"Kyrie Eleison" is Greek for "Lord, have mercy." It is used as a prayer in both Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox services. Greek was the original language of the New Testament, which was later translated to Latin. This song is credited to lead singer Richard Page, keyboardist Steve George and lyricist John Lang. Clearing up an urban legend that Page wrote the song after being attacked, John Lang told the Chicago Sun-Times of July 9th 2004: "Richard Page did write the music and melody, but I am the one who wrote the lyrics. I got the inspiration from singing it as a kid in an Episcopal church in Phoenix. Also, 'Kyrie' had nothing to do with Richard being assaulted, mainly because it wasn't Richard who was assaulted - it was me! But that happened three years before writing 'Kyrie,' and had nothing to do with that song." When this was a hit, very few people listening to Top 40 radio had any idea that they were singing "Lord Have Mercy, Down the Road that I must travel!" The religious significance was mostly lost. Mr. Mister was not a Christian band, but their frontman Richard Page considered this song a prayer. "I get a lot of power from meditation, from being still and realizing that what I'm doing is insignificant compared to the universe," he said. "That's what the song is all about." (Songfacts.com)

This song means so much to me, and I could listen to it for hours and never get bored. I remember adding this song to my iPod just before my senior trip to Europe, and listening to it while driving along the French Riviera. I found myself singing along with it, and when my classmates heard me, they told me to plug my iPod into our tour bus's PA system, and all of us sang along to the song, feeling like nothing could dampen our spirits. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, the Mediterranean was sapphire blue, and we were singing along to a song that cannot help but make you smile. One of my favourite memories of high school and every time I hear the song, I immediately flashback to that bus ride.😊

Latin - Kyrie - Lord - Eleison - Have Mercy Lord Have Mercy on the road I must travel! Ruach is Hebrew for Wind, so he mentions: The wind blows hard against this mountainside Across the sea into my soul It reaches into where I cannot hide Setting my feet upon the road So he is being filled with the Holy Spirit. The group got our generation into studying Latin, NT Greek, & Hebrew to understand this song! This was released in 1985 in my Senior Year of High School, and I felt like the future was unfolding with this song, as I would graduate in 1986, and my feet would hit the road for college, and I KNEW Yahweh/God would be with me. Song is as great today as it was 38 years ago! The entire "Welcome To The Real World" album is a treat to listen to!

This was one of the first albums I bought w/ my own money and I played it over and over for what must've been months - when you only have one or two tapes, that's what you played - and this is the song that grabbed me and made me want that album. In retrospect it's hard to say what I loved so much about this song. No doubt it's a good song, but I was very emotionally attached to this song for some reason at this age and I don't have that feeling anymore. Nonetheless it's imprint on my brain is unmistakable.
