I completely reversed my hypoglycemia about 14 years ago by going reasonably low carb. I felt so great that I started doing long distance running and then I could add some carbs back in, but the good carbs, not junk. This also reversed my CFS and most hormonal issues. I've never looked back. I love Dr Berg because everything he says is spot on with my own experiences and philosophies :)

@@nancyfahey7518 I stopped peanut butter months ago, when I finally figured out it was links to the heavy cramps in the stomach and headache that I used to have. Now I can't eat them either without risk of the same symptoms. Options brake away year after year. I have no explanation.

I’m 15 and have this issue protein helps long term definitely. In the morning eggs are reliable. I also found tuna, smoked beef and other meat based things reliable for lunch. Let’s get this straight I have never had any sort of hypoglycemic attack on a day where I woke up and ate eggs or had a chicken schnitzel sandwich for lunch. Very helpful. Thank you. First I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia at 26 and the reason may be that I went back to school full time and tried to work almost full time, so my eating habits got completely screw up: skipping breakfast, candy bars for lunches etc. Doing that for 3 years and I end up having hypoglycemic episode in the mall. After I got my diagnosis I fixed my food quality and intake schedule and it went away for about 10 years. Once we feel healthy we often start sliding back into carelessness. It has been about a year now that I started skipping breakfast and indulging in sweets (especially around holidays) and yesterday I had another episode - dizziness, tiredness, sweating, body tremors and loss of consciousness. All day went down the drain because I could not concentrate. Reason I am writing all this is to share an understanding that we cannot neglect ourselves. Our body is a system, just like a car. If we don't eat properly, don't exercise regularly at least 30 minutes a day, if we don't hydrate our body, our system will start malfunction. Being healthy is impossible when we lead an unhealthy lifestyle.

@@stevenf5902 I too have been too busy too eat well for the past 7 years. Feeling tired, weak, brain fog, confusion, blurry vision, etc. Only about a year ago did I realize it is xonnected to my under eating, but, even though I have made some progress, I still do not always eat properly and the symptoms come back again. It is a cycle, of eating well, and not eating well. Fewling good and strong, and then weak and tired. I over ate because my body would tell me to, hungry. But I never made the connection that I was hungry because I was under eating. When I was on high school I used to skip lunch in order to save money to buy music casettes. So I kind of have always been like this. But not as much as these past 7 years.

Number two those tablets are glucose tablets they will react fast and bring your sugar up. If you eat sweets your body has to turn it into glucose then bring your sugar up. That’s my opinion.

For those of you who have struggled with low blood sugar for most of your lives, there’s also an important thing called complex carbohydrates. You can find it in yams, potatoes, whole grain foods, and some nuts (like peanuts). Speaking from experience, if you’re not on meds and you have high protein in your diet, you might have something wrong with your pancreas or even something called congenital hyperinsulinism. Check with your doctors

I'm 63 now and carry cereal breakfast bars and protein shakes with me as I'm having problems more often again. Now I'm researching what I need to know and do to get this back under control. It's amazing that you pointed out protein and why! Fairly recently I was telling a neighbor that I've come to realize that after eating protein (meat) I feel as good as good gets. I realize it doesn't have to just be meat but meat does tend to be a luxury once in awhile and I definitely made a connection! Your video did indeed simplify hypoglycemia as well as how our bodies work to keep our blood sugar level.

These videos about hypoglycemia that you've posted have REALLY helped me to understand better hypoglycemia is and how I can better deal with the situation. As you've stated before, many doctors have told me to drink some juice or get some sugar in me to help the situation. I've been trying to diet and every day I face that drop and then start the cycle all over again. I've tried intermittent fasting and only eating when I become hungry but my blood sugar drops before I even feel hungry and then I frantically eat something I've been led to believe will help me. So thank you for making these videos and helping people like me know what is really going on.

ColoradoFLgrl too many keytones in your system essentially mean you are going to start pissing out calories. Your kidneys aren’t meant to filter out that level of keytones. That makes perfect sense. The one time I didn't eat my black beans before my jog like I normally do, my glucose went all the way down to 55. I was weak and a little shaky but managed to get home about 3 minutes away to eat. Thanks Dr Berg. You nailed it for sure!!!

