If you have a coffee in the morning, unprocessed agave, raw honey, organic coconut palm sugar, dark maple syrup are all fine! I do two keto meals a day 18 hour fast, no snacking in between! Drink tea, Zevia, seltzers, water, etc. in between if needed! It works to keep my weight at 160. I’m 72, 5’9”, avid golfer, walk a lot.

sugars are NOT all the same. when I sweeten my meals with either raw unfiltered honey or coconut palm sugar, I don't get a significant post-prandial glucose spike that I'll get when consuming white table sugar. the result is I don't get a sugar high followed by an energy crash.

I don't care for the calories, but my problem with sugar is that it has negative effects on the skin, it ages it and slows down the production of collagen. Fruits don't have enough sugar/ have lots of fiber, so I'm not worried eating fruits. But would be great to add something in bakings that is sweet but not that unhealthy for skin.

As someone with dental issues I notice a significant difference between table sugar vs honey, maple syrup, and coconut sugar. My teeth get more sensitive if I start using regular table sugar as opposed to sugar alternatives. I get even less tooth sensitivity when using sweetener like monk fruit or stevia but I consider those more like a nutrasweet alternative. The Doc is right that sugar is sugar and should be limited in order to have a healthy diet, but I disagree with him implying there is no difference. Based on my anecdotal experience maple syrup, honey, and coconut sugar have less of a negative impact on my teeth compared to table sugar.

I’m always so confused why I have the issues I do. I have added sugar in my coffee for breakfast and an occasional dessert but I’m still at risk of diabetes. My carbohydrates are relatively low, I don’t eat out or drink sodas more than once or twice a month. When I was on ozempic (covered by insurance I’m not rich) I did drop 50 lbs in three months but I ate maybe twice a day or threw up and frequently had migraines or dizziness. It was like gaining a whole new and worse eating disorder. So I have concluded that my calorie intake is low (under 1,000 cal for 5’10 300+ lbs person) my activity level is currently low but was pretty high last year, and through learning more about the gut biome I’ve tried more variety in food and found Mediterranean food to be the easiest on my stomach. I’m going to be starting ftm hrt soon and I’ve read it can cause appetite changes along with muscle and fat redistribution so maybe I’ll see some progress but nothing makes sense to me. Why are Homosapians so infinitely complex and weird

How does maple syrup compare to the other sugars you mentioned?
@ericalmeda3736 Жыл бұрын
There is no "healthy" form of Sugar. All types of sugar raise Insulin levels which in term makes you prone to weight gain and diabetes. The only way to lessen (take note: LESSEN) the bad effects of sugar in our diet is if the sugar source you consume comes with fiber along with it. Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that dissolves very slowly so it wont spike your insulin levels that much as compared to eating foods high in the glycemic index such as bread, pasta and pastries. We're talking fruits and vegetables here; more on the vegetables and lesser on the fruits since fruits have a higher sugar content than vegetables.

He walked to farm about 2 miles ... he's retired now, 80 years is still healthy as horse.... If you just drink coffee and lounging all day.... welll that's bad.
