Thanks so much Joseph! This is one of the many reasons why I started making tutorials here...I was getting so annoyed with “tutorials” that took ages to get to the point or ones that took us on a journey to the coffee shop and back! None of that here!! Just the information you need, nothing more, nothing less!! Lots more to come as well so keep checking back for more. 😁👍

I enjoy how you get straight to the information, no extensive intro sequences or promotions of you or your life, just straight up get to the point and teach us the details, its refreshing like when you look up a recipe online and you don't get 4 paragraphs of the chef's life story before they even go into the recipe and then when explaining the recipe they add in too many irrelevant life details hahaha

Really love watching your videos Mike! Interesting about the S&Q quality, so when shooting in XAVC S HD with record setting at 100p 100M, the video isn't slow motion (I"m very new to video). Does this mean you're saying to use this setting and then slow mo in post processing?
@mikesphotography2 жыл бұрын
Great to hear you're liking my videos Aaron, I'm having a lot of fun making them! With the XAVC S HD at 100p 100M, you have to slow it down in post, but the bonus is that you get sound with it, if needed. I use this whenever I want to use slowmo. so you can change the speed to 25% and it will still be smooth. I hope that helps. 😁👍

Hi mike! New sub here!! Out of topic question but really close to pulling the trigger on a Sony a7iii and am so confused on which lens to get as my first! Am considering the Sony zies 55 1.8 ? Would this be a good lens for general travel photography and video?? Or should I just start with the kit lense?? I’ve just been using my phone , GoPro and drone for photos and video and would like to step it up a bit! If you have time watch one of my videos to think if I would Benefit from a proper camera! Many thanks and keep up the vids 👍👍

Hi Nathan, I just watched your Yosemite video, looks like you guys had a great trip with some great weather!! It brought back some memories too, I was there back in 2010 and sooooo need to visit again!! The 55mm is a fantastic lens but as a prime it will be a little restricting especially for travel...Have you looked at the tamron 28-75mm 2.8? One of my friends has it and he loves the thing...I don't think it has left his camera since he bought it!! It's quite small as well! A third option would be to get the sony 50mm 1.8 and the 28-70mm kit lens...then you'll have a walkabout lens and the prime lens. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing, much appreciated!! 👍

Another good tip, Mike. Does the S&Q, when using it for time-lapse (1 or 2 frames per second) just record video (without sound) and remove the additional step of speeding it up in post if I just took a video instead?
@mikesphotography5 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen. Kind of...but you can set the shutter speed to follow the 180 degree rule in S&Q mode to give you really nice motion blur.

Hey dude! Got my a7iii. Having fun learning all the features yet I have no skill in photo composition or developing. lol. I’ll work at it. Anyway- was watching a video earlier on clear image zoom and crop mode. Did you have a video on that? Do you use the features? Opinion...?
@mikesphotography5 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, that’s excellent!! So now it’s time to learn about composition and developing!! 😁👍 I only use the crop mode when shooting video. For photos, it gives you about a 9 megapixel image as it crops in on the sensor so it’s the same as cropping in when editing. If I don’t have a video on it, I’ll add it to the list. I’m going to make a page on my website soon where I’ll be putting all my video links into categories and alphabetical order to make it easier for people to find things, so hopefully this will help when trying to find a video...I wish KZbin would offer an alphabetical option in the sort videos function! 😁👍

Sir Im a subscriber of your channel and appreciate the education we get absolutely free. I need a help regarding shooting video in manual mode. Before recording apparently theres no way to know the exact 16x9 frame in 3:2 screen. Markers only work in video mode which technically not a big help since the preview in video mode already shows the 16x9 before recording. Hope i was able to explain my question. Thanks
@mikesphotography5 жыл бұрын
No worries. I’m glad they are helping. In manual mode, you can set the aspect ratio of photos to 16:9. This will then show you the framing for the 16:9 video. That’s the only way I’ve found it would work if you shoot video in manual mode. Does that make sense?
@teesrakinara5 жыл бұрын

It is not 16 vs 100Mbps .. .it is 16vs25. In S&Q mode it is calculating 25fps, and in regular 100Mbps is 100fps . So you have to divide it by 4 to get same number of frames coded in a single second. And than there is also sound implemented inside in 100Mbps version so difference in image bitrate is even smaller. Is there a difference? Yes .. but it is not as big as people think.
@mikesphotography4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info Josip, yep, that was my bad math calculations...basically forgetting that one second at 100 frames would be split into 4. 👍
@Lefeugenikos4 жыл бұрын
is it possible to convert it back to normal speed ?
@mikesphotography4 жыл бұрын
When you film at the high frame rates, yes. All you do is speed up the footage. If you're at 120fps and output at 24fps, increase the speed x5, but with the slow frame rates, you can't. Does that make sense?
@Lefeugenikos4 жыл бұрын
If I speed up some movements look little weird
@mikesphotography4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's because the shutter speed then doesn't follow the 180 degree shutter rule when sped up, so the motion blur won't look quite right.
@Lefeugenikos4 жыл бұрын

There is no 4k for a timelapse right?
@mikesphotography2 жыл бұрын
The only way to get high Res timelapses is to use the interval mode and then build the timelapse afterwards. Then you'll have up to 6k. S&Q only offers 1080p though.

shame it doesn't create 4K timelapse videos.
@mikesphotography2 жыл бұрын
It would be good if we had that option in the S&Q mode.
@PollyTikkle Жыл бұрын
?The reason I am interested in S&Q is to film 4K in slow motion. Now if it does not do that adequately then what is the point of it? Is the point of it for time-lapse,,, and every time S&Q is suggested as a way to do slow mo should we simply know that it is essentially false advertising? ...and that it is really there to do time lapse and shitty slow mo?
@mikesphotography Жыл бұрын
It is a grab and go function really. I use S&Q to do a quickl timelapse test sometimes, and if it looks good, I'll then use the interval function. As for slow mo, I have it set to one of the program modes, so I can switch it to one of those and I know I will be shooting with the right frame rate to get the slow mo I want at the right bit rate.
