Service A1 Service is 6 things 1- change oil 2- Oil filter 3- check all fluids 4- check tires (tire label in door tire pressure 33 5- check break pads (breaks) 6- check /reset service indicator

Number to service letter in Mercedes indicates total ammount of services A and B added. So A3 means third service in total from car new. I have A7 now.

Technically you need to do car service every year. But some parts do not wear that quick, so these can be changed every 2 years. Lets say oil and filter must be changed yearly, but brake fluid must be changed every two years and so on. If you have AdBlue, it will be refilled on service B every two years. So it depends on your car specs, if it diesel/petrol, on model features. Also mileage is a factor. Details are in your car manual.
