They're incredible in both ways. Personally one of my favorite live bands. Saw them in a record store during the alchemy index tour for a signing and they took time to talk to everyone in the line of probably 100 instead of resting before that night's show. Full eye contact and sincere questions for every fan. Show was amazing too, as always.

Idk man at the time they put their first two albums out it seemed like, cool, but nothing to stand out from the pack? Like at that time that style was sooo fucking flooded and it was really a time where you kinda needed to have that big catchy single type song to get people in the door to the deeper cuts and they didnt really seem to have that? They didnt really start blowing up till their later albums I dont think. But I was never heaps into them just offering a PoV of how that band seemed at the time aside from their music

I think you were right that War all the Time was the big Thursday song. Understanding in a car crash was the album or two before and I don’t think they, or the scene, had the traction yet. Hands down from dashboard was on the so impossible ep. Great song. I think that one is up your alley with lyrics like “hands down this is the best day I can ever remember”. It’s got that cute factor to it.

Their first 2 albums (Full Collapse and War All the Time) are definitely their biggest/most remembered albums. I think Understanding in a Car Crash has to be their biggest song but maybe that's just my nostalgia kicking in haha. I hadn't heard of Thursday till "Counting 5-4-3-2-1" and maybe they were getting more mainstream exposure at that time but looking back the later albums aren't as fondly remembered I don't think.

As a big Alexisonfire fan who can think critically and respect opinions, I think a lot of it comes down to nostalgia. For Canadians of a certain age, like myself who was in the 10-14 years old range around 2004 when they first blew up and got played on MuchMusic (essentially CDN mtv), they would have been the first exposure to that kind of music and kicked off a lifelong enjoyment of post hardcore and related genres. I also think Canadian musicians have the odds stacked against them so we have some pride in seeing one of our own see success.

I wonder if the bands who have a relatively small, but very loyal following, are good live bands. Deja Entendu is my favourite Brand New album, and the only one I would probably listen to now. I saw them live once in the 2010s, and for some reason they decided to play that album in its entirety, and they were good live. As I went on my own I started talking to a guy standing near me, who admitted he had seen them dozens of times, which I found surprising since they'd only released 4 albums at the time.

Hands Down might be the best Dashboard song ever Finn, you should listen. As a Canadian I can confirm the rules for content, hence why I don’t even bother turning on the radio. Alexisonfire put out an album in the early 2000’s called “Watch Out!” that is easily their best (with great production) and worth listening to. The rest of their output is mid. Thrice are good musicians, but are also the most fucking overly-serious band ever (think Audioslave when they’re all done horsing around and having a good time) and as a result take away a lot of the fun that comes with listening to their records (their live show is pretty good though). I forgot about Circa Survive! Thanks for the reminder and keep up the great work👍.

I guessed that Senses Fail was gonna be lower but had more depth in terms of number of songs people are listening to. Once you get past Saying Sorry the numbers for Hawthorne completely fall off. Baseball mega-star Bryce Harper was asked what band living or dead he wants to see live and he said Hawthorne Heights. I'd guess it's super regional but in my area Bayside crossed over to a lot of people who weren't really into the emo music scene. That being said I also grew up like two miles from Bayside Queens where they're from.
