұрын
@@Andrew14783 This is unclear, since it appeared in some Medieval documents of a couple of abbeys between the modern provinces of Parma and Reggio Emilia. But besides determining the precise birthplace of this cheese, one thing is for sure: Parmesan cheese is NOT a speciality of Bologna, therefore my correction is more than justified.
@Andrew147833 жыл бұрын
@@nicolanobili2113 Parmigiano Reggiano originates from the foothills of Bibbiano, currently in the province of Reggio Emilia. The fact that this area was for a long time, under the direct control of the Duchy of Parma, meant that there were obvious future repercussions in terms of visibility and belonging. Nobody denies the origin of the many Parma products including ham, culatello, shoulder of S. Secondo, etc. Not the cheese though ..
@nicolanobili21133 жыл бұрын
@@Andrew14783 Thank you for your explanation. Actually, I read that Bibbiano is one of the two potential birthplaces of Parmesan cheese, I can't remember the other one, but it's in the current province of Parma. The point is: there are few documents dating back to that time, it is hard to determine which is the oldest and in any case there might be other places where that kind of cheese was created even before that, without leaving any written evidence. It doesn't matter much, though: in the video, the author said that the cheese is a speciality from Bologna and, although Bologna is one of the few places where this cheese is legally produced even today, it is safe to say that it was a mistake.
