I’ve ridden this quite a lot, and to stop your thighs from being crushed you need to slide forward in the seat so the lap bar falls in your actual lap, it becomes much more comfortable. I actually didn’t enjoy this ride until I figured this out and now it’s one of my favorites

Skyrush is pretty good, but definitely not as good a Bear and Runner, and the lap-bars have improved (marginally) from the first season. Overall my beef with HP (having worked there) is that historically, they build coasters that just don't live up to the hype; Strictly because they don't last long enough for as long as you have waited, especially when new. One factor that severely limits HP from greatness is the height ordinances. Essentially Skyrush is as tall as the township will allow them to go, and that's at the lowest point in the park. Correction, it is not above a lake, but a creek that historically (had a nasty habit of) floods during heavy rains. Hence why it is as elevated as it is, as well as one of the factors for why it just doesn't live up to they hype; It just can't utilize all of its height, and the existing area around the ride made it difficult to make it any longer. The park itself is already tight as it is, and I don't see it getting much better unless they can buy some land across Hershey Park Drive.
@coasterbot7 жыл бұрын
Rides don't have to be big or tall to be a lot of fun! Take Alton Towers for example, most of their roller coasters are less than 70ft, but they are all great!
@717dash_cam7 жыл бұрын
Not saying they have to be big or tall, but they just always seem to come out half-baked; Leaving you feel like they never fully completed the plan for full execution of what the ride could be. This has been a running theme with their recent coasters, and evidenced by the now defunct Roller Soaker. It lasted it's contract with many problems during its time at the park, and they dumped it to expand the water park. Then again, the water park proves the half baked idea again because once the water park closed Soaker had literally zero riders, because people thought it was closed. Now, for LaffTrak I was pleasantly surprised, as I thought I would hate it... but actually loved it. It's theme fits that area of the park that has more of the carnival style rides. Hershey likes to be a park of firsts, which unfortunately leads to ultimately cutting corners and being easily out done. I just prefer rides that are fully conceptualized to their most potential. Racer, Bear, WIldCat, are all great coasters. Comet is great, albeit I love the fact that it's a classic. Looper, a first on the east coast is great now that it has magnetic brakes. Runner is good, but comes to an unsatisfying end, same with Fahrenheit, and ultimately SkyRush. I know I'm gonna catch some flack from the WIldCat, but for what it is it's great. Sure you may walk with a concussion and whiplash but the ride has character. Heck even trailblazer is pretty good.
@CoasterFanatics7 жыл бұрын
The restraints won't crush your thighs as long as you get your hands in the air like they should be, lol. It's the same concept as a GCI millennium flyer train. If you hold onto the lap bar, odds are it's going to tighten up on you while going through some of these air time hills.
@StamfordBridge7 жыл бұрын
CoasterFanatics My hands are always in the air, and the thighs were still crushed. And for me the pain is not just the clamping down of the restraint - that actually doesn’t hurt in and of itself. It’s the tightness of the restraint combined with the ejector air. Because my thighs are held down across the middle, every time my whole body is thrown upward it feels like getting a really bad Charlie Horse (or like someone thwacking my thighs with a small bat - or, on the worst rides, as if my legs were positioned in a machine that, through opposing forces, was *trying* to break my legs).
@sophiesblog04897 жыл бұрын

@Calakapepe7 жыл бұрын
I disagree lol The only solace for me was when I would scoot forward so that the contract point of the lapbar was at my hips/ closer to my stomach... leaves a gap between my lower back and the back rest, which is scary.. but otherwise it's much more comfortable.
@StamfordBridge7 жыл бұрын
Calakapepe Yes! I said exactly the same thing elsewhere in this comment section (about scooting forward being the only help). Having my hands up made absolutely no difference; it was all about where on my leg that thing clamped down.

Very good video that educated me on some unknown facts about the coaster. If you read my comment on your other video I said that I was a ride operator at Hersheypark over the summer, which I was. Even though I have only worked there for 2 months, they were constant hours (meaning that what I worked in 2 months is comparable to another part-time job worker's shifts for 1 year - essentially full-time shifts for a part-time job). I got to know the ins and outs of the park and this coaster in particular (because I was ride operator for this coaster) during my time of employment. In fact, I worked a lot with the man that is shown on screen at 0:19. I learned some things that I did not know (e.g. SkyRush is nicknamed "Thigh-Crush"; the max speed of the ride is 76mph - I only knew that it was approx. 75mph; the station is based off of some of our state's most well-known train stations; etc.), but I also feel that there are some things that were omitted, maybe due to lack of importance or due to some unknown time-constraint (e.g. the drop is 213 feet; there is a lightning burn at the top of the coaster; it doesn't feature shoulder pads on the restraint because the ride does not go upside-down; the longest amount of time spent in the seats is during the loading and unloading of trains; the ride shuts down even for rain; overweight and tall people sit on the sky-seat, etc.) but overall you covered the basics and provided me with more knowledge than I possessed at the start of the video, and I thank you for that. Never stop making videos.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I'm sorry that I missed your previous comment. That's really interesting to hear about your work, as well as those additional facts. I live near Hershey Park and I used to go a lot. I think they toned it down a bit maybe made it a bit slower because the first time I went on it after it just opened, I blacked out for a number of seconds to the point where it scared me into thinking something was wrong with me lol and it was VERY intense. The next time I rode it a year afterward, it seemed slower and I’ve heard from a number of people the same thing.

