I know I didn't really talk about the "meaning behind the genre" like I usually do, but if you want to know, it's pretty much what I said in my Metallica video. And yes, Melodic Thrash is an S Tier genre. Songs used: >Master of Puppets, Battery, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Sad but True, and Seek and Destroy by Metallica. >Exodus by Exodus. >Never Walk Alone (A Call to Arms), Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, and Skin O' My Teeth by Megadeth. >Be All, End All by Anthrax. >Black Magic and Blood Red by Slayer. >Souls of Black and So Many Lies by Testament. >Pleasure to Kill and World War Now by Kreator. >Strange Deception by Holy Moses. >Constant Motion and In the Name of God by Dream Theater. >Dead Heart in a Dead World by Nevermore. >Tears Don't Fall and Scream Aim Fire by Bullet For My Valentine. >Down From the Sky by Trivium. >Last Breath by Lazarus AD. >Redemption by Shadows Fall. >Beautiful Mourning, Locust, Ghosts Will Haunt My Bones, Sail Into the Black, and Game Over by Machine Head. >Unholy Confessions, Almost Easy, and Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold. >Death to All but Metal by Steel Panther. >Shockwave and Warriors of Time by Black Tide. >Hallowed be Thy Name by Iron Maiden. >Falling Asleep by Death Angel. >Dystopia by Iced Earth. >Elimination by Overkill. >Who's to Blame by Sacred Reich. >Into the Black by Generation Kill. >Instruments of Random Murder by Watchtower. >.44 Caliber Brain Surgery by Demolition Hammer.

Thrash was influenced by classic heavy metal of late 70s and punk, so I feel there's two thrash metals out there: 1)Thrash that's basically punk, but using tropes found in heavy metal riffing and song structure. The Municipal Waste type that often likes to use toxic green in their album artworks 2)Thrash that's basically heavy metal but using punky influences to increase the aggression and energy Thrash is kaindava spectrum

Makes sense, I don't like pure death metal but I like melodeath. Think I just like "heavy melody" (term I just came up with, so ®™) as opposed to pure metal genres. Also explains why a lot of my favorite bands were showcased in this video, A7X being number 1. I think the melody aspect adds more substance and a level of accessibility for normies to get into metal.

Melodic thrash isn't generally considered a genre, but there is a line between Megadeth and Slayer in terms of melody and extremism. It is definitely on a spectrum, though. So it's not the most defined metal genre.

Machine Head! Whatever mix of genres their albums are, they have some of my top favorite songs. I absolutely love bands that are both Melodic *and* sorta Groove, and you’ll find that mostly in thrash but I kinda lean towards death metal and metalcore in technique and construction… hence why I like Trivium and Orbit Culture, for example. Lotta bands mentioned here that I like, so it’s a sign that I should keep this video in mind

I really like those 3 Machine Head albums I mentioned in the video. A shame that their vocalist has an ego and made utter cringe with the 2 records afterwards, but I do come back to those 3 albums still. I wish there were more bands with that sound that still made good music.

Prog as a genre means something different than the act of actually progressing. Metallica was very progressive on their first five albums. They stayed ahead of the curve and kept making new and interesting evolutions on the core thrash idea with each album. I like videos that make me reflect on things, even if it is something as mundane as a genre label. Great video as usual.

Black Tide is the single greatest tragedy in the history of metalcore. They were so promising and had a great debut album, Light of Above. People called them “the new Metallica”. Then their second record came out, Post Mortem, which was a huge upgrade having a lot more of a metalcore sound even diving a little bit into emo territory. This album was so good that their song Honest Eyes even made its way into the intro sequence of Street Fighter X Tekken, which is easily one of the best crossover fighting games of all time. They were BIG and then in 2013 they came out with their EP Bite the Bullet, with a lot more of a generic sound, more Asking Alexandria adjacent than their old title of “the new Metallica”. And then in 2015 they released Chasing Shadows, their last album to date, with none of what made them great and original in their big years

I largely agree with the whole video but particularly with the ending segment about how Thrash has very few widely used subgenres (with the exception of tech thrash and crossover) compared to other genres of metal and instead everything from Metallica to Demolition Hammer just gets called thrash. Another subgenre of thrash that I'd suggest is brutal thrash metal. This is thrash metal which has a significant death metal element to it's sound but still remains under the thrash umbrella instead of the death metal one. When compared to regular thrash it generally has harsher vocals, more aggressive and relentless drumming and the guitars generally use more tremolo picking and the solos have more of that death metal feel to them and less shredding. The lyrics also tend to focus more so on satanic imagery and gore rather than politics and partying. Some more well known bands I'd include in this would be Demolition Hammer, Morbid Saint, Haunting the Chapel to Reign in Blood era Slayer, Schizophernia to Arise era Sepultura and Pleasure to Kill era Kreator

Melodic Thrash Metal doesn't exist because Thrash Metal itself is made up of fragments of "Power Chord" traditional Heavy Metal + "The speed"of Speed Metal + "The melody" of Power Metal + the rawness of Punk and angry and furious/madness vocals, although they have never been characterized by having a perfect voice like heavy or power metal has. You will always find melody in any thrash metal songs, which is why your video is understood as something like "Melodic Melodic Thrash Metal", or "Melodic Melodic Metalcore". Neoclassical Thrash Metal doesn't exist either, just because it has solos/arpeggios inspired by classical music doesn't mean that Coroner/Warbringer/Exmortus is a band from a musical subgenre that is not consolidated/doesn't exist. There's a reason why Tech Thrash Metal, or Prog Thrash Metal exists because they are built through complex riff/melodies to play.

Ok I know this one is about to be really controversial, BUT… would you guys consider Ghost songs to be predominantly Metal n’ Roll, with some gothic/occult rock and pop influences? Or just rock? I think it’s a particularly fitting title with Prequelle and Meliora with tunes like Rats, Faith, From the Pinnacle…, and I’d even Argue Cirice, although it is much more “occult” or “gothic” in the intro, with more piano interludes

So is it or is it not prog? Maybe prog on its own isn’t really a thing, and Death’s distinct sound and the bands mentioned in this video, which you previously described as prog + smth, are in fact melodic smth instead, not the “purest form”, but still distinctly and clearly a form of melodic thrash (or death in the case of Death) As you can see I still don’t understand prog, or at least the stuff that is not purely prog. I know what pure prog means but not the rest of prog lol (I know this contradicts what I said initially, but it’s because people call anything “prog” and it confuses me because it’s never just “prog” or even prog at all bc it’s instead a new genre)
