I had the exposed tooth root for probably 10 years. My doctor put me on fosomax and a week later I saw my dentist, he had planned to pull 4 teeth but refused when he learned I was on fosamax. I can't thank him enough for getting me off that drug. I changed my diet to meat based, eliminated all processed foods, started weight training and lost 26lbs. I went to a new dentist a few months later, had a deep cleaning and no mention of need to pull teeth. My bones, teeth in jaw much stronger, no more loose teeth and the onj HEALED closed! 😂🎉😂

I got my gum stabbed with food and created a hole exposing my jaw bone. It's super painful. My dentist said no cavities or anything. The tissue should heal itself. It's been a week of constant pain and hole is the same size. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover dental surgeons. Not sure what to do :(

Basically, if you see a dentist, and if the dentist sees severe gingival recession or necrosis in a way that the alveolar bone is very openly exposed, that is likely jaw osteonecrosis. I think ONJ can also increase the risk of gum disease and even tooth loss if the materials causing the jaw osteonecrosis hits the teeth or the gumline supporting it.

I have FCOD (florid cemento osseous dysplasia) dx'd when I was 25. 17 years ago I took bisphosphenates for 2 years for osteoporosis b/c of a T3 compression fracture. Only after many dental treatments over the years for non healing areas was I finally dx'd with ONJ related to this med. The specialist 2 yrs ago said there was nothing that can be done. Very depressing living with a painful area with inflammation. Sadly this info was too late for me.

I don't think that I have exposed bone but every tooth in my mouth is completely shot.

Here’s a better idea. Do not take any of these bisphosphonates. They are dangerous for your bones, the very thing that they are supposed to strengthen. For osteoporosis eat a diet rich in essential vitamins and minerals, be sure to eat plenty of dark green leafy vegetables, do weight bearing exercises, wear a weighted vest or ankle weights, dance like you mean it, go up and down stairs multiple times a day and give it some time. Yes, you will have to put in the work with no “magic pill”. Your body knows how to heal when you give it what it needs. I’m telling you, these drugs will complicate your osteoporosis.

The main reason I refuse to consume biphosphosates.
