Interesting. My Mother was very narcissistic. I have once been diagnosed with OCPD. I think my perfectionism comes from a need to feel safe. I was never safe with my mother.

Similarities between the two disorders symptoms: Superciliousness Lack of empathy Lack of generosity Condescending attitude Commitment to perfectionism NPD believe they are perfect Ocpd think they are not good enough Both disorders don’t seek treatment personally s are referred by family or friends Both are productive at work

I take issue with categorizing OCPD as perfectionists, organized, and productive. It seems to enable the negative traits of the disorder as positive traits. I have a manager with heavy traits of OCPD and some Narcissism. While he works 24/7 and tries to push others to do the same, his efforts are counter-productive to value creation. His perfectionism is internally biased to self-soothe, not externally correlated to value or productivity to those around him or seeking the results of his labor. Being organized is also somewhat fictional. Yes, he likes to move gear around and put everything in little boxes and bags, but it happens at the expense of functional organization. Where once a team of people created a collective organization that all could follow and utilize, the OCPD manager ritually reorganizes things to where no one knows where anything is, and he has destroyed decades of other people's workflow and routine. Let's not ignore the OBSESSIVE and COMPULSIVE and DISORDER of their personality traits. Having low empathy and high demand for interpersonal control over others is abusive.

I think it is the extreme need for control with both.

I am OCPD and my father is NPD. I think Thanks to your Video i figured out what similarities and differences we have But i have empathy. My OCPD is more of a fear Obsession which is admit i seek Perfection because of fear. I know i am not Perfect but i wish to be because i am Scared of doing mistakes. And yeah i hate myself for it but i always believe i am never good enough. I am obsessed with this unrealistic perfect state. Without it, i See myself as unable to truly live properly. I did seek Therapy After i Discovered how it tortures my brain. I am still at the therapist. When it comes to emoathy, i choose. Narcisists show no emoathy in general but OCPD's only Select a very special type of People for example i Empathize with People who are very polite and who have a strong sense of order and Justice Meanwhile People who are Breaking Rules and order because of their freedom Anger me. Also OCPD can put people down but difference is an OCPD puts himself down and if he criticize others he criticizes himself too meanwhile narcissists only critizice others but not themselves. Which is why with an OCPD you can still reason and Talk with but narcisists are more difficult. When I Talk to my father it is extremely difficult because he is a narcisist

It's a topic that deserves way more attention, as people will look for an appropriate approach of the matter, especially in the workplace, or for personnal relationships. I had a coworker in management position who very much matches the criterias. It is very confusing as she behaved as someone very narcissistic ( very upset at criticism and hard to manage when she failed at something ), while also clearly not obsessed to look perfect and seeking feedbacks and validation, and could apply changes and show regrets on past behaviors, if done correctly. A person labelled as a narcissist is basically done with at the workplace while I believe it's much more possible to work with someone with OCPD, because that person will try to achieve something the best way possible, and from my experience, it's possible to put goals that basically includes being less narcissistic, by rewarding positive behaviors, and it will work, at least to some extent. The obsession for rules isn't something that can be " switched off " and it is also how this personnality can fit well in some roles and be a disaster in others. If something needs to change, the rules have to change first. But overall, the biggest difference with a narc is that I haven't spot intentions to harm or dominate others. She was far more prone to feel anxious and make desperate efforts to connect with people, often ending up goofy or too strict and not natural, at least that's something one can work with. Knowing this is important to connect with that person, and give her space and validation when she does her best to fit in. Instead of blaming the person for being " weird ". There's nothing easy about our daily social interactions.

I believe my mother has both OCPD and covert NPD comorbidity. I also believe my father has traits of overt NPD. My childhood was pure chaos at times and so much pressure was put on me for no reason. I have been diagnosed as having CPTSD and I am completely stuck in survival mode at 42 years old with nothing. . If you have these conditions and you are parent, please seek help. Your children pay the price in every way if you don’t.

Unfortunately, I managed to find a person that had BOTH of these disorders. Card carrying, and he could barely handle recieving the diagnoses. So much so that he blew through three well respected Psychiatrists until he finally collapsed. It was brutal to deal with, and I don't ever want to see him or deal with either problem ever again.

I see a common thread among people with OCD and people who have experienced Narcissistic Abuse. What's even more fascinating, is that I actually dated a Narcissist who had OCD. I really think we should look into this more thoroughly. People with OCD / Anxiety Disorders, could be more primed for a Narcissist relationship (Supply). Just interesting how the symptoms of both OCD and Narcissistic Abuse proclivities are very similar. Hence: the doubting, uncertainty, anxiety, people pleasing, etc. People who experience OCD (especially pure O) is almost like having a narcissistic parent (in a sense).

Great vid! I wonder if another way to distinguish would be in how NPD tends to be very predatory (whether benignly or more maliciously), and OCD seems to be very self-indulgent focused.

After digging into this subject for almost 5 years now, I think that the lines are pretty blurry. it's nice to have a category or label so you can do something with it, but at the end of the day, I would bet a ton of people who have a PD are comorbid.

I would love if you could make a video that tied the links between OCPD, NPD and ASPD. Please and thank you. Particularly, if OCPD has to do with fear, and ASPD is somewhat fearless, how can both share comorbidity?

Oh, Damn! XD Now I have this as well? I mean, I've always been pretty serious about doing a ridiculously clean job and look down on those who just throw things together. I'll spend good money on myself, but it's usually on big things. Maybe I'll ask about this disorder too.

I know a hardcore narcissist who is a very successful drug dealer and who works every day to hide who they really are he has been in and out of relationships because of the amount of money he has attracts a lot of enabler’s and flying monkeys and even though he has been caught for being a criminal who destroys alot of peoples life he still lies and has justification for what he got caught he is extremely vain and really temperamental to the point he pulls weapons out to demonstrate his craziness and his willingness to commit great bodily harm is unreal and to think this person has kids wow how will they turn out???

I have diagnosed with OCPD and ADHD. We do tend to be perfectionist but as the doctor said the root of our behavior is different from people with NPD. I think most of you don't understand exactly whats OCPD, and it would be nice if the doctor grande make a video about it.

THANKS. Let's see if I can personify these two characters. The former is my dad and the latter my mom. 😉😂😆 They are the last of the Mohicans not to have been booted out of my 'Kingdom of Peace INSIDE and Harmony OUTSIDE'. That said, given they are still abusive and do not even realise to have in front of each other an abusive person, my strategy with them is: to keep them in check as the male chicken keeps in check the female ones in the farm. 😂😆😉 Removing parents altogether would probably undermine that very PACT made at a very early age when I and my brother swapped roles with our HIGHLY DEFECTIVE parents and over time AMAZINGLY we seemed to have forgotten about it.

Dr. Grande, I believe fixation is the word instead of obsession that we want to understand. There is a guy who is fixated on me. Stalker-type character who only wants to be in area where ever I am. He's a dreamer, fantasizes. What is his problem. He is shy of me, but not of others. Lacks confidence. Creepy? Scarry. What to do about this.
