I’ve been practicing for a few years and always struggled to understand what DBT has to offer beyond just combining a bunch of already good concepts on their own. Thanks for confirming that.

This video gave a good explanation of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I didn't realize this modality was to specifically treat individuals with borderline personality. I also didn't know that it was a program only modality comprised of a treatment team. We are using this modality in our research proposal about anger. It will be interesting to see what we find

I enjoyed learning more about DBT. I previously did some research for another class. I like that therapists are provided support. I also like that clients go through both individual therapy and group therapy.

South Pacific private, (SPP), in Curl Curl, Sydney, Australia is exactly everything that you described. I didn’t even know it was DBT. Clients a mix of bi polar, anxiety, depression, personality and psychiatric distortions, (disorder offends me), an array of addicts living all together. Is so impactful, Felt like I was reprogrammed… Amazing! Just goes to show how living in a village type situation pretty much is the cure for so many of these things. The brain, mind and soul really is not meant to live anonymously like the way we do… surrounding one another yet in isolation… and it has easily been like that long before COVID.. where is my village.. oh look it’s inside that bottle of meds

I like that this modality was created specifically for Borderline Personality Disorder. This overview is helpful in that the complex components are easier to comprehend. I understand that it is typically delivered through a team. I would like to hear more about individual delivery of DBT.

I had not known much about DBT, this video did a great job at explaining what it is. I am interested in leaning more on the content of the five functions.

Very interesting. I was not familiar with DBT previously. I can see how a complex disorder such as BPD would require a complex treatment that requires multiple practitioners and facets. I am glad to hear about the required therapist support component. It is important to remember that the therapist is human and is effected by the course of therapy also.

I can see why a group effort is needed in DBT. BPD is a very difficult disorder to treat and a team approach will help the client and the therapist.

After recently completing a treatment program for MDD which incorporated some aspects of DBT, I am looking forward to continuing my study. Due to expense, it will have to be independent study. I like the multi pronged approach with support to clinician and am surprised that clinician support isn't required in all other treatment modalities. Just seems common sensical. I can see the content being part of general HS mental health programming, too. The content, role playing and reflection aspects are ways to connect with different learning styles and reinforce absorbing information long term.

DBT appears to be a very complex treatment with various components taken from other modalities. I do like that this therapy is directed toward personality disorders because many of the theories studied so far appear to more so be designated toward treating depression, anxiety, and other more apparent mental health conditions. As a whole, this therapy is a bit difficult for me to follow, likely because it has not been discussed as in-depth as others. However, this video did an excellent job of helping me to understand the vital main components of DBT, and I will likely use this video for a refresher, as needed, in the future.

Hi, I'm not from an English speaking area, but as I understand DBT has its limitations. What modalities produce results in BPD therapy?

One of the recommended psychotherapy managements for Borderline Personality Disorder is the Mentalisation based therapy . I would like to ask what's Mentalisation based therapy ?

Dr. Grande, if DBT is too complex and doesn't hold as much scientific merit as other modalities, what modalities would you recommend for more long-term effectiveness in treating a person with suicidality, addictions, and borderline behaviors???

Todd Boothbee Personality disorders don't develop in adulthood, that's why there's such a strong emphasis on BPD caused by childhood trauma.

Never head of DBT used in such a manner. I have run into the group DBT and found it useless. What you describe seems to be more effective.

P.s. you don’t have to have the whole program to improve. Educate yourself to the best of your ability and try IFS, EMDR, and groups that have compassionate and self education goals. Knowledge is power. The more you know the easier it will be for you to search out the right help and recognize it when you see it.

After studying this for our research proposal last semester, I wonder if DBT could be modified in any way to treat other personality disorders, or if they are so uniquely complex that techniques of DBT would not be modifiable.

What would Hans Eysenck have said of DBT? not very much I think. Furthermore, CBT Ellis only painted a behaviorist whitewash over a superstructure built by Aaron and Julian Beck not very creditworthy I should say

It seems as though you're not terribly enthused about this form of treatment or at least that's how you're coming off to me which is fine but I disagree I can see this form of treatment having a huge benefit for many people and I'm talking outside of the diagnosis of BPD I can see this working for all sorts of different personalities What I'd like to see is a new mode of delivery I'm eating take all the principles tater tot and get them out of the box the tight little box that they're already in and put them into a group setting much like you would find in AA Let the people teach the principles like it's done in AA I can see it really working with the support of your peers keeping you in line helping you through your struggles 24 hours a day seven days a week 365 days a year you've got the people take it out of the hands of the therapist because they're the ones that make it difficult take money out of the picture and Wallah there you have it no offense to therapist psychologist psychiatrist who are trying to make a living but I could really see this working