Dr. Berg, I am a 45 your old male with type 2 diabetes for about 15 years my last A1C was 7.7. I'm taking 30 units of Lantus nightly and 4mg Glimepride twice daily (morn/nite). Been doing this for a while now. Last night I had a major crisis with Hypoglycemia. I started working out harder the last 3 weeks. Yesterday for breakfast I had a 30 gram protein shake, for lunch had a very nice salad with walnuts, pecans, roasted peppers, olives, tomatoes, etc..and sliced turkey around 1 pm in afternoon. I worked out really hard power lifting legs around 5 pm then had a post workout shake which had brownie brittle (appx 20 carbs), honey (appx 20 carbs), peanut butter, choc. milk and protein powder. Then went to din around 7pm and had a cup of chicken noodle soup and a spinach salad with grilled chicken on it. At 11 PM last night I checked my sugar and it was 82. I took my insulin and pill and I made a peanut & jelly on a white bread with milk. I started eating it about 30 minutes after checking my sugar and I noticed I was starting to shake bad. I started to panic so I started eating the sandwich really fast. When I got half way through I stopped and chugged the glass of milk. I turned to my wife and said hon please get my meter fast. She ran into the kitchen and I followed behind her. I began to start sweating. I took my sugar and it was at 28. I really began to panic and told my wife get me juice anything none diet (orange, Gatorade, or Cranberry, anything). While she was doing that I start staggering to my kitchen table to sit. She opened the OJ and I chugged half the bottle. I bang to start slurring and my wife started panicking and didn't know what to do so she called 911. I was soaked with sweat really really bad everywhere my heart was pounding really hard and rapid heart rate and a couple times I bumped my head on the kitchen table. All I can remember is my wife yelling stay with me Frank, don't you leave me stay with me. She said I looked like I was going to pass out was scared she was going to lose me. It wasn't good. I continued to eat anything with sugar so I ate 10 oreo cookies, drank 4 more cups of milk, had a couple pieces of chocolate. 20 minutes after eating this I tested my sugar while the cops showed up and it was still 28. At this point The paramedics showed up and the one paramedic put an IV on me and inject glucose to raise it. As I started to come back she said I was so low that no matter what I ate it wont bring it up. Then they had my wife make me an egg sandwich to help stablize my sugar. Then they took me to the hospital. I've been low before but never this bad and just wanted to know what did I do wrong that caused this and if this happens again what is the best way to handle this? Thank you in advance for all your help and videos, Frank G.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate the information you leave here. I bought enzymes from you a while back. Just started taking them yesterday. The first thing that happened was I got really nauseous but then it evened out and I felt more normal than I have in maybe ever. I gave up meat last April because it makes me sick. I get muscle pains and stomach issues whenever I have need protein, sometimes even just a little bit. This may correct that. I like to have eggs with some cheese for breakfast and a banana. That's my favorite. Sometimes a bagel with cream cheese as well depending on how hungry I am. This is excellent information I have awful blood sugar issues. And I know if I don't do something soon, I'm going to end up a diabetic. Thank you!

I can't thank you enough for your videos and books and supplements, they are all AWESOME! And me falling off the wagon is not at all attributed towards anything you did, that was my fault. I don't smoke or drink, sugar is my vice but at least I'm trying!! Again!!

Just to put this out there, I had a glucose test, about 30 years ago, when I was pregnant and the doctor, then, told me that they were concerned as I definitely did not have diabetes, but, my response was that my blood sugar dropped too low. And, I know I was the sort of person who got seriously ill, when I was a kid, if I waited too long to eat. I just recently took a quiz where if you get 20 then you are almost certainly hypoglycemic, and, I got a 98. I've been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and adrenal fatigue, and a thyroid problem which the endocrinologist said was not from a diseased thyroid, but, was from something irritating my thyroid and making it react strangely. It doesn't happen all the time. I have been diagnosed with some allergies and I believe I have an allergy to wheat and corn. and nightshades. I've done various things, where I had some success at getting a little healthier by changing my eating habits in various ways (when, what, how), exercising, stress relief techniques, supplements, but, I have never gotten to the point where I found something that continued to work and where I actually felt anything approaching good and awake. Though, the closest I got to that was when I had worked my way down to no longer having diet soda, using ACV often, eating almost entirely leafy greens with other veggies and animal proteins added as condiments, basically, and not eating any grains at all. Right now, I am thinking, maybe the problem with that way of eating was that I wasn't eating enough protein! I was eating no nuts or seeds, no eggs, and only small amounts of meat. But, I am still confused in that I have definite signs of hypoglycemia some of the time and definite signs of diabetes some of the time, but, most of the rest of the time, it's just feeling achy, a little tired and having a weak immune system.

Makes better sense than eating cookies before bedtime. Started eliminating fruit and grains since watching your videos and began to feel better. I only eat when hungry, which is twice a day, and usually never after 6: 00 pm. It's hard to wake up. What's best as snack, perhaps?

Thanks doctor! I've had very low blood sugar after intermittent fasting and intense exercise for the last 3 weeks. I'm going to try having protein the next time it drops, and see how my blood sugar reacts. My only worry is that there isn't really much glycogen in my muscles. After fasting and exercising for a few days my arms are noticeably smaller, and they balloon back up after a feeding day lol. I've been told that's a result of glycogen depletion.

This is what I’ve been looking for, thank you. I know it’s 6 years old but it was the part I needed to understand. Glycogen… now it makes sense why I found that if I added fat to my meals and tried to up the protein too ( I am on keto ) I could avoid hypoglycaemia which was becoming a real worry. I am not over weight not diabetic but want a healthier happier lifestyle. I like keto It makes sense. Thanks so much.

Hi Dr.Berg! I really need to reverse my hypoglycemia. Sometimes I don't feel the effects because I am distracted doing something and then I need to bring it up ASAP! Eating a protein snack doesn't bring it up quickly enough and I get slurred speech, brain fog and sweats with feelings of passing out. This is when I have some juice or something else that is basically all sugar. I know it's bad and just continuing the vicious cycle but I have had semi seizures where my fingers and toes start drawing up but I am still conscious and am afraid I'll slip into a coma or something of I don't eat some sugar when this happens. I have noticed when I eat beans (usually a cup of refried beans , bean and bacon soup, or other canned whole beans) my blood sugar stays stable for a good 3-4 hrs depending on my activity level. I know that beans are a slow complex carb with a low glycemic load and that they are a great source of fiber too, but I was wondering if they are a suffient source of the protein you spoke of in your video? Can I reverse my hypoglycemia by having some sort of bean with every meal and will the protein from the beans help to eliminate my sugar cravings as well? Thanks for all the time and effort you put into making these videos. It's really appreciated!

@humancurehealth8962

if you go on a strict lean protein diet (reference to video on our channel) for 1-3 months, you will reverse and heal damage done. And can eat some sugar again. Abuse of carbs/sugar/fat causes this, and a very lean protein and leafy greens diet needs to be done to actually cure it. If blood sugar is very low when waking up, eat small amount of rice 1 hour before bed.
