Stonewalling is emotional abuse. Thank you for defining it so clearly!! I was in several relationships with men in the distant past who practiced this behavior & refused to take responsibility for their shit of their own & work on it. I left the relationships. When I decided way back then to never tolerate that behavior again I found my dating pool became very limited and has become smaller since. Unfortunately this is a really significant problem for heterosexual men. I decided its better to not be in a relationship than with someone who practices this emotional abuse.

My husband of 42 years does this. About four years ago I began calling him out regardless of the consequences because I felt invisible. It lead to some hard conversations. I let him be in his mood sometimes bc I am going to be disrespectful if I speak up. Once I am feeling clear about my feelings and the situation(if I know what triggered him) then I will have the difficult conversation. If it breaks the marriage, I can live with that too. There’s a lot of freedom and peace in not walking on egg shells.

Also - this behavior is becoming very common in platonic friendships & business relationships. I end them all when it appears and the first clear direct communication about it on my part is shut down or ignored because I know how it plays out for me - not good!

Being in a serious relationship and having a job that requires you to be gone for 28 days is hard. Especially when they do this for days and days at a time.

Thank you for your clear information. My partner and I are looking for solutions for difficult situations, but are also trapped in (too?) long seperations quite often. Perhaps the details described by you can be helpful.

@@JaysonGaddis so now we are going to explore the difference between •a short calmdown after peaked emotions, and •a too long silence, in which is no contact and only vagueness.
