I'm very conflicted. On the one hand, I'm hype to see what they will do with Terry and Mai in the SF6 system. But on the other hand it's a) too soon and b) half the season roster being guest is whack. Bison looks sick and you can tell they are getting quite creative with character mechanics so they may actually cook with Elena as well.

(Time to put on MY tinfoil hat) When they interviewed Nakayama about why they choose Elena as the only returning SF3 character. His response was that they wanted an African representative and the game doesn't have a capoeira user in it. Nothing about her being an SF3 character. If we look at the leaked base roster, each character art had their country's flag next to them. Also, you meet each character in World tour in either Metro City, Nayshall (the game's fictional Middle East nation), or a specific country with just the 1 fighter. I think if a character already occupies the country another character is from, then they most likely won't get added. But, if they live in a country that hasn't been added yet then they have a decent chance. Hakan being (I think) the only Turkish Wrestler in mainline Street Fighter and being from Turkey means he's very likely. Unfortunately, now I feel like Makoto and Sean are less likely since Japan and Brazil are already occupied. Hopefully, I'm wrong or they at least find a way to include them in Metro City or Nayshall.

I think the guest characters are put in at the optimal times for advertising the new Fatal Fury game, this is probably why it seems strange or heavy handed to you. Just 1 wouldve been cool, but 2? I agree it's too much. There was a rumour floating around that season 2 was going to be 6 characters, and if that were the case then both guests would have been fine, as they essentially would've been bonuses, however it takes too long for them to add characters and too many characters are missing for half of the pass to be guests. For reference, there are now going to be more Fatal Fury characters than there are SF3, SF4, and (if we count Luke as an SF6 newcomer) is tied with SF5.

If I look at the fighting games I own, most of them have Terry Bogard as a playable character. About a third of them are games made by SNK. I do not need to play Terry and Mai in Street Fighter 6. I can play them in just about everything else.

The guest character complaint is really weird but I assume it's because of how badly guest characters were done recently. Lets go over this in recent memory; That guy from The Walking Dead, Noctis from Final Fantasy, Nolan from Invisible, Homelander, Peacemaker, etc. A bunch of people with no relation to fighting games being guests in a fighting game. Than we have Terry and Mai with deep history in fighting games and capcom themselves being put on the same pedestal as other guest characters. I see people complaining about the Street Fighter 6 guests completely ignoring the guests' influence on fighting games as a whole. I'm glad they are here and happy to see what the dev team does with them.

Outside of like Sakura at best, there is no one more popular in the genre then Terry or Mai that are Street Fighter characters. The rest are essentially cool additions but not that popular.

Illuminati used 2B as an example of a guest character, who is also not a fighting game character, on the same level as fighting game characters Terry and Mai. Do you see what I mean by comparing non fighting game characters and forcing those non fighting game characters to take slots for a fighting game character who people honestly like? For some reason the people who are upset at a pair of KoF characters in SF6 are saying they are just as intrusive as non fighting game characters put into as guests into a fighting game. I love this idea of getting Guest Characters in earlier into the games life. Akira felt like the BIG guest for SFV because she finally brought Rival Schools into the SF main games, but she was right near the end of the games life. I would be fine with the guest characters if the game didn't miss a lot of iconic characters in the current state, that's the only reason why it kind of blows. Urien, Dudley, Alex, Makoto, Sagat, Sakura, Balrog, Yun, Guy, Cody, Rose, Vega, Karin, Ibuki, so many icons missing and list could go on ... And Winter 2025 for the last character is way too long wait time, we might never get even some of the characters mentioned before for years

While I personally like the year 2 characters, it is a bit much adding Mai, I don't even think the 4 character thing is that bad cause if Mai was Dudley or something I feel like everyone would be down overall. Though she's probably the character I'm the most interested to see how she's translated into SF6 and if the Fatal Fury characters will have any gameplay things from FF or KOF mechanic wise. Whether it be a government deal or not I kinda don't believe that in year 2 only SF6 will have guest characters. I believe years down the line even more characters from other FG franchises will be added in. Thats pretty much the one thing that makes this not seem as sus as when the eventual other guests come in it's not going to be suspicious.

I usually use team two and a half men so with geese, terry, or rock I’m hyped. However what I think is that this dlc lacks a proper headliner character. M. Bison while he’s the OG baddie isn’t really a headliner and guest characters shouldn’t be headliners. Here is my theory for Dictator: He is a replacement body that has gone rogue and stolen his master's identity. You can see him punching and absorbing the Psycho Power in the trailer. The Psycho Power can also be heard saying "inconceivable." It would also explain why he is no longer voiced by Norio Wakamoto... because this guy isn't the actual Dictator.

