@jholden02 ай бұрын
@einnAnnie Although, I don't believe that adding congressional districts based on population growth is the driving force behind allowing anyone to enter the country illegally, it would be extremely advantagous to the Democratic party. Most elections over the past few decades have come down to very few electoral votes. I think the primary reason for this policy was to do the same thing that Trump did when he took office. To undo all of the major policy changes that Trump had campaigned on. Trump immediately tried to negate all of the progress Obama made during his tenure. If you want to see what a sudden uncontrollable population increase does to a country, you only have to look North to Canada and what effect it has had on the cost of housing, and the cost of living for all of its citizens.

And let’s say we grant all of these illegal immigrants citizenship as the democrats want to do, if your the party that’s been advocating on your behalf to become citizens and they’ve been in control of where to send them around the country, it’s not hard to see how drastically that would change outcomes of elections, in a country that’s fairly evenly split especially the national vote for presidential elections, this almost guarantees a democrat president every year, throw in these congressional districts being added, it’s an artificial makeover to the voter base, and political power shifted solely towards democrats

So you make the heat wrenching decision to leave your family, friends and everything you know behind to pursue the POSSIBILITY (not even a guarantee) of a better life for you and your family. So you risk your life to come through illegally (people die at the border all the time) and make it through. Now you take low paying labor intensive jobs to make money to send back home to support your family who all think you’re living the dream but in actuality you’re living in a one room rental working 10 hrs per day and also live with the fear that at any moment you could get caught by immigration and sent back home. The fear doesn’t even come from you not being able to live here anymore, the fear comes from you no longer being able to provide your family the better life style they’re living back home if you were to get deported. This my friend is when people lack empathy it’s because some politician has gotten you to view immigrants as not being real people. First, there’s not enough illegal immigrants completing a census form every ten years to vastly change congressional districts, that argument in theory is true, but it’s not reality. Finally, republicans change congressional maps through their gerrymandering efforts for every election cycle, that is a FACT vs their 10-year hypothetical census count!

Because the system worked before and still works. Like the statistics on the chances someone was able to vote without registration in the presidential election was literally in three digits, which is extremely small when about 150+ million people voted. Trump created mistrust in the voting system so he can win, which is why Trump claimed voter fraud in 2016, 2020, and 2024. Despite him winning in 2016 and 2024.
@AliceBowie2 ай бұрын
@allenliu8820 There's definitely weird things that make it easier to believe that there might be fraud that they should address if they don't want people to take voter fraud claims seriously. Most states count their votes completely by a few hours after the polls close. But then the swing states are counting all night and morning. And California and Alaska take a week. Then there's computerized voting machines, which take longer to count, have errors every election, and don't leave paper records. Then there's a few states that always have a massive jump in votes for democrats at 3am from mail in ballots. It happened in 2024, too, in Wisconsin and New Mexico, just not enough for Trump to lose. In 2020, they explained it as democrats using mail in ballots more than Republicans, but in this election, mail in ballots were split evenly. But there was still that 3am spike for democrats. Also, Democrats used to claim election fraud when they lost, too. They complained about voting machines in 2000. If there's an explanation, why deflect from answering?

I came here for school, then worked, then got green card, like 100s of thousands of people every year. And I don't even hate my home country at all or had any issue back home so that I had to seek asylum. It's incredibly dishonest to frame it so dramatically, ignoring 100s of thousands of people getting in legitimately every year. To me the experience was simple: It's just that I got to do what I needed to do, and I contributed to the American society and I was given a chance after stated my reasons, rightfully so. I didn't even have to get my green card through marriage with my American spouse. If you have legitimate reasons to be here, aka you are a prospect of becoming a contributing member of this society, you have more than enough ways to get in. However we design this process with empathy and intelligence, it should probably be a bit harder than just turning up at the border.

As a resident of the borderlands along the Mexican border in the mountains of the Sonoran Desert, the situation here is insane in the extreme. Those of living here and the Border Patrol are the meat in this sandwich. The unwillingness of the Congress to institute a cogent immigration AND border policy so as to use scapegoating as a political whip has resulted in continuing deaths along our border; an unprecedented number of migrants swarming the border; the proliferation of vigilante militia violence in a miasma of fear-based hate against migrants. Our current situation is imbecilic and absurd in the extreme. The bill that Trump harpooned would have begun to institute the controls needed. What had been primarily Mexican and Central American migrants has now become a potpourri of Asians (primarily Chinese and Indians), South Africans and others who cross the line, sit down and await arrest to claim asylum. The libertarian last interviewed and the man preceding him presented the most cogent descriptions of the situation I have heard. Sadly, with the election of Trump whose modus is fear-mongering and to feed nativist paranoia, the pending wholesale deportations are an economic disaster waiting to happen. Until rational players in the Congress establish proper reforms and funding for addition of asylum judges to close the time gap on adjudicating asylum cases; for detention and deportation of those not qualifying; and for institution of reasonable legal means of migration reform making legal immigration available, we will have nothing but greater human tragedies along the border.

The greatest cause for these mass migrations is the policy combined with the fact our billion-dollar-funded non-profit organizations which we funded for the purpose of helping migrants get on their foot in another country (example Venezuelans fleeing to Colombia) are not truly accessible to those migrants who fled. They may hand out food at an event. But as far as migrants being able to contact them, and seek their help to find work, and helping connect them with affordable rent and open a bank account in new country. All of this seems simple enough but is actually insanely harder than it really is and I know for this from experience having been involved with humanitarian outreach for years. But this is what news does not ever cover. This is also what politicians never seek to resolve. So all I can do is try to raise funds to do what they aren't doing even though we've already given by tax dollars about just shy of 1 billion to these foreign aide groups for latin countries and for migrants fleeing to neighboring countries. Meanwhile we send billions to Ukraine and nearly a trillion in total to Ukraine and Israel if not more. We need to focus more on this continent which does more for us than those countries outside of this continent of the Americas.