I don't usually complain about pain when it comes to roller coasters. I've ridden so many rough woodies and many Vekoma and Arrows and I'm fond with it. Sometimes adds to the intensity. The only coaster surprisingly I complained about roughness on was Colossus at Thorpe Park. I was in denial, but it was tough in my head. But I rode the from after and it was better. I honestly don't remember the "pain" felt on Skyrush. I just remembered the positive and negative forces being great.

Haven't ridden Skyrush yet, almost did the last time I was at Hersheypark, but yet again ended up chickening out due to it's nickname of "Thigh crush" I didn't want my thighs to be crushed, my friends have been on it and didn't care too much for it, except for 1 and my dad. The thing that is funny though, my friend who enjoyed this rode Fahrenheit and got off looking like he'd seen a ghost! His wife on the other hand really wanted to ride Fahrenheit again.

This is what I think GO IN SPRINGTIME!! Lines are a teensy bit long but it’s worth it. Though they run one train on most of there rides..yep..go in springtime.

BlackJack I went last weekend and longest wait was 45minutes on Saturday. Subday I got to stay seated for 5 rides on Skyrush in a row

COASTER BOT The airtime hills apparently pull a whopping -2 G’s, comparable to coasters like El Toro. Very intense.

I nearly shit my pants on the Comet, so I don’t think I’d have very much fun on this. I would ride it for money, though.
@IllyrianStrength6 жыл бұрын
Just change the restraints then the ride would be fine, I'm not complaining that my legs hurt, but I know its a really good ride.
@armyfallatthediscotwentyon50196 жыл бұрын
Has anyone road this in 2018? I want to ride it for the first time but if the restraints are still bad I don't want to ride it. Can anyone tell me of they are good now
@coasterbot6 жыл бұрын
I'd give it a ride nevertheless! :)

COASTER BOT I'll try, I'm still working up the nerve. It took me forever to workup the nerve for Fahrenheit and I go Saturday so this will be the first time I've rode both

It’s painful after you ride it enough times in one day, but that airtime is insane. It’s more than worth the bruised thighs. Lol.
@coasterbot3 жыл бұрын
I'll keep this in mind when I eventually ride it one day ;)

I got to admit the inner part gave me the better ride experience but those airtime hills HURT.
@coasterbot5 жыл бұрын
Yeah they do look like they give very strong air!

What is Skyrush? The "thigh killing and neck killing" ride. If you wanna feel like your gonna die? I recommend Skyrush.
@steveo77712863 жыл бұрын
Is that why I love it so much? Lol
@elitefourjessica39686 жыл бұрын
I went on this with my mom and we always go on "insane" roller coaster, and when we went on it was terrible there was no straps that went over the shoulders or chest so me and mom held on for dear life, the next day we were there it was closed.
@coasterbot6 жыл бұрын
Roller coasters nowadays don't require over the shoulder restraints which cover the majority of your body. Skyrush has lap bars, which provide a more open and conformable ride experience. It is unfortunate the ride was closed the next day.

looks intense as f*ck; certainly very high on my bucket list. This might just be the best Intamin in the world, just look at that twisted camelback... The new Hyper at Energylandia might give this a run for its money, though :D

That's very true, the new hyper at Energylandia looks to be extremely interesting. :)

The wind blew so hard because Skyrush was so fast, we couldn't hear the other people's screams

Whoa that must have been weird! :)

This thing messed up my thighs for a week after I went there. If you ride on the sides it’s less painful, but it still sucks.

Dude this ride would be awesome if it had comfortable lapbars but it doesn't. The ejector hills slam your body into the restraints and it hurts so fucking bad that you'll be seriously dreading the next hill and youll just be wanting the ride to be over
@coasterbot5 жыл бұрын
I've heard similar thoughts before unfortunately.

It’s not a lake it is a stream going through the whole theme park
