Lim Tean - all your points are noted. There's nothing you or anyone can do until there are more than enough opposition in parliament to "pursue" this. We will have to live with no transparency for now. Keep calm & wait for your time, it will come..

Singaporeans please wake up. No point in complaining when you always vote for PAP. For those of us who has voted oppositions please continue to do so and encourage people you know to educate them in democracy. We need more oppositions in parliament maybe even a new goverment. Lets say to all those people who say dont fix what is not broken, we tell them that lets see what is not seen. Change is a neccessity in this current goverment. Some of the current ministers are good. Most of them just want tenure. We are an educated lot. Wouldn't be hard to see the current parliament is not up to the benchmark we would like it to be. Not one that can table a law with relatively ease without much discussion.

Good speech. The issue is where is the transparency? Tax payers as stake holders in Temasik has the right to know how much is the CEO of Temasek Holding is paid as salary? ,

Why stop at the CEO of TH? If being a tax payer gives you such a right, why not ask for a release of salaries for all staff grades across all ministries, stat boards, GLCs etc?

Bullying it own citizens is easier to bully foreigners, esp Taiwan. A house guard dog can only bite it's owners but not outsiders.
@westwoodly4 жыл бұрын
Scuffle with Taiwan and you invariably get entangled with China with its One China policy. Singapore Government is wise. It doesn't want to get hooked with the bait Taiwan is dangling. Already Taiwan has hooked a few ASEAN countries by offering face masks to them, albeit considered a kind humane act. China is pushing in the same direction too. Singapore's relationship must remain status quo - because it makes all 3 "countries" half-contented, though not truly happy. A convenient compromise. Singapore values Taiwan for its military and other links, whilst Taiwan values Singapore for its own China's affair - like a backdoor entry or casual chitchat over the neighbour' s fence.

Whether it is 100millions or not, the actual exact figure does not really matter. Give or take a couple of millions, or even 10 of millions, the amount is still mind boggling to all that anyone (besides extraordinary people the likes of Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Li Ka Shing for example) can earn so much in a small little country like ours. Not to mention the fact that this particular individual does not have any particularly inherent capabilities to be generating wealth of this kind at all.The disparity of income, even compared to the highest income group of our society, is just too huge to be ignored. What's worse is that the individual is an elite from the highest echelon of our country, associated with the power-that-is. With earning like that, how can those in power possibly be able to empathise with the plights of the common man in the streets ? Does it come as a surprise then that a condescending tone was used by the same person to berate the commoners for "yelping like a spoilt brat", when they were voicing out their displeasure of the $3.99 delivery charge that Fairprice had decided to impose for deliveries at a time like this, when there is a Circuit Breaker measure going on and people are told not to leave their house if possible ? To these super duper high earners, they would never ever be able to see things from the ground level (like the average Joes), and thereby would never be able to understand what their problems and concerns are, even if they had sincerely wanted to. Thereby, lies the many ills that the common Singaporeans are having and feeling now, as far as how they feel that things are going for them under the currently ruling party is concerned.

What's the point of creating hatred? The focus is wrong. Seriously prefer if you have solutions instead. In the grand scheme of things on a country level $99million is not that significant. If this is all the opposition party have to say, I hope they don't come to power. A campaign should be built on substance not division.

Even if u know how much every minister earn, what can u do? I agree, however, if POFMA served, then minister need to tell the truth. What can ordinary Singaporeans do abt PM hse or salary of PM's family? Now shld be a time to stand together n fight COVID. Pls be focus, esp now, most imp is staying alive. You shld worry abt ppl losing jobs, business closing, can ppl afford to pay their loans, how to put food on table etc. Now is not the time to talk abt Norwegian funds etc.
@williamlucas58524 жыл бұрын
@ Jacqueline Bary It is not just a matter of "what can u do ?", when it comes to the transparency of the salaries of civil servants (ministers, as you'd said), or the salary of a non-public servant but whose remuneration comes from tax payer's money. This is call accountability and ensuring that a country's reserve is being put to the best use, in the interest of the nation as a whole. In simple layman's term, it is knowing how much we are paying for a service and whether that 'service' is actually worth its price. Otherwise, we would be like getting the short end of the stick, so to speak, isn't it ? Yes, of course now should be the time "to stand together n fight COVID". No one is disputing that, nor should be distracted from the focus of doing it. But then again, this video was made in reference to the POFMA originated by the G itself.The person in the vid has the right to explain and clarify the matter from his point of view on this matter and let others make their own decision whether the actions taken against him is justifiable or not. The call to "to stand together n fight COVID" and not to be distracted from what's the more important issues at hand currently, should be better directed at whoever, in the first place, that had started any other distraction that is not covid-19 related, which resulted in the need for this video to be made. Also, worrying abt "ppl losing jobs", "businesses closing", "putting food on the table", "staying alive" etc etc.......is the job of whichever govt that is serving the country now. That's what they are for and why Sg is paying them one of the highest salary in the world to do it. To put all these "worries" onto anybody else, is just a rather unrealistic and impractical request, is it not ?
@mengbond31214 жыл бұрын

Temasek belongs to government,therefore Temasek get money(funds) from government to invest in their Temasek.No different in using the people's money to make Temasek a rich company,the only differences is that they(government)know how to do it legally.Therefore,is no suprised that Ho Ching or Temasek earned 900 million or 100 billion.

Draw your own conclusion : My conclusion is that all politicians, including Lim Tean, (which auto-pop up on my KZbin page) are opportunists. They seized upon a chance to be a darling of the community - a sort of pop idol - to be famous or get voted into Parliament or Government to be even more famous, infamous or popular. But whether they can improve the lives of ordinary folks like me is a different story, a different ball game. After investing in a few minutes of my waking time listening, me casual ordinary folks also want to put my 2 cents worth of thought in return. Although the speech does have some valid points about Temasek staff salary, there are also many holes which need to be plugged - even if they are just logical syllogistic arguments. Just 3 examples for reader's interest : (1) TH Staff salary is a known : IRAS checks returns every year (sama sama Lim Tean's salary), but not every man in the street knows how much LT earns. That's confidential - unless you want to boast. (2) Everybody got dreams for status, fame or money such as : to be coach of Manchester City FC, CEO or Chairman of Temasek, CEO of DBS Bank, to be voted into Parliament and become a PM, to be the first person to discover vaccine for the Covid-19 disease, and so on. No difference with Ho Ching or Lim Tean or Steven Lim - or even me! (3) No one person is the same; everyone is different. They may share the same DNA but different genes. There is only one Xi Jin Ping, one Lim Tean, one Ho Ching and only "one wife of a PM who is managing Temasek". There is no replica. (I ordinary folk have no political affiliation, just for info)
