One of the coolest aspects of the new Pokemon party system is the do-away with TM/HM. You can swap your Pokemons moves on the go. What that means is... as they unlock, they don't get forgotten in place of another one. You simply swap it out.

I will go with Oshawott. As much as I would love to have a Fire/Ghost Typhlosion since Ghost is one of my favorite types, I have more nostalgia for Samurott since I used one in White 2. Plus, I have a cousin around my age range who loves Typhlosion as he grew up with gen 2. That left me with either Rowlet or Oshawott. The choice is fine with me since I love water and dark types. Aside from my starter, the new hisuian pokemon that I am considering are Goodra, Zoroark, Sneasler, Electrode, and Arcanine. This may change, but I am feeling confident that this will be my final team.

Based on this video/analysis, I’m seriously considering choosing Samurott this time around. It’s got better stats, the best signature move, and has the pairings I was hoping for. I don’t really care about Basculegion or Avalugg, because tbh they’re two of my least favorite regional variants besides the starters. I’m really excited about Kleavor, Zoroark, Overquil, Braviary, and Ursaluna.

After the designs of the final evos got revealed; I’m currently debating between Oshawott and Rowlet. I love Cyndaquil’s line, and while H-Typhlosion looks hilarious with its face (as if it got back from a bar 😂), I don’t it’s my personal pick. If I go with Rowlet, it gives me a reason to use Basculegion and H-Arcanine without since Typhlosion and Samurott won’t be there to overlap the typing. But then I realize that Hisuian-Liligant, a form given to a Unova Grass Type that I adore and honestly needed something to enhance its movepool, ends up being Grass/Fighting as well…

For one it makes no sense in the evolution line, oshawott is a cute round otter, dewott is a more humanoid round otter, and samurott is a pointy fish seal. The design is objectively bad and the colors don’t work at all in the hisui version. This is a judgement based on art and character design, some people just like ugly things I guess

I'm going with Rowlet. Just from looks alone Hisuian Decidueye caught my attention- that autumnal color scheme, that's not a motif you see especially often on Grass-types (if at all!), and it's a real shame. And, yes, I also plan to use Sneasler, so there's gonna be some type overlap, but what can I say? I love me my Poison-types. To that end, you shouldn't be surprised that I also intend to use Overqwil. Basculegion's going on the team, too, no question there, and you, Dan, might be interested to know I'm also considering Yanmega. It's the last slot I'm undecided on right now, and while Hisuian Arcanine sounds pretty tempting, I'm considering my options here. One thing I'm thinking- Rhyperior. Never used it ingame, wouldn't mind giving it a go, this game seems like _the_ game to try using trade evo mons ingame. In any case, I'm so looking forward to giving this game a go. :) What I've seen thus far looks beyond awesome, and I can't wait to see how I fare with the new mechanics.

On paper, its the best starter, Hisuian Arcanines 4×weakness to water is horrendous. Hisuian Typhlosion has two immunities, more resistances thank weaknesses.

Speed drop is too much for me so no Rowlett. But if you were alrdy wanting to go the Cynd route, I still would. Not a huge diff in the end. Unless your end game team is more important to you than experiencing the game for what it is. GL either way!

It's hard. Decidueye was my starter in my first run through of Moon and I fell in love with it. Though I loved using Samurott in white 2 and water dark is a strong type combo for hisui. So I'm torn between the 2 starters

I'm going with Cyndaquil for a handful of reasons. It was my first ever starter when I picked up SoulSilver at 9 years old, I adore both fire and ghost types so the reveal of the typing made me excited as hell, and I really like Typhlosion's new design even without the flames. I know its supposed to be a weasel-bear thing but the new design just reminds me of a leopard gecko and I have a soft spot for them. Im beyond excited for this game to come out and I'm really thankful to aDrive for releasing update videos on the leaks and new information but keeping far away from any real story spoilers. I hope everyone else enjoys the game too!

Hisuian Typhlosion may not be very tanky, but it does have comparatively more resistances & immunities than the other two final starter evos. Not a drastic amount more, but all the same... That's part of the reason why I'm going for Cyndaquil as my starter. Another reason is that of the three final evolutions, I like Hisuian Typhlosion the best both design & typing wise. Ghost & dark types are some of my favorites, right after the dragon type. Plus H-Typhlosion’s bulk is middling at best. Not bulky but not a super glass cannon due to 85 Special defense and a near okay 78 defense. Its defensive typing is alright due to more resistances than weaknesses. Plus ADrive said Samurott is really frail but it’s only frail on the special side. Its HP is above average and its defense is alright. Decidueye has the best overall bulk though but is the slowest.

I'm sticking with Samurott. While the designs REALLY make me want to use Decidueye, the other 5 Pokémon I want to use in my party work best with Hisuian Samurott.

As a Typhosion lover ill always choose him but I really wish they did better to make him look more "ghostly" and mischeavous rather than chill. Design wise it would also have been cool if his back hair lit up with a ghostly blue flame with embers coming off it. Sigh oh well

Idk if you know this based off that last comment buut, his flames are very much ghostly and are out all the time in battle. Maybe i misinterpreted but he has these pretty wild magenta flames and it looks super cool imo.

