Yes! There's a lot of people who don't recognize the meaning and power of a name, people who have just gone by one name their whole lives without questioning it or it being questioned by others. There's something special about having multiple names across a lifetime or at once.

I described vlogbrothers to my friend this week by saying 'you know at the beginning of a sermon when the preacher tells a story and then connects it to a greater idea or theme. That's kind of what they do' And then showed her three videos, spoke about all the books, cried when reading The Anthropocene Reviewed aloud, and my roomate cried telling her about Turtles and then rounded it off with explaining Dear Hank and John. And it all started with me trying to explain a linguistic thing I learned on Crash Course. To me that's what nerdfighteria is, what pizzamas and vlogbrothers and all of it is. All these synapses that make connections between joy and experience and hope and new ideas and sorrow. There was also some exalting of Sarah and how the Art Assignment really did make me feel like I could be an artist and about decreasing world suck and raising funds to improve child mortality in Sierra Leone and a million other rabbit trails of thought. Just like this comment that was going to be short but spiralled out.

I've been watching since 2009 (?) -- used to watch from the library after school because I still had dial-up at home. Commenting for one of the first times to tell about how I named my cats lol Sully stayed under our bed for the first two days so we named him after the Monsters Inc. character. Casper is mostly white and we got him on Halloween, so we named him after a friendly ghost. Friendly monsters as a category seems fitting for cats (and it might help Orin narrow down the options haha)

Hank, I'm sixteen weeks pregnant and have been struggling with names because none of them feel special or meaningful or right. I've been a Nerdfighter for more than a decade and was wondering if it would be somehow disrespectful or inappropriate to have my baby share a name with your son. I hope you get a response from Hank, but in the meantime--names that are meaningful to you are definitely going to help you make a good choice here, and you have plenty of time to decide. That said, picking a name for a tiny human based on a community that's focused on silliness, imagining people complexly, decreasing world suck, increasing awesome, and pizza--I think that's something really special. I hope your tiny human will also become a nerdfighter in their own time. You also can't go wrong with Ryan. Or Dave. Both excellent names with nerdfighteria in-jokes attached to them. Maybe pick John or Hank, or a variation of them? Jean, Giovanni, Evan, Ian, Ivan, Jack, Sean, Zane, maybe Jacqueline, Janet, Joan, Jeanne, Janna, Jane, Janice, Jolene, or Hannah for a girl? I remember a video going over how Hank was a derivative of John, and those are derived from that same origin. Except for Hannah, but that sounds similar to Hank (and could possibly be derived from “Johanna”, although it also can trace itself back to “Hana” (flower in Japanese) among other things)

I have explained Pizzamas to quite a few people. My explanation is a bit long, since I start at the beginning with Valerie and have to also explain who the Green bros are and what nerdfighteria is. I also could not decide on a name for my childhood cat when I was a kid and we also called her kitty in the meantime. Turns out, she got tired of the us taking so long and started only responding to Kitty. 15 years later, she’s still called Kitty and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Cheers to your kitty!

I have mixed feelings about the coupon thing, like I respect the not wanting to punish people who bought things early, but on the other hand there are people who don't have a lot of extra cash, so having a percent off code near the end of Pizzamas on the stock that is still in the shop is a way for those people to still acquire merch. *shrugs* On a completely different note, I have been enjoying these Pizzamas videos and "Kitty" is absolutely precious. I am all anticipation a to find out what Orin decides to name it.

Kitty is perfect and I love him. I was so sad to hear of Cameo’s passing, and I’m so happy your family was able to welcome in a new friend. My cat is named Charlotte, but I pretty much only refer to her as “Kitty,” unless she’s in trouble.

I believe there are two pizzamases, there is this, vlogbrothers pizzamas, videos every day, pizza jokes, charity, community, and then there is my Pizzamas, when my merch shows up much much later, and I get to go out into the world and spread just a small bit of pizzamas in my local community, I love to see the smiles on people’s faces and looks of confusion from others, that’s my pizzamas, when I get asked what that is and I can just answer pizza John, and when asked “what’s pizza John?” I can respond “I don’t know, but I love it.” That’s what’s magically about pizzamas to me, it’s love for something you will never truly understand, but that’s ok.

Mostly here for Kitty tbh, I’ve recently gained a huge soft spot for tabbies (I just lost a young one, he was such a cheeky, snuggly boy). He’s so cute and fluffy, and big feet too, maybe he’ll get really long and tall like the baby of my three boys who’d started off the smallest. Good to deliberate for a while on a name. I’m a big fan of the show Cats and there’s a whole song about naming them. I’ve just started fostering Slinky and his sister Almond Eyes. We have an older lady Lola, named by her previous owner like the new kittens. Also the dear tabby’s brothers Jasper and Sapphire. He was my Onyx, I had to go fancy with gemstones.
