not sure if the culture has changed...but i recall when i worked with a competitor agent in London 15 years ago, Foxtons agents would drive around pulling down competitor agents signs on their days off..When co-markeing property their staff would prevent other agents from conducting viewings..keys were often switched!! .. the more ruthless would intimidate vendors suggesting they would seek their fee when other agents introduced a buyer unless the vendor switched buyers (to the Foxtons buyer).. at the time it was akin to a cult....yes and they over valued and then wore vendors down..always threatening to claim their fee long after they were dis-instructed..

Hi Jay, Thank you for a thorough and intelligent explanation. Why did you choose lettings over sales?

Hi buddy Great video very insightful and informative. I recently decided to switch careers and have been applying for some trainee estate agent roles. I have no prior sales experience but did put a lot of time and effort into my CV and cover letter. I applied to Foxtons and to my surprise they called me the very next day and have invited me to their main office in Chiswick to introduce myself and take part in a some group work exercises. After this they will deliberate as to who makes it through to the final stage which is an interview. I’m very nervous as I haven’t done an interview in over 10 years but want to be prepared as much as possible. Would you be so kind as to give me any further insight as to what questions they may ask, what the group exercise could be or any tips that may help me stand out from other candidates. Cheers

Hi, Can I ask how your interview went? My partner is invited for one on Monday and he is in a similar situation than you. He is also looking to switch careers and was thinking of becoming an estate agent and Foxton called him too. Could you share your experience, please? He doesn't have any experience either so it would be nice to hear something from someone who is in a similar situation. Also, can I ask what salary they offer upon successful application? What they mentioned on the phone seems to be under the minimum wage 😱 I would be really grateful If I could get some insight from you. Thank you.

@@jeremyjacobltd He didn't attend the interview as they later called him again and told him it would only pay 20K base, instead of the advertised 25K and he would be required to work from Chiswick, which is completely the other side of London, takes us 2.5 hours to get there and another 2.5 to get back home, so he said no. So he is still in security 🤷🏻♀️ Why on Earth would they advertise the job with a 25K base, when it is actually only 20K??🤦♀️ Plus, the housing market is shaking now, who knows if he could sell enough to make a living with these inflations and prices etc...

@@jeremyjacobltd I got the job! I’ve absolutely no idea how but I’m over the moon and I genuinely look forward to going to work in a morning. I’ve more or less been involved in construction since I left school so it is a completely different environment for me. Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming trying to keep on top of everything and the training week was very intense as it was a lot of information to take in. But no two days are the same and everybody is really nice. I joined the sales team in the Shepherd’s Bush and brook green office second week of Jan and the whole team there, lettings and sales are amazing. They made me feel right at home and are always there to help. Even managed to get my first offer in February which was also accepted so I’m very much looking forward to the end of month meeting!

forgot to mention..their marketing was brilliant. They would all drive in sequence (entourage style) like an invading army down Chiswick High street 15-20 deep!! Past the other agents shop fronts..

Yes, memories of requiring (as an office) to drive for 30 ish mins every Friday in an army of Foxtons cars to a regional meeting.

@@jeremyjacobltd yes fantastic marketing but let down by too many public school Gordon Gekko's...my partner recounts working at Foxtons Islington for a few months... at the regional monthly meetings the negotiators who did not hit their target were lined and paraded at the front...in shaming exercises...tuff times the early 2000's at Foxtons

@@geoffvalero3516 oh wow, I can’t say I ever came across this. Foxtons were excellent at rewarding you and parading you at the front if you had done well.
