Neurocuriosity means exactly what it sounds like: it means being curious about your brain.
My hope is that this channel can be a comfortable space for folks who are questioning their brain, their neurotype, and their place in this world.
I know I could have used a channel like this a few years ago. I hope it helps you now.
😊 Hi, I'm Megan Griffith, I'm an auDHD life coach for the neurocurious, meaning I love helping people who know they're neurodivergent, but aren't quite sure specifically where they fit yet.
🚨 DISCLAIMER: I am a life coach, not a therapist or doctor. I cannot diagnose anything, especially not from a KZbin video. Please use my videos as informational, rather than diagnostic. 🚨

I am autistic and do not have ADHD. I have severe anxiety, social anxiety, CPTSD, dyspraxia, alexithymia, and fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed as autistic level 2 in November 2022 at 64 years old, and turned 66 in Feb this year. I see where you are coming from, but I don’t think the name of your channel was harmful or wrong, as it is not inappropriate to use the term neurodivergent qualifying that you specialise in autism and ADHD in your work as a coach. There are many people who call themselves neurodivergent without qualifying what their neurodivergence is. I use the word neurodivergent when I am talking about the broader spectrum of the neurodivergent community because it is an umbrella that holds many neurotypes. I think when the word neurodivergent was penned a lot of people thought it was a safer term to protect themselves from judgement, but I don’t think that’s really a reality. When referring to myself I simply say I am autistic rather than neurodivergent as it remains vague to someone on the receiving end, but I also realise that is what some people want for their own comfort and protection.💜

Oh, cool new channel name! Even though I did not know what neurodivergence was until a few years ago, I knew I mentally diverged from the norm. I did have different diagnoses along the way, and for most of my life I have not had appropriate care. I continue to explore different facets of neurodivergence. I was misdiagnosed previously, even when I told them I suspected one of my current correct diagnoses. The meds I take now are contraindicated with bipolar, but my first extremely brief assessment concluded bipolar disorder. I did not believe the assessment, with good reason, but I lost hope for years. It had taken so much courage to even seek a diagnosis and treatment. I was scared. Now I realize that my denial and holding back was due to stigma and lack of access to appropriate care, rather than concerns based on evidence.

Thank you, neurocurious perfectly describes me! The key thing at my age is how to make sense of my life, and figure out how to make it run better, rather than seeking a formal diagnosis. I have learned that I am certainly neurodivergent (despite having written in the past about being neurotypical 🙄 ) and probably autistic; that self-diagnosis has already proved useful, in that I understand better why certain things happened and I am gathering better techniques to help cope with how my brain works. It's like when I discovered I'm genetically predisposed to dementia: the info has allowed me to take steps to delay its onset.

I'm 50 and was diagnosed ADHD @ 48 and Autism (Aspi) @ 49. Both of my kids are also AuDHD. My oldest is 21 he was diagnosed ADHD @ 6 and ASD (Aspi) @ 20, my youngest is 16.5 and ADHD @ 14 and in the process of getting official diagnosis' for ASD (Aspi) now. To say I became Neurocurious is an understatement Lol. It became my special interest/ hyper focus for Months. And I'm still unable to explain it to others Lol. It's a lot, and kind of confusing when you have both. I understand things in my head, but can't verbalize any of it 🤦🏻‍♀️. Thank you for this video. Educating neurotypicals is the only way to achieve inclusion and acceptance 🫂

Hiya, I'm a new subscriber! Waiting for my autism diagnosis (I found out I'm nearly at the top of the waiting list last week, so hopefully next month or soon after). Wondering how many others here hit peri-menopause & discovered they couldn't mask & force themselves to conform any more?!

🎉Yeesssss!! My whole "mental health" world fell apart when my estrogen levels plummeted. (at 52) However, hormone replacement therapy corrected my levels, but not my functioning. So, guess where I am now? HERE!🤔 Questioning if I also have something else besides the adhd I was diagnosed with years ago and handled relatively well all my life. 🤦‍♀️ Although I know darn well that there's a whole bunch of trauma in there, too. (childhood abuse, lost a child) Went through the whole process of therapists telling me I'm bipolar 2, treatment resistant major depression, anxiety, ptsd, cptsd, pick a possible personality disorder. 😅 You get the idea. It took me a long while to accept adhd, because of that stigma. 😠 There's no way those neuro-psyche tests are correct, cuz adhd is all about little boys who can't sit still in class, right? So, if someone like myself who likes to learn, went to college for Sociology and Psychology, can still be so ignorant about neurodiversities, then how much more is the average dude on the street going to be as well? In my case, KZbin really did open my eyes. I'm just careful who I get info from, and to watch a variety of content creators as well as some content from institutions and organizations. 😊

@@Sunnyflower67 Surely there should be some kind of medical awareness of how (peri-)menopause affects autists?! But there doesn't seem to be anything out there, nor any interest in helping us. No wonder the suicide rate is so high 😕

I know life is beautiful & all, but I cannot be ok with baby meltdowns in the background. 😢 Love what your doing with the channel & really wish I could finish this video, but I've had some recent trauma in the motherhood department & absolutely can't - could barely handle the happy newborn sounds; negative ones are a hell no for me currently. Not trying to gripe, just thought I'd support your content by commenting for the algorithm gods & leave a bit of feedback that some may struggle with it as a misophonia trigger... Possibly consider working on improving your audio recording setup?? I mean, I actually really love the real person with a real life vibe, but I believe crying babies is pretty triggering to most people. Much love, girly, I'll return when my own trauma is a bit more processed & my heart isnt ripped open by the presence of your wounderful new twinsies. 💔🙃