@@pokaay3163 yes I know he still have flames and they look cool but what I meant is that his overall countenance/personality doesnt give off a "ghostly" feel like gengar, chandelure etc so I just think the designers could have done a little more as flames aside I dont get why he had to be a Ghost. They could/should have even given him Levitate as his hidden ability. But it is what it is

I’ve been a huge fan of the Rowlet line since it released in gen 7, so immediately I have a huge bias. I am not the biggest fan of the new Decidueye form, but that’s mostly because I was hoping for a psychic type form, but the new form really grew on me. I’m on team Rowlet.

This game has a ton of awesome Pokemon to choose from, but my goal is to try and stay completely with the new additions. Surprisingly, I'm REALLY torn on my starter choice! I'm a HUGE Rowlet/Decidueye fan, and I do like the new regional variant a lot. But Hisuian Typhlosion is SO COOL!! Plus I'm a sucker for Ghost Types (see: Decidueye). In the end, I think I'm gonna go with Cyndaquil for this one, though I'm definitely gonna miss my round owl boi...

I do want cyndaquill. I still haven’t changed my mind on that. I will have to accommodate this new information but I really want it. I also am dedicated to getting that Lilligant and the new pairing seems to be good for going against this one. I also definitely want Zoroark for my team. I’m open to some flexibility on the rest of my team but I really want to be able to work with at least these three. I’m also just a huge sucker for ghost types so there is a high chance I’ll be getting one of my old favorites, Froslass, if I can. How much I use it will end up depending on what the game asks of me and how well it suits my team at that time. I’m looking forward to seeing what my final team looks like. I fully expect to have to shift around my team regularly enough to get through everything. That’s probably the part I’m most looking forward too as it sounds like I’ll have a lot of flexibility to just enjoy the scenery, something I’m a huge sucker for despite how much others seem to think it’s a silly way to play. But hey, I play for the escapism. I might as well enjoy my “vacation” with some awesome views.

I was planning on going with Rowlett, but that 60 speed's really killing me. I think I'm gonna go Oshawott and pair it with a Hisuian Liligant. They both cover some of the other's weaknesses (Water/Dark resists Psychic, Fire, and Ice while Grass/Fighting resists Grass and Electric). Not to mention Hisuian Liligant's signature set-up move is just insane.

Tbh, I still would’ve picked decidueye if they gave it priority in Mach punch; vacuum wave; or even sucker punch - which covers one of its weaknesses, It would’ve been great on a bulky poke like H-Deci but no luck. Though it should get sucker punch back at least when transferred

Anyway, I'm still going with Cyndaquil. I love the Fire/Ghost combination and I'm glad to see it in a Pokémon I actually want to use (I didn't like Chandelure's design and Alolan Marowak was a huge disappointment for me when I evolved it back at Sun and Moon and realized I wouldn't have access to Shadow Bone until the Elite Four).

For those who are worried No, you won't miss out on all three, you will actually encounter them in special events that will happen commonly if you push through the story. Regardless of that, you also get one of each if you progress through the story enough, just talk to professor laventon and he will ask if you would like the other starters.

I would like to use Samurott or Typhlosion since I’ve never used them before, but I think I would have to go with Decidueye. It would be the only grass type I’d use in the game and it allows me more type diversity with my team. Also for some reason I’ve never liked Typhlosion, it never stood out to me and not a big fan of its look( original and Hisuian form)

So I've decided after watching your video I'm choosing Smuarott. Decidueye looks fun to play and combo with but that 4x weakness typing is much to be desired. What i noticed is that this really does kinda relate to the Kalos starter`s final evolution type trio, being Grass/FIghting, Fire/Psychic, and Water/Dark, but instead replaced the Psychic type with the ghost type, but also fall into the same Pokemon type mechanic as SM-USUM Fairy being nuteral to ghost, where ghost does nuteral damage to fighting, the only difference about it though is that FIghting does nothing to Ghost

After extensive playing: Rowlet is the best starter. By far. Hisuian Decidueye has acces to flying, grass and fighting moves. Which gives him super effectiveness against 80% of the game. Additionally Triple Arrow is potentially the best move in the game. Using it in agile mode does damage, debuffs the opponent, buffs yourself and usually gives you an instant follow-up attack (e.g. grass blade = always crit). Which does such massive damage that it will even kill Alphas several levels above you. Samurott's Types are simply not that effective. There aren't that many fire monsters and a LOT of water monsters. Typhlosion is awesome but super situational, since you have to fear every minor monster with Bite attack and water & rock types are very very common. He is a terrible carry/front runner, but a powerhouse if matched up correctly

Also! Wanted to point out, I believe Typhlosion's Infernal Parade itself is able to cause Burns. So it's sort of like Hex + Will-o'-Wisp in one (though with a chance, not guaranteed Burn).

Nice to hear Samurott is good as I was considering going for Oshawott. Dark is good defensively with not many weaknesses so Water/Dark should be a good match I think. Dark's immunity to Psychic will probably help with Samurott's low Special Defense too. Thanks for doing this breakdown! It is pretty helpful actually!