Terry is the face of SNK and Mai is one of the most famous female characters in fighting games! I literally said they should add terry for so long since he's my favorite and these two franchises is like brothers, i always thought SF should start adding guest characters because look what it did for T7 popularity! Weird take: you say why would they use Elena when she's not even top 5 popularity in sf3. But in the same breath be dissapointed that the guest chars are 2 of the most popular snk chars. But your point isnt lost on me. Do you have to be excited? Not at all. But I think we're past the time of folks pretending to be overly fake hyped. Most seem happy, at least initially. Which is a good thing.

I've been a charge character player for a quarter of a century (I'm old), Bison is my boy so I'm mad happy about that. But I do agree that 2 guest characters this early is a bit shit. I like Terry, Mai I can take or leave. I'd have preferred Dudley and Hugo instead though.

I found Terry in smash and loved him. Played him in KOF 15 and really liked him there. I think I would’ve preferred Iori but I also really like Terry. If you swapped Elena for Urien and changed Mai to anyone else it would’ve been perfect for me. Probably change mains twice in one season.

Dude I really appreciate that you commented on the Saudi situation, I wasn't aware of how much involvement they had in the FG industry. I thought the guest characters were already a bit sussy but now it really sounds like there's something being it. I really hope they make Terry and Mai cool af in this game, because I really don't care about them.

I feel that. Terry and Mai are probably the most archetypical run-of-the-mill character choices as guest characters. I would have been just as hyped if there were only one. And yeah, I'm looking for cooler characters to make their appearance in SF so they can bring some extra sauce. 2B, even if she's common, she's not something you'd expect in SF. I think that's the major problem with this selection. It's way too *safe*.

So I’m excited mostly for the fact that this’ll be the first SF in history to have 3rd party guests, but the picks specifically feel kind of bland (SNK are always putting Terry and Mai in everything). If it was Kyo and Iori however, then we’d be cooking! My real controversial opinion, I hate that Bison is back. I’m really tired of Capcom’s over reliance on SF2. This game takes place years after 5 and 3 (timeline wise), JP (while yes he was a former shadaloo member) was looking to be a great new main antagonist…but nah, we have to revive Bison AGAIN. It’s like they’re too scared to make a new true villain unless it’s Shadaloo and Bison…

The thing is that SNK is still niche compared to Capcom, even after Terry being in Smash Bros. Iori & K', while popular, are nowhere near as iconic as Chun-Li & Cammy. Nakoruru isn't as iconic as Jill Valentine is. As for M. Bison, he looks as intimidating as ever, though his new theme in 6 doesn't quite live up to his Alpha 3 theme, which felt and sounded more menacing. I'd love to see Crimson Viper, Vega, Ibuki, and The Lee Brothers return in 6!

I'm honestly more hyped for season 2 than I was for 1, and I wasn't even that interested in most of the characters before this game. My initial thoughts were that Terry is awesome, Mai is unnecessary, Elena is eh but the devs will probably have fun with her so she'll be cool, and bringing back Bison after making such a big deal out of killing him felt cheap, but after his trailer they won me over on gameplay. Season 1 felt like a lot of its characters looked better but weren't very interesting in gameplay, and after a season of "oops all mobility", "oops all gimmicks", "oops all plus frames", and "oops all except health", having a charcter with multiple interesting aspects to his gameplan is really refreshing, to the point that I recently picked up the game again for the first time in months after Bison's trailer. (It also helps that he actually has good anti-projectile options, which sf6 is sorely lacking right now.) Also while most of the pass doesn't stand out much visually to me (especially compared to s1), I really like Bison's new look, he's got a lot of nice little details (like the cracks at the base of his arm when he uses purple psycho power), and the sorta desperado look, while a little cartoony, kinda fits him as a fallen villain (also because he's roaming Mexico now). Jiyuna just doesn't understand the raw fashion of wearing a cape with no shirt

Your Saudi theory totally makes sense. I was thinking something wasn’t right but couldn’t think what. I was even thinking maybe bcos S2 characters got leaked a few months ago, Capcom switched gears and kept some of the leaks but decided replace the rest with the guest ones they were working on, but your theory makes much more sense. It’s disappointing to me as well. It wouldn’t have been so bad if they were releasing 6 characters but it’s 4 with 2 guests???? Like what???? oh well, it’s whatever to me, though I am interested to see how they rework Elena for SF6, but thats not anything hype. Terry and Mai are so generic. Like at least pick other interesting KoF fighters. Well anyway let’s see how it goes.
