Hey I really want to level up my intelligence on this subject. Could you point me to some sort of resource in understanding more logic and reasoning? -Thanks!

This is just if/then information theory. While it is logical. I don't think it properly addresses the broader question of "what is logic". It is simply one example of something that is logical. albeit incredibly useful in programing and relevent.

Interesting comment.If I understand you correctly, I agree with your claim that I've presented logic as only the systematic study of the _relationships_ between statements. And I agree that's rather narrow. But I disagree with your claim that's a problem. Logic is not general inquiry. It's not the broad search for truth. It's the systematizing of one mode of getting at the truth-i.e., making correct inferences from known truths.

Don't try too hard and you'll get it. I used to struggle with it but bit by bit. I understand it better now.

is logic logical? Yes, it is good reasoning but you just showed an example of good reasoning. That doesn't answer the question what is logic. Just curious to hear your thoughts on this!

Logic is the study of correct reasoning. There's good and bad reasoning and logic tries to give a systematic account of what principles and rules and methods make up good reasoning. I only gave a simple example of good reasoning because to give a full account requires taking a logic class! 🙂

@@LetsGetLogical interessting, where could I turn to see logic explained through principles, rules, and methods?

Any good introduction to logic book would do it. I like Paul Herrick, Introduction to Logic.

Ya but logic doesn't always get you to truth, as truth is so complex and simple at the same time, that truth at time does not seem logical.
@LetsGetLogical7 ай бұрын
Correct. Logic is about going _from_ truth to new truths. But if your starting point is mistaken... all bets are off. Putting the same point a little differently, all reasoning is reasoning _from_ something. The end result will depend on (a) the quality of your reasoning but also (b) the quality of what you _started_ from.

@@LetsGetLogical More so I'm saying the Highest level of truths are in fact illogical. Where logic may be benefitial for things that are logical - logic gets you no where for truths that are illogical.