Over regulated, super sized governments that destroy the ability for entrepreneurs to even exist, to fire bad workers and hire good ones, and to spend billions of more dollars on garbage that provides no benifit to their people. Socialism is a plague that destroys every sector of society from agriculture, to construction, to education. The experts, the media and the professional politicians must keep it unsolvable, otherwise they will lose their jobs, so, they abandoned common sense. The Immigration issue is not that complicated. We are not the 13 colonies, we are a nation-state, and when we lose control of the border, we are no longer a nation. - If the demographics shows our nation is aging, work on incentives to create more babies. - If we need more farm workers, increase the quota for work permits. - If we need more engineers, increase the quota for H-1B visas. - If Americans become too lazy to work, work on education. - If Americans work force has lost the skill sets for hi tech jobs, work on training programs. - If Democrats and Republicans use brainwashing techniques to alter our attitude toward immigrants, tell them to stop. - If our government feeds us with false information, demand the truth. I am an immigrant waited for 10 years for my green card in my old country so that I can come here legally. I don’t regret for waiting. Americans born on america with american parents is the only people we should be caring for first and foremost. Our own proverbial kicking the can down the road has run out of road, so now we must have a complete reform and a serious effort to fix this problem, not to make a knee-jerk reaction to kick everyone out but instead, look at what is achievable. So, if you are a citizen and you want to bring your mom, it is about 18ish months from start to finish. But your brother? That's close to 25 years. Work visas depend on any factors, not just what type of job.And work visas don't contemplate permanent immigration. They are to come here and work for a time,but some offer paths to permanent immigration. There are some work visas that are pretty quick to get - just a few months - but others take years. Theyre defining basic concepts that everyone can find out without much border experience. They spent way too much time on the vid. For monetization purposes. The issues are simple but we choose to ignore them: our population growth rate is flat, our kids are having dogs and cats as kids and not having real kids, so WE NEED migrants to keep up with meeting our economic growth goals. As a former CBP employee I can atest that the real issue is that congress has kept from reforming the immigration processes in place to really be able to select the best part of the candidates and shut the unskilled ones or ones with dirty backgrounds, but for this to happen, the rest of tue world has to have a good background system in place first, and here is where the funds should go to as intl aid. Prior to September 11, 2001 there was NO PHYSICAL BARRIER at all. . There were towns that literally straddled the border and people walked back & forth.... commerce was built in these areas, based on this openness. . Mr Bensman: I do immigration all day every day as well. It is also my job. And sir, you are wrong. You are are also one of those people who fails to understand immigration policy. People are not being "admitted" at the border. A person of your education and experience should now better than to say such a thing. See 8 USC §1101 13A which defines admission- it requires a lawful entry. Therefore, CBP is not "accepting and admitting eveyone" like you allege at min 6 to report to ICE later. The word 'admission" requires a lawful entry sunject to inspection. Border patrol serves Notices to Appear in Immigration Court for those who entered to appear and answer to charges of unlawful entry. Words matter. You are a journalist. Use them correctly. The point of this rant is to demonstrate that no one, no matter how much of an expert the individual purports to be - knows what they are talking about with regard to immigration, particularly when, as here, the speaker provides a lot general descriptions and personal anecdotes. It is just not the case that everyone who gets here gets in. Go do some interviews in detention.

A law can't be quashed by executive order. If republicans pass a law, then it will be hard for new government to quash it. President Trump issued many directives through executive order like other presidents. Signing law requires bringing something which acceptable to majority. This time President Trump came with strong legislative support so I think things may be different this time. Let's see.

Im a nurse (Bachelors) and I was literally replaced last year by filipino nurses…who paid 10% of what I paid for school and have no student loans….My hospital brought them in by the hundreds postpandemic and now theres no overtime, raises, extra pay/benefits at all! So I am now completely antiimmigrant and will prob remain so the rest of my life…(and Im a democrat) but Im glad Trump won. Remember. - Rome fell partially from inside, partially from outside. And if you dont like ur own country - then fix it! Oh, and they dont fit in with our staff, they sit and talk in Tagolog all night to each other, something Ive never seen before with any other nurses. Myself and many other nurses couldnt stand it plus it was unsafe so we left. (The filipino nurses have so much on the line with their jobs, visas, they wont risk it to speak up for safety which is required as a nurse.) Is this the environement you want ur mom taken care of in??

Sounds like you’ve directed your ire in the wrong direction. The problem you describe is a healthcare labor issue more than an immigration problem. Also, how did hospitals “bring in” these Philippine nurses? Was it under their auspices? Because that would need some kind of government approval. There’s a lot of holes in your story for me to believe the problem is the immigration system and not the labor/healthcare system.

Working in healthcare through COVID-19 as a healthcare provider in the ER (nurse practitioner), I had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of nurses. Filipino nurses are some of the best med-surg and ICU nurses I have ever worked with. They are reliable, kind, caring, and efficient. Filipino nursing schools are on par with US programs. Further, the Filipino nurses I had the pleasure of working with are some of the most teamwork oriented nurses I have ever worked with. One phrase you will never hear from a Filipino nurse is "it's not my job". The overwhelming majority of US educated nurses are equally amazing. This country has a nursing shortage. We need all the help we can get. If you lost your job to an equally educated RN with similar experience and you were not terminated for a disciplinary problem, your issue is with your former employer, not a Filipino RN here doing good work. If this is a problem in your area or with your hospital system, I would suggest a phone call with a nursing labor union. You are taking out your anger on the wrong people. Your fight is with corporate America, not good Filipino nurses who choose to speak their native language amongst their friends.
